1. I've only seen our old friends the resonator and Warwick mini bass for weeks now. Perhaps Thomann are just awaiting a new container load of Harley Bentons?
2. I've just bought a pedal from Pete. Great communications, prompt dispatch and delivery, and the pedal was well packed and mint as described. It's the first time I've bought something on Basschat and Pete has set a high standard - I'm impressed! Thanks!
3. Another Pandora PX4D user here. There is an aux in which you can plug your phone etc. into for playing along with songs. It's a great little unt for practising. It seems to have been superseded by the Pandora Mini.
4.
I would go for an active Thunder 2 or 3 if I were you. I had a fretless Thunder 2A back in the day and it was great, a few years after I sold it I bought a Thunder 1 and it was awful - really cheap and nasty.
The Thunder I cheap and nasty? Compared to the 2 & 3 has a bolt on neck, lighter bridge, and just one pickup, but it's still a great bass and miles better than most of the genuinely cheap and nasty alternatives available at the time.
5. I thought her old stuff was impressive but this new album is amazing
6. A reversed P makes a lot of sense. I read somewhere that one of the problems with first Precision was that the amplifiers of the day weren't really up to the job, and would regularly blow their speakers. When redesigning it one of Leo Fender's aims was to reduce the attack of the plucked notes to minimise this, and placing the bass side of the split P pickup nearer the neck helped. Which means the pickup configuration is compromised because of technical limitations which haven't applied for about 50 years.
7. I'm pretty sure I read that Linda bought it for him
8. An app can be withdrawn from the App Store by the publisher, at which point you can't re-download it, despite previously purchasing it. However it won't just disappear from your device, and if you backed it up to a computer you can reinstall from there.
9.
I use a Planet Waves mini one. It's tiny and very unobtrusive, tracks well even on the low B. It's small but can still be seen easily enough. Also because it's small I can just leave it attached, even while the bass is in its bag being transported.
+1. These are great little tuners
10. Speaking as a long term Jazz player, I recently bought an American Standard Precision, and I really like the Modern C neck on that. So I imagine the Slim C would be easy to get on with.
11. I have the Harley Benton PB Shorty, which is pretty close to what you are wanting, though rosewood and cheap and cheerful. I find it annoyingly neck heavy - something to bear in mind when speccing a custom. Lightweight tuners would help.
12. Almost certainly it's by design. The Tone Hammer 500 is the same
13. Also very handy for experimenting with effect settings. Just stick the looper at the front of the effect chain, record something suitable and mess around with your pedals at leisure.
14. I would have said my Jazz didn't have the classic dead spot, as I've never noticed it during ordinary playing. However, running it though a Boss OC-2 recently revealed it; the octave tracking wouldn't sustain as long around the 5th fret on the G as it would elsewhere on the fretboard.
15. Don't get your hopes up for a lefty Moollon. I emailed them recently and they replied, very politely and reasonably, explaining why they don't do left handers and have no plans to do so!
16.
There's a lefty HB Acoustic bass in black there at the minute - £43.63
That's been there for months, along with the resonator and the toy Warwick. I'd buy it if I didn't already have a cheapo acoustic bass.
17.
Does anyone have any experience of buying a bass from Thomann? Juat want to know what they're like for shipping and make sure they don't send a guitar that's bashed up from bad packing and postage.
I've bought several basses from them. Their packaging is excellent. They did send a duff Fender Jazz once (scratched, misaligned nut slots, etc) but were very responsive when I complained and the replacement was perfect.
18. The Fender Claw bridge from the late 70s
19.
Does anyone store their basses in the attic?
I do. Never had a problem. My Wal quietly appreciated up there for years; now it's out and being played again with no ill effects.
20.
ian masters from the pale saints. not that i'd imagine anyone has heard of him, or the brilliant pale saints, which is a shame.
Saw them in 1989 supporting Firehose, great gig. I remember he was playing a Westone Thunder 1A just like the one I had.
21. I have a five string Progressive and I'd never noticed the foil before, but I've just had a look and its there. Less noticeable on a 5 as the bridge sections are much closer together.
22.
Is that the MIM version? IME the routing on the Japanese ones is immaculate and the bass looks great without a scratchplate...
My Mexican Jazz had this hole, yes. Meanwhile the US Standard model has an open rout from the neck pickup down to the controls...doh!
23.
I said its NOT " actually 32 scale " ... but to me it feels like more slight instrument .. than say a fender type bass
The string spacing is quite a bit tighter than a Fender, isn't it?
24. Great track. Very interested to hear the album. He's got some excellent musicians playing on it: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-34866235
25. Got some on my jazz. I'm hard pressed to notice any difference from my normal EXL165s to be honest. No silks.
