1. Nearly always fingers butif not 1mm Tortex shaped as above for bass and g**tar. Best ones I found have a star shaped hole in the middle and never slip.
2. I'm really looking forward to this and happy to pay in advance once instructed. As mentioned elsewhere in this thread I'm happy to bring my tools along and help anyone with instrument setups and advice for newbies. Whilst not a professional lutheran (yet ) I have been working on my own and friends instruments for years and would be pleased to help with re-stringing, intonation, truss rod and action adjustments; bring your own strings. I may dig out an old but surprisingly playable Hohner Precision copy which has been mouldering away in the back of a dank dark cupboard for years for people to practice on/demonstrate. If anyone else has an old plywood bass or g***ar bring it along to fiddle and fettle. Mike
3. hope I can try your Jazz 5 Truckstop ! I'm happy to stump up a couple of extra quid if we need to.
4. I heard the vocal tracks isolated on this. Spine tinglingly good and I think it was done in one take. Mind you this is pretty sublime too !
5. Hi Peds welcome to the forum. I don't know what part of Essex you're in but perhaps you might be interested in this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=100768
6. I have one of these- clues in the name Geddit ? I can't believe this is going for only £300 and no one's bought it They're great Strats. and you're quite right Lozz incredibly versatile.
7. I tried this when I picked up my SX from WHUFC last week. It's really good. Just needs a quick setup and you've got a great Stingray for a great price. if I was in the market for one of these, and had the money I'd 'ave it.
8. I bought WHUFC's SX Precision. I'm so pleased with it. It's great He's a really nice guy, very helpful, a pleasure to deal with and let me try his other basses over a cup of tea while I was there. Sorry I inadvertently stole his pick though !
9. Think I'll bring my, recently purchased from WHUFC on here, my SX '62 precision-alike because its really nice.
10.
That's probably the best looking SX I've ever seen!
...and it's all mine now! I picked it up from WHUFC this evening, gave it a quick truss rod and action tweak and it plays as well as it looks. Really pleased with it. Looking forward to trying for real at a rehearsal Friday week and hopefully plugging it in tomorrow if it doesn't snow and I'm home alone. By the way sorry WHUFC I trousered your pick. Shall I post it back !?
11. Oh no! More fuel for my Precision GAS. It'll end in domestic turmoil.
12. I had a Tribute GL2000 with maple neck. Great bass. The only downside was the quality of the pots. Mine started playing up not long after I bought it new. I've heard others with the same problem. The shop that I bought them from swapped mine for US Mighty Mite ones and it was lovely from then on. You could do it yourself but it's a bit tricky soldering as it's all a bit tight in there.
13. Good for getting started on new songs. Thanks Pete
14. Hi Hi Hi Real horrorshow to govereet on here. Angel trombones and devil's trumpets there are Viddy you later
15. So long as it's not a no trousers policy
16. You should come along to this: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=100768
17. I haven't much i the way of exciting toys to bring. I have a us Jazz bass, A peavey TL5 (Tim landers signature) and a markbass CMD102p if any one wants a go on any of these. If not I'll just come and bring myself. Happy to help out on any advice for setting up instruments for newbies as mentioned above somewhere. I can bring my feeler gauges screwdrivers and allen keys if it helps!
18. Me too. £10 to book my place if we can have payment details
19. Peavey do seem to be good at growl. I have a late 90's USA Peavey TL5 signature that I picked up for a snip on ebay . I think that the electrics are a forerunner of the cirrus and the mid sweep knob means that you can go from thump to growl really easily. My only criticisms are that the stacked pots are a bit flaky and the it has a big chunky old neck (34'' scale), which is fine when you get used to it, with a nice string spacing and low action. Haven't tried a new cirrus to compare but would imagine that they're quite different.
20. I'd behappy to pony up the dough ie ten quid in advance if we have a date that I can do and a venue
