  1. I like playing this one live, despite not liking the original particularly. Drop D with a Hipshot extender (agree with previous posters, they are excellent and, set up correctly, the tuning is rock solid). Another thing to enjoy is that there's no bass in the first verse, so you get to come in for the chorus with a neat fill.
  2. I have the 6 string bass (https://www.revelationguitars.co.uk/guitar/rjt-60-b/) and for the money it is superb. Build quality, finish and setup all great. There was one small flaw in the paint but for around £200 I wasn't too concerned.
  3. Does anyone know how heavy these are?
  4. I assume you know that you don't want to go down the Hipshot Bass Extender route? I use one for exactly this scenario and I love it.
  5. According to this article TOP have replaced him (for touring at least) due to repeated health problems: https://www.bassplayer.com/artists/rocco
  6. Great show. However, I didn't realise they had "retired" Rocco
  7. I’d agree the Fender Rumble 500 is a good bet. A friend has one and it sounds great.
  8. Agreed. My Sleeve is going strong after three years. It has a cavernous pocket too.
  9. I think your batteries are connected in series to provide 18v to both the active circuit and pickups, in which case they will run down at the same rate.
  10. The Elbow tribute band, derrière (caught by the censor!)
  11. There was a post on Reddit from someone claiming to work at a large US dealer, stating that about half of their consignment of Player series guitars had problems (badly cut nuts, sharp fret ends, dodgy pots). However, it has since been deleted, and other online reports are positive. I’m pretty sure I will get one of these, but I want to see one in a shop to get an idea of how they compare to the USA models.
  12. It's Abe Laboriel on the recording. Louis Johnson is on the Rise LP but not the title track: https://www.mixonline.com/recording/classic-track-rise-herb-alpert-426219
  13. These look great. I keep swapping between flats and rounds on my USA Precision, so a second one is very tempting.
  14. Drums, bass, guitar, keys? You’ve gotta do a few Meters tunes
  15. Very interesting post... my deko bass uke is languishing in the attic as I never got on with the strings. I’ll have to give them a go. It’s this set, is it? https://www.thomann.de/gb/pyramid_509.200_bass_ukulele_set.htm
  16. Just a badly matched 3 piece body, common for Fenders of that era. Tidy bass otherwise and rare to find with the original case and bits and pieces.
  17. The latest Fender American Pros have reverse audio pots, at last.
  18. Ah, of course. That’s what I get for copying the caption.
  19. Came across this picture of Onnie McIntyre and Alan Gorrie of AWB both on bass: I’m only really familiar with their hits. Does anyone know what track they might be playing?
  20. For reference, that's an old one. The quick way to tell is that the newer ones just have "DC" at the top, rather than "DC IN".
  21. New Fender left handers are fairly easy to find nowadays, especially if you are happy to mail order. If you want a Jazz there are Squier, Mexican or USA models depending on your budget. There’s only a USA Precision though. For a used one, you just need to keep an eye on this place, eBay, Gumtree etc. And go into all the music stores you come across on your travels just in case there’s a neglected lefty that you can make an offer on.
  22. I find the fan noise of my TH500 too irritating for low volume practise.
  23. Jim Stinnett’s Real Bass Lessons are worth a look
