Wow they are all coming out now, noticed yours has the pro2E jack casting, does it have the earth lift flip switch on it ? is it also french polished ?
It doesn't have the switches. I guess they just were just using up remaining parts when they built it. I think it's probably french polished. Certainly doesn't look lacquered.

Interesting reading regarding the "crossover" era. Here's my example, PB1805, which has a solid body of, I think, mahogany, and inlaid stripes on the front and back. I've never seen another Wal quite like it

What was the first bass you had GAS for?
pineweasel replied to ianrendall's topic in General Discussion
A white Rickenbacker lefty which was in the window of the Sound Centre, Cardiff for most of 1980, but well beyond my means. I often wonder where it ended up. -
G&L L2000E, what a great bass why does no one know about them ?
pineweasel replied to funkgod's topic in General Discussion
I think G&L basses are generally under rated. Leo himself is quoted as saying about G&L's ..."among the best I have ever made.." or words to that effect.
The best he's ever made, in fact! http://file.vintageadbrowser.com/xh7daa5vmmrj2j.jpg -
I've just bought a cab from Dave. Great communications, the cab was well packed and despatched promptly, and was exactly as described. A pleasure to do business with - many thanks!

Another Fender Japan option is the PB70 model, if you can find one. 40mm nut, with a '184R' neck, which is 7.25". I used to have one and it was a great Precision.

The 1959 Fender Jazz prototype had 5 pole pickups: http://www2.fender.com/experience/guitarchive/the-jazz-bass-guitar-a-history-and-appreciation/ and more recently, their Roscoe Beck bass had 5 pole humbuckers. Of course they never made a lefty of that one either.

He's great. "Red" and the UK live album "Night After Night" were big influences when I started. Thanks to the internet I heard Mogul Thrash a few years ago - well worth seeking out. And more recently this turned up - the dream power trio that never was: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aI9t9KdVNJE
The design of a Wal neck is pretty standard across all models. Multi laminate... Rock Maple, Mahogany, Rock Maple, Rock Maple, Mahogany, Rock Maple. Topped off with a rosewood board or ebony for fretless.
They used hornbeam for the central core for many years. I read that it was dropped because it was too stiff, curiously!

I think the B3 is well designed and really easy to program compared to any other multi effect I've tried. I used to connect mine to the computer sometimes but I certainly didn't consider it necessary to use it effectively.

Get in touch with Hipshot. I emailed them with a similar query recently and they were very helpful.

W.T. Actual F.....is this??????

My Shergold Marathon has a stereo output which works the same way. Of course I never use it as it has a sensible mono output too. -
Anyone know Shriekback and how to get this bass tone?
pineweasel replied to Barking Spiders's topic in General Discussion
Great band. I bought my first bass in 1983 (the obligatory Westone Thunder 1-A) and learnt to play all Dave Allen's stuff from Shriekback and the Gang of Four. I saw them live a few times too. He always played a Stingray. On My Spine, it sounds like he's using a flanger to me. -
I play mostly 60s - 90s music and I don't want to go too modern.
The Aguilar Tone Hammer has to be worth a try. I like mine. Pair it with a lightweight cab or two for portable old school tones.

That looks like the hydrid guitar played by Charlie Hunter. 3 bass strings, 5 guitar. Most probably a prototype as it says. Here's the current model: http://www.novaxguit.../sales/ch8.html

Roqsolid surely do one? http://roqsolid.co.uk

I like to keep things minimal so have a lightweight cab with cover and TH500 amp in its padded bag, plus the bass and everything else in a gig bag. I recently got a Mono Bass Sleeve, mainly for its huge front pocket, into which I can easily fit 3 or 4 pedals plus leads, tuner, etc.

This sort of thing is down to a minority who choose to ignore the requests to "love the farm, leave no trace". This is a message you see time and time again, from buying your ticket, to the programme, to the screens between acts. It's not a hard thing to grasp and most attendees do their best. Unfortunately, when you can pop into Halfords on your way and get a 4 person "camping pack" for 90 quid, the temptation to just dump it at the end will be there for some.

I fitted one of these to my Fender Jazz recently, as I'm doing a few tunes that use drop D. Overall I'm pretty pleased with it. Installation is easy, setting up and getting the tuning adjustment spot on took a while but now it's completely solid. The only downside for me was that I can't use my wall hanger as the detuning lever gets in the way. I did a gig on the weekend using a different bass and certainly missed it. Mine's also a left handed one; make sure you order the right model. I got it from Bass Direct, and it took about a month as it had to be ordered specially.

I got back yesterday from what was my 9th Glastonbury so it was interesting to read this thread. I had a great time as ever, but the mud did make getting around the site much slower, so I saw less music than I hoped to. Some observations: - the loos were better than ever, I reckon. The plastic portaloos are mostly replaced by composting toilets and of course there are the famous long drops, which I noticed were being cleaned more regularly - the sound was really impressive at every stage I went to this year, even the Acoustic tent, which I've often found quite poor in the past. Modern PAs are amazing. - the "37000 staff" figure is easy to believe when you realise the scale of the event. It's so much more than the 5 or 6 big stages you see on TV. It's like a medium sized town with streets lined with bars, cafes and shops and a venue on every corner. Personal highlights for me were Floating Points at the Park, Roisin Murphy, and Kamasi Washington at West Holts. Washington's bassist Miles Mosley did some killer solos on upright. I also got to headline the Fluffy Rock Cafe stage on Sunday night, which was a brilliant experience. We began playing to a handful of people at 11pm but as the main stages finished the tent completely filled up. We were doing crowd pleasing covers and it was fantastic to have such a great audience dancing and singing along!

I have the lefty maple VM Jazz and it's pretty heavy. Can't tell you how much as I am away from home, but certainly heavier than my alder bodied US Jazz

We do this; the guitarist approximates the part with a slide. Works pretty well.

Future Proof recording interface?
pineweasel replied to Jean-Luc Pickguard's topic in General Discussion
Is it possible that either of your interfaces works with OS X without a driver? I use an ancient Edirol UA25 which only requires drivers for advanced features like 24 bit recording. It works perfectly well as a basic 16 bit interface with OS X's built in Core Audio. -
