1.
"Bollox!' Joe Strummer
on re-reading this you know your dead right ! The man needs more fibre in his diet. or as Zappa said "Talking about music is like fishing about architecture".
 2.
I have unfortunately! Fripp is painted as rather a malevolent, unpleasant sort of a fellow and Bruford comes across as possibly the dullest man alive!
Yep that sounds a pretty good summing up of the book to me Pete. I always like the idea of listening to very avant garde, technically brilliant, out there music as practised by both of these two but when I listen to solo Fripp projects and Bill Bruford's later output I find myself asking what it is that people actually find to like in such "challenging" music.
 3.
Where are you based? In answer to the question above, yes I think it's overpriced, but I might be interested at the right price depending where you are!
I'm in Essex so a bit of a schlep from Barnsley
 4. I'd suggest reading Bill Bruford's biography if you want the reall measure of 'The Owl" as Bill refers to him; not altogether affectionately.
 5.
trades?
Sadly not I don't think that i'm allowed any more gear at the moment and the money would be handy.
 6. I have a Technics SXP30 piano http://www.harmonycentral.com/products/82589 which my daughter no longer uses having given up piano lessons and is gathering dust. Not sure what these go for s/h. We bought it from an old bandmate who had bought it for his daughter to learn on too. It's in excellent condition. I'm thinking around £275-300 including stand. Pickup or local delivery only as it's very heavy, having a nice weighted keyboard. i'm not a keyboard player but understand that these are very well thought of pro instruments. Mike
 7.
Oh like muchly. I have spent years being bored for however many hours that song lasts but at least now I will have something to chuckle about the next time I hear it.
Th warm smell of colitis... Hmmm
 8.
I thought I could smell colitas.
Isn't that a digestive tract problem ?
 9.
It seems every time there is a 'is Basschat getting a bit dull' thread BBC gets mentioned, as if his return would breathe new life into the forum. It, he, wouldn't. He was just one contributor, that's it. There are others who no longer contribute, or can't contribute, whom I would much rather see return way ahead of BBC. I found BBC rather tedious and one dimensional in his contributions. Bored the arse of me his continual shitraking, to the point I didn't actually read his posts as they were so predictable. Basschat is described as a community, it takes more than one person to make a community.
what he said.
 10.
What? You mean I can leave at any time??
you can check out any time you want but you can never leave
 11. Hi Essex Basscat, I just use a 6" steel rule from the top of the fret to the underside of the string using Fender factory specs; works for me.
 12. Still for sale. £35 plus £5 postage
 13. I found the problem. A wire had detached from the PCB. Soldered back on and working fine. Still might swapout the preamp and controls one day if anyone has any suggested improvements.
 14. My TL5 electronics are playing up. It's like this one with the dodgy stacked tone controls. http://home.earthlink.net/~timlanders/TL5.html The mid/mid shift control was a bit flaky and i was unable to source a replacement but now only the volume blend controls work at all. I replaced the treble/bass pot ages ago. Should I replace the preamp and pots with Bartolini john East or Aguilar or any other suggestions welcome.
 15. I'm selling my Morley volume pedal. http://www.morleypedals.com/deov.html http://www.andertons.co.uk/compact-pedals/pid13621/cid692/morley-proseries-volume-pedal.asp?utm_source=googlebase&utm_medium=pricecomp&utm_campaign=GoogleShopping It's built like a tank, in great condition and I'd like £35 plus postage, It's quite heavy, or buyer collects.
 16.
Yeah, I can't really fault his listing; it's almost painfully honest. Like you I'd have been searching ebay for welder's tools as well. I can't help but think he might be selling a few more if he just said they were intended for maintaining steelworker's tools.
Like these http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=icIwKaci3MI
 17. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/NUT-FILE-FITS-STRATOCASTER-TELECASTER-PICKUP-NECK-BODY-/190578169933?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item2c5f58184d In fact they work so well someone is selling them as nut files
 18.
The paper envelopes that strings come in. Cut one up. Snip several lengths to size. Glue together to form a shim. Drop into the slot, wind the strings up and try it for size (stop sniggering Bankai ). Add or subtract bits of paper till you're happy. Works fine Nut files. £Scrillions from Stewmac or buy a set of welders nozzle cleaners for £1.85 as here: http://www.ebay.co.u...=item2567088520 ...Then wrap a short length of the relevant-sized bass string in some wet and dry. Rub gently to get the file-scores out. Then some wide dental floss (waxed) to smooth it off and a squirt of PTFE. People charge you £'s for this sort of job and it's a piece of piss.
Great filing tip thanks mate
 19. Many thanks chaps. I've tried a bit of used credit card which seem to be the right thickness. Not sure if it's best sonically the nut action fnarr fnarr is really nice now
 20. On Monday the g slot on my SX Precision nut broke off at rehearsal so I ordered new Graphtech Tusq nut. It fits the slot perfectly but is too low. The G string is flat on the first fret. Can I shim the nut as I'd like to use it and if so what's the best method ? I've read all sorts of stuff involving bits of plastic, veneer or baking soda and superglue I would get a blank and have a go at cutting a new one but don't have any nut files.
 21. Great to hear you're back on the road again. Best wishes and [s]good luck[/s] break a leg with the new band.
 22.
hi guys got my ibanez sr300 purely for the fact is has a small neck 38ml at the nut as i have real small fingers im still struggling quite a bit with my small fingers ie if im running down scales and go from the 1st fret a string to 4th e string ect anyone got any ideas to make things easier ie excercises or should i start doing yoga stretches on my fingers thanks jamie
Hi Jamie, Yoga stretching fingers sounds good. Warm up excercises for your hands wrists and fingers before you start playing are always a good idea especially if you're stretching. I have very small hands too and have found that 1 fret per finger on the left hand can end up being quite painful and tiring but have a pretty good stretch having been playing for years. However best advice I can offer is to keep practising those scales keeping your thumb and hand fairly fluid and mobile on the back of the neck and move around rather than stretch your fingers too hard, especially if you haven't been playing long; a good classical hand position with plenty of air between the neck and he palm is good. Also don't use excessive pressure I read some good advice a few years ago suggesting that if you fret a note and release the pressure to the point where it starts to buzz you'll be surprised to find how little grip is actually needed to hold down a note cleanly. This will enable you to move around more deftly too. Hope this helps.
