1. FTW is also a band called For The Weekend. Another few acronyms you may come across are Squier VM (Vintage Modified) or CV (Classic Vibe) and RW (Road Worn) may pop up every so often too. There are also many for Fenders diferent finishes, ie CAR (Candy Apple Red) but i'm not going through all of those, as there are quite a lot. Liam
2. Pic 1: 2007 Ibanez GSR200, now converted to a passive p bass (vol/tone) and including more stickers. Cost me £150 in '07. (Pic taken august 2010) Pic 2: Ibanez GSR200 again, this time strung BEAD as it was the time when Fender were replacing my 5 (Took them 10 weeks) along with my guitarists Line 6 Lowdown LD150. Its a good little combo, but is really struggling to put out the volume in our recent gigs. The cards were also because it was my 15th Birthday, was only last year. (Pic taken May 15th 2010) Pic 3: 2010 Squier Deluxe Jazz V Active, my main gigging bass. Cost me £170 for an '07 shop floor model, that one broke so Fender UK sent me the 2010. (Pic taken September 24th 2010) Pic 4: 2007 Squier Deluxe Jazz V Active, this is the one that broke so Fender replaced it. I prefered it as it was lighter and suited me better i think, but the hardware and electronics on the 2010 are much better so i wont complain. (Pic taken February 2010) Pic 5: Warwick ProFet 5.1 + Peavey PA Cab, Warwick was bought on here for £150 this January, the Peavey is actually part of our band PA so i dont use it often, only on gigs where it isnt our PA, which tend to be bigger gigs where other bands provide backline, so its rare. I need to get myself a cab of some sort, 2x210's sounds good i think. (Pic taken may 2011) I also find it quite funny that in all 3 pics where i'm playing on here i'm using a pick, when i actually play fingerstyle most of the time. I'm 16 now and all of this gear has been funded by christmas and birthday money, except the Line 6 which belongs to my guitarist (He has a gorgeous Epiphone Les Paul Plus Top in Blueburst) and any of my next purchases will be with money from my apprenticeship i start in september, aiming for a Musicman Stingray 5 (White, white p/g, maple fretboard) or Stignray 4 (White, black p/g, maple fretboard) and hopefully a P Bass (Red, white p/g, maple fretboard) along with a new rig which will be a Line 6 Relay G90 Wireless into either a Fender TBP-1 and Peavey IPR 1600 or some other rig that has footswitchable tube overdive (Hartke Kilo, Ashdown ABM500 etc..) into 2x210's or 2x212's. 3. Let the 2nd guitarist carry on playing and hope the song doesnt have a solo or any recognisable riffs that the lead guitarist plays. That and probably end the song early, like after the next chorus. Fortunately, this has never happened to us, and neither of our guitarists carry spare guitars or strings (That would be a good idea) so we'd be pretty screwed. Ive also taken a spare bass to gigs a few times, including my gig last night, but i don't do this too often as my 2nd bass is in the middle of a full electronics change that i can't afford to finish yet, and we're also sometimes quite tight for space too. Liam
4. Those actually look quite good, my bands singer is after the Fender Blacktop Telecaster in Candy Apple Red. Liam
5. Personally, i would save up abit more and go for Line 6 Units, as they are exempt from any licensing and frequency band stuff, and are really good quality stuff aswell. Liam
6. Warwick/Rockstand and Gator both make them, I think Stagg does one for 4 aswell, but i'm not too sure on that one. Liam
7. Not a bass, but does any more really need to be said? Liam
8. Over the past year or so i've gone from loving Ibanez SR's to Musicman Stingrays, so now i want a Stingray. Since i got my Jazz i've also started to like those alot more, but still prefer P's over those. Liam
9. Both, depending on the song, how i feel that night, how tired i am, and how sweaty my right hand is. Mostly finger, but some stuff i use pick for. Liam
10. Trace Elliot are basically the be all and end all of cheap, old, ROCK SOLID amps in my opinion. Extremely rugged, definately underrated in terms of power, louder than loud, and to top it all off have great tone too. Liam
11. My dad and brother both have those for their laptops/netbooks, quite useful bits of kit actually. Good way to use them actually, its something i never thought of. Liam
12. Soundcheck when theres nobody around, tends to be either 1985 by Bowling For Soup, or our latest original.cover we want another run through. For me personally it tends to be our song Lying Through My Teeth as it uses quite a big tonal range (D on my B String to the D at the 19th fret on my G) so i get to check everywhere i use. Edit: We also run through the bridge section of Monster by The Automatic to check mic levels. Liam
13. Have you tried Ultimate-Guitar? They tend to have tab for most songs on there, i always use it. Liam
14. My mate has a TRB1005J which has a really solid B string, the electronics are top notch, definately a wide range of tones available and easy to play, very well balanced aswell if i remember correctly. Liam
15.
I very much liked it, and nearly bought one (or the 5 string equivalent), the big sticking point in the end was the colour, brown and brown only, are you serious?
I actually quite like the colour of it, i have no idea why, but if they sold them over here i would probably go for an SR706, as its essentially the same bass but with a flamed maple top and has 2 colour choices i think. Liam
16.
Yeah i love my wee Ibby. Especially since I only paid £90 for it.
Now that i must say, is a DAMN good deal. I paid about £150 for mine in 2007 and since then its survived everything from 5ft drops, been hit with falling motorbike parts and involved in a car accident with only a gig bag on my back for protection, and still hasnt missed a beat. Absolutely awesome for the money. Liam
17. From the few i've played, i quite liked my friend Ibanez SR506, a little neck dive but really light and easy to play, all in all a really awesome bass. Liam
18. Welcome, and theres no shame in that trusty old Ibanez GSR200, they are actually rock solid basses for such little money. I still have one and love it, occasionally play it out still. Liam
19. i'd so go an extra few quid and get an ART XDirect or ZDirect, i found those pretty good. Liam
20. Ashdown 427 Small Block, Ashdown BTA300, Ashdown BTA400, Ashdown DP200H, Ashdown LB-30 Drophead 15H Combo. You missed a few Ashdowns i think. Liam
21.
Why would you want to do that? (unless I've missed the point!)
To record over part of a track? Incase you screw up on the recording, or think a part needs a little change. On another note, that i forgot to mention in my previous post, i think that Audacity is okay but like others i recommend Reaper. Liam
22. If i could sing i could manage it, because i tend not to concentrate on my bass as i don't really need to, for some reason i can play without conentrating, but i can't sing very well so i dont need to anyway. Liam
23. My band have just recorded our latest acoustic track, which is a cover of the Fountains of Wayne classic Stacy's Mom. Recorded this sunday (26/06/11) at our drummers house using a Rock Band USB Microphone and Audacity. We also have another acoustic track on there which is an original of ours called 1999. So, what do you guys think? Liam
24. Both recorded with a Rock Band USB Microphone and Audacity, its easy to use but has major flaws, such as its hard to figure out how to record over part of a track, without having to do it on a new track (We still havent figured it out) Liam
25. I had to do it on my Ibanez when Fender took 8 weeks to replace my Jazz V, i had to give it a setup, didnt have to file the nut down as the .125 B i was using just fit and it worked fine for me. Made some songs a little awkward not having the G string though. Liam
