I find it rather amusing that this subject has come up on the day that I turn 51!
Today? If so, Happy 51st birthday mate. Anyway, back on topic. My definition of "making it" would be making enough income to live off, and constant gigging/touring. Playing Arena shows is part of the teenage musicians dreams (I'm 16, so that applies to me) but if that ever happens to me, i'll consider that i've "Made it" long before that point. Yes, i don't really need much of an income at the moment to support myself off (I don't go drinking every weekend, i don't smoke. I need strings, food and bus tickets, simple) so that wouldnt be too hard to achieve at the moment. Although, if i turned on Kerrang! and saw my own face on there, i couldnt help but i feel a little on top of the world. Liam -
Neither of these are my personal soundcloud accounts, as i don't have one, but here is my bands account and also the account of a very good friend of mine, who needs sharing as she's too talented for me to not post it here. Welcome from another Mancunian. Not much in the way of prog around these parts it would seem, but that could always change. Liam

Another guy i cannot believe that i forgot to mention, is Paolo Gregoletto of Trivium, That guy is one hell of a player, really quite technical too, watching some videos of Trivium Live at Chapman Studios and he's not even breaking a sweat with the stuff he's playing, he also works really well with the drummer Nick, those 2 make a really tight and defined rhythm section.
I think Nate Mendel from the Foo Fighters plays some really great, melodic stuff that quite often goes unnoticed underneath all those loud guitars and showboating drummers (yeah, including the one at the front with the microphone ) Rarely, if ever, gets a mention on here, but a great player with some lovely lines under his belt.
+1, I also don't like the fact that now Pat Smear (Atrocious name) is back in Foo Fighters, Nate has been pushed to the back of the stage with Taylor and isnt as upfront as he used to be.
Tye Zamora from Alien Ant Farm is a brilliant bass player. Arif Miradolbhagi of Protest the Hero is unreal
I totally forgot about Tye, i havent listened to AAF in ages, i remember loving their stuff a few years ago. Liam

Phone charger is a definate must have, and i would say so is spare clothes, but i'm always too prepared, its in my nature. I would personally take spare clothes, phone charger, and all the other assorted crap i take to my normal gigs, and i'd make sure to always have a second bass, ready and tuned, even if it doesnt get used.
Agree on Paul - I think a lot of people still labour under the misapprehension that he simply banged out open notes at lightspeed! I would also add: Rex Brown - Pantera... what a total monster! All those little runs, and a really good control of the ryhthmn.
+1 to Rex, he was a monster. Also anyone who disagrees about Paul should listen to Confessions off the album MFKR. Liam

Being asked to turn down by management
But there are only a limited number of bands that will bring in punters and help to establish a pub as a successful music venue In my experience, there are very few complaints about noise from landlords who have a pub packed full of thirsty customers who have come to see the band!
+1 to this, might be the reason my band never get asked to turn down. Also, i have to agree with the people saying that for those few hours, the landlord is your boss. He/She is the one who has hired you, the one who will be paying you, and the one that can offer you extra work in the future, possibly even for a higher rate. Get on their bad side, and thats potentially a lot of money lost, for the both of you. Liam -
Johnny Christ (Avenged Sevenfold, a little bit of a hidden gem in my eyes) Paul Gray (Slipnot, got a lot of mention when he passed but never any other time) Jason James (Bullet For My Valentine, NEVER seen him mentioned on here) Jeremy Davis (Paramore, not as good as the other 3, but still can hold his own pretty well) I rarely, if ever, see any of those mentioned on here. Johnny and Paul are absolute monsters too. Liam

"Obscene Sex/Horrorpunk Industrial Rock n Roll Band"
LiamPodmore replied to solo4652's topic in Musicians Wanted
Damn, its 17+ Only, rules me out. Thats the kind of genre some of my friends think i would fit (Strangely) and in my area. Ah well, i'll stick with my pop/punk projects. Although, if i had transport and was 17 i would probably have applied for this if i wasnt too busy with other projects. Liam -
If my drummer didn't show for a gig, i wouldn't be there either, so i doubt my band could find a dep bassist and drummer in time. Also, we're pretty young, so would likely struggle to find anyone to i sit in anyway. Our gigs are mostly pubs, and with all our mates, who don't mind us starting a little late anyway, so its not too bad. Liam

One of my "Things to do in life" is go and sit near his memorial stone playing Anesthesia or For Whom The Bell Tolls, as well as actually visit his memorial. Although he died 9 years before i was born, so i never got the chance to see him, he's still one of, if not my biggest influence, and the reason i started playing bass. R.I.P. Clifford Lee Burton. Thanks for that guys. I decided to take a plunge on the Warwick one this morning, should be here tomorrow. Liam

Nobody have any idea where to get a cheap one? I remember when you could pick these up on here for £20, now they're three times that. Liam

Hi all, I'm looking for a decent but cheap (I know they don't always go hand in hand) 4U Rack case, just something to throw my head in, and maybe a wireless system if i can afford one. Only looking to spend about £40, £50 Max, including delivery. Anyone know of the best place for one, not arsed whether its new or used. EDIT: Anyone know if this is decent quality or not? Being asked to turn down by management
LiamPodmore replied to Dave Vader's topic in General Discussion
Strangely, my band have never been asked to turn down, although i do think we control our volume relatively well. We do have limitations gear wise, such as me only using a 150w 1x12 combo most of the time, but even then, i can still hear myself and the crowd can without me cranking it to the max, i can even still hear the kick which isn't miked, and this is a pop/punk/alternative band too. Those are my personal favourites, those would both suit my band so well. Too bad i don't have a passive Jazz, SVT, P Deluxe, Ashdown ABM500, Ampeg SVT-410HLF, or any of the other crap that those guys have. Liam
I remember trying out a 'new' Ibanez BTB in a shop once with a horrible setup and really crackly pots. When I mentioned these to the assistant, he very helpfully advised me that 'basses are supposed to have high action', because 'otherwise you just get fretbuzz'. And that 'active basses always have noisy knobs, because of the electricity in them'
That has actually made my day. How someone can be that clueless and work in a music shop is beyond me. You would think that at least a basic knowledge of how guitars and basses work would be necessary. Liam

I love the Ibanez SR 6 strings, my mate has the SR506 and although its a tad neck heavy its really nice to play, and has a sound to match. Liam
