Bass Player wanted for Session Work (Vegetarian)
lonestar replied to Gweb's topic in Bassists Wanted
Great post in what has been a very funny and entertaining thread. Thanks Gweb. All the very best of luck with your band project and keep hugging those trees. Will your band be featuring a Quorn section ? Apologies if that gags been done already. I was a veget for 12 years ,Mrs Lonestar still is, but i will now eat anything that once lived I've heard the jokes too and find the 'ism bit the worrying thing about a lot of veggies. -
Been listening to a lot of genesis at the moment
lonestar replied to marcus bell's topic in General Discussion
Love genesis from first album to wind an wuthering. Selling England and lamb lies down my favourites. They were the first big band I saw live. Earls court trick of the tail tour I think with Phil Collins and Chester Thompson on drums. Brilliant! -
Just after I bought it new a couple of them, I can't remember which ones, started crackling even after switch cleaner. Other than that It was a great bass. They did have someone else with a similar problem ordered from the distributor and changed them for me without question while I waited in the shop. Maybe it was a dodgy batch.
The pickups ate the SAME in both US and Tribute models. All US made. To say they're "half decent" in the Tribute is just plain wrong.
I did have to change the pots on my old GL2000 tribute as although the pickups were US the rest of the electrics were crappy korean made. The now defunct east coast music where i bought it changed them to us mighty mite ones for me foc.
To be fair, I don't think we can criticise a band that has been going for this long, providing many generations with a 'rock n roll dream'. I don't really listen to the Stones much, but I have a lot of time and respect for them. Ageing rockers? Oh yes, but anyone critising needs to assess what they will be doing at 69/70. Most likely, sat at home commenting on other bands and playing in local bars, (that's if you are lucky!). There will be a time in 10-15 years when the legends won't exist anymore. We won't have big classic bands anymore, just thousands of small NME bands who capture audiences for one album then disappear. That's happened in my lifetime, and I'm only 32. The only 'big' bands who might be going are bands such as REM, Coldplay, Muse, and big pop acts. I'd hesitate to add Kings of Leon into that list as they don't qualify. They were pretty damn brilliant at first but I don't think they will reach that stage. Good on the Stones for still being alive, still rocking out, and still captivating a huge audience. I hope I can be as lucky when I'm their age.
Er i think REM have called it a day
Why would that be..? Nothing to prevent posting here ad infinitum (although I can't guarantee the 'enjoyable' part... ) Is this some kind of 'in' joke..? What exactly are you insinuating here..? Why would one want to know the French for chiropractor (chiropraticien, apparently...)..? Is there something I should know about..?
They are also getting to play a gig that they otherwise wouldn't if they didn't have a dep!
Yes but the deps, profit is greater if not equal given the other band expenses and chores that they have not contributed to. Eg Pa website, flyers, actually procuring the gigs However one band i depped for slipped me an extra £20 for the extra travelling as i was the only non local and sat in on four rehearsals. Which was nice.

The regulars in the band are paying rehearsal fees, marketing costs and doing more of the legwork so it seems fair thathey take slightly more of the split. We often take £120 eac and pay dep sax players £100
I was never really a fan but this new album is producing some brilliant songs and some great bass lines. Jamareo Artis his bass player is phenomenal, great groove and I wish I looked as 1/10th as cool as him when I play bass. His whole band are amazing though and its nice to see he takes a live band on TV appearances and they are just on fire all the time. I found this live video of him doing Treasure, I think I have listened to it 10 times now, the tone out of Jamareo's Precision is awesome. http://youtu.be/uNKZxjg_IzE
Thanks for sharing this. Mr Mars had passed me by. I must go and raid my daughters ipod and listen to some more. Great band on this too.

First time i heard him was in my teens in the late 70s in the sony showroom in regent st where you could tryi out all there hi fi and keep out of the rain after trawling the guitar shops in denmark st and charing cross road on a saturday afternoon. They had some early projection tv screen type thing playing weather report, probably heavy weather live. I was hooked.

Help me choose a light powerful combo (or cab?) - update: MarkBass CMD121
I wasn't impressed with how loud the briefcase could go when I tried one. Sounded lovely at low to medium volumes, but when I turned it up, it farted at me.
That was my experience too when I tried one at the bass centre as was. That's when the guy suggested I try the markbass. i bought one on the spot. -
I had a ha5000 that failed due to burnt out output transistor. Was fixed under warranty by importer thanks to CODA music in Stevenage a few years ago.
