2. wife swapping ? surely that should be separate thread
3. I recently bough all 5 chic albums on amazon as a boxset for under 12 quid
4.
I thought meths was surgical spirit with a dye added.
Its actually a pretty nasty chemical called pyridine: "Pyridine is harmful if inhaled, swallowed or absorbed through the skin.[115] Effects of acute pyridine intoxication include dizziness, headache, lack of coordination, nausea, salivation and loss of appetite. They may progress into abdominal pain, pulmonary congestion and unconsciousness.[116] One person died after accidental ingestion of half a cup of pyridine.[22] The lowest known lethal dose (LDLo) for the ingestion of pyridine in humans is 500 mg·kg−1. In high doses pyridine has a narcotic effect and its vapor concentrations of above 3600 ppm pose a health risk.[45] The oral LD50 in rats is 891 mg·kg−1. Pyridine is flammable.
5.
I use a Mackie SRM150 and it is superb. Great little thing.
Me too. Works really well for me although bass is handled by my amp everything else via the mackie
6. Just seen that he's playing cambridge tonight. Bugger I wish id known
7. Oh my that's great thanks Clarky. I cant tell you how much i enjoyed that concert. Even if my luminous glow ring necklace leaked and didn't last six weeks like the bloke said it would if I put it in the freezer. The whole adventure of me and my mate Ian schlepping up to Earls Court on the train from Kent at 15, a quick burger courtesy of the newly launched beef clown restaurant, and then Genesis live with two drummers, lasers and everything. Life has never been better Aah Nostalgia isn't what it used to be
8.
Met up with BCers Molan (Barrie) and Garythebass and saw Steve Hackett at the Apollo. Not only did it bring a huge lump to my throat as he played songs from my first ever gig (Genesis at Earls Court 1977, 13 year-old Clarky) but he played for 2 and three-quarter hours. Bloody hell. What a star. Some nice guests too, best being John Wetton who sang on one track and sounds fantastic still That was a great gig! One happy Clarky
That was my first big gig too! As a 15 year old Lonestar I wish id known about the Steve hackett gig too.
9. School bass. Are you kidding? I wanted to do o level music but as only one other person wanted to we couldn't Music lessons were a balding middle aged bloke trying to engage teenagers in 1975 by playing Shadows albums on the education authority style record player which we could make jump by stamping on the floor when he turned his back to draw a crotchet on the blackboard.
10.
Heat cold cycle on the metal doesnt help make it last any longer either. Back in the day I was into boiling them, but they would become more liable to break than if just left. Since moving over to meths I havent had any issues.
Apart from the blindness, shakes and increasing insanity presumably
11.
Yes - I completely agree with you. After 5 rehearsals we're up to 20 songs and, in my personal opinion, we're a million miles away from playing a local open mic night, let alone a pub gig, let alone a function or a wedding. Maybe I'm expecting too much, too soon - I've been told before that I'm too pessimistic.
I cant think why you're sticking with this it doesn't sound a whole bundle of fun ?
12. Great band great vid and lovely bass playing. Whats not to like? Thanks mike
13.
+1 You seem to be getting rid of the perfect pub outfit, to buy errrrr........ another pub outfit Does not compute????????????
I agree. I had a hartke ha500 With ashdown 4x10 & 115 for ages and switched to a markbass cmd210p combo. I've never felt the need for anything else You current set up sounds great for pubs unless your band is extremely loud. Or your cab is too heavy to cart about.
14. Im sure that its a good read but someone in Penguins marketing dept needs a rocket
15.
Silly love songs is wicked too.Underarted player and can pen a tune or 3 i have been told.
Id.second that with the caveat that he has released some dreadful old sh&te in his time too and not made a really great album since Wings. The band the Beatles could have been
16. Last night at a rehearsal i dropped the height of my wizard thumper in my bitsa p bass about 4mm on the E & A string side. Result is that it sounds great. Even volume across all strings and much tighter and " thumpier?" On the low notes. Im really pleased and not a little surprised at the difference.
17.
A Warwick with a plectrum, don't see that much!
Nor a bassist with a big red halo neither
18. A working setlist of 200 songs ? He's either nuts or has very low standards of quality control or is a musical genius. Suspect the first two but not the latter
19. I use one of these with either spotify, youtube or tux guitar: http://www.pocketrockit.com/Page.php?id=0022s1b
20. A stingray and an edb
21. We do a kind of hybrid tom Jones /prince version. I just slap along with the bass and sometimes snare drums in a fairly sparse manner.
22. 0000 wire wool
23. I went along last night at short notice, my friend and drummer Pete had a spare ticket . While I'm not a big Level 42 fan really I thoroughly enjoyed it. We were downstairs near the front. Never been to the O2 before but like indigo as a venue; very nice Great horn section and drummer too, although to my ears he was a bit low in the mix until the last few songs. I guess all Mark King aficionados know what to expect and having seen a fair degree of vitriol aimed at his style on here I tried to listen with open ears. Had a great night out listening to a cracking band doing their thing. Tight funky and look like they're having a good time. That preceded by asahi extra dry and a wagamama ramen; what's not to like ?
24. Sounds a really nice gig. Sorry I'm a bit too far away but good luck.
25.
If you can afford it and you want it, why would a partner be angry? If you're spending money that should go on food, rent/mortgage or other essentials on music gear then take a good look in the mirror!
I normally say upfront that im thinking of buying a new bass to which Mrs lonestar usually replies "if you think that we can afford it". Thats normally the end of it; i haven't bought any new instruments for ages.... Poor Mike.
