I guess the trends come and go as with all fashion and design but I would wager that the majority of recorded popular music since the 1950's will have and continue to feature a Precision, Jazz or maybe a Stingray providing the bass line

Proggers and-wealthier punks in the 70s had Rics Lots of through neck arias and bare wood finishes in the 80s or silly looking no headstock things All the younger bands on telly since the 90's seem to have old p and jazz basses Soul, jazz and what is now called R'n'B seem to use 5 strings on expensive looking(see 80s) wood. As tubeway army may have said: Are trends eclectic?

Sounds eminently sensible to me although Im not sure that id bother with a jazz pup at the bridge. I have a bitsa sx p bass with a wizard thumper pickup, sadly no longer available, but it does what it says on the box brilliantly. Why not just go for a posh p bass pickup and hardware, I have gotoh 70s tuners on mine

Welcome Anita Lots of Essex basschatters on here and we're mostly friendly and helpful. There is lots of useful links and stuff in theory and technique. If in doubt just ask and someone will know! Great looking bass you have there.

I generaly use fingers but the Best picks that i found i picked up at a show and haven't found since. They were the standard 1 mm tortex blue but with a star shaped hole in the middle which made them really grippy.

Highly recommend stuart clayton's excellent book funk and soul grooves for bass guitar . All the 'nard bass and Nile's guitar parts are in there.

Either would give you lots of volume, especially the Markbass should you ever decide to play with others and you can always turn down at home! Ultimately it's all the fingers though I'm sure that a Ray '34 and flats would get you on the right path, especially a natural/maple one which Im gassing for at the moment with similar motives to you.

I had the pleasure of meeting Marco and his colleagues at a trade show, not long after getting my CMD102 combo a few years ago. I was whisked off the stand to see their new amps and was impressed with their enthusiasm for the products and integrity, as is becoming increasingly apparent on this thread.

I find that getting at least two fingers going,building up the tempo / stamina and getting those pesky 16ths even is the trick.its a great track to practice RH technique
