Had the pleasure of catching Andy Fairweather Low last night at Ripley near Harrogate. Really superb show with a great band featuring Dave Bronze. He was playing a Lake Placid blue Fender Jazz reissue with black nylon strings, into a Mark bass rig with 6x10 cab - sounded immense! I love Dave's playing - economical but right in the groove. He seemed to be enjoying it too, helped by having Paul Beavis on drums. A rare chance to see a world class bassist in a small gig. Music was a mix of blues / country / r&b / even gospel! Also a few Amen Corner gems thrown in along with some of Andy's previous solo stuff. Catch them if you get chance on rest of UK tour - dates here. Did have a couple of years ago - P.Bass no name copy (£15 s/h in local paper) coupled with a Harke head and Carlsboro 1x15 cab also bought locally for £75, so £90 total. Gigged it a few times in dodgy pubs and was fine. Love cheap gear me! (Obvious as I also love Danelectros....)

I have a couple of Peavey 18" Black Widow 4 ohm speaker chassis that came out of their UL-118 bass bins. They don't work, so presumably need reconing/fixing. Anyone know if it's worth doing, or alternatively if they're worth anything to someone who may be able to do it? I'd prefer to just move them on if poss, assuming it would be economically viable for someone to repair them? Any help much appreciated, cheers.

One of my favourite bands, seen them many times. Great basslines in their stuff, always economical but just 'right' for the song etc. 'If I ever lose this heaven', 'Work to do' and 'Atlantic Avenue' amongst some of my faves.

Am sure a lot of pubs take the wider view of assessing profits on a weekly/monthly basis rather than nightly. Overall outgoings (including entertainment of all types) set against takings - if its looking okay, then live music survives! I'm in the very fortunate position of playing a weekly residency at a pub with a great landlady, who takes risks with live music and it's paid off. Before she took over, the pub used to charge on the door to help cover our fee-think it was £3, and we used to get maybe 50/60 punters on a regular basis. When Maggie arrived, she did n't believe in this, and made it free entry which I thought was financial suicide. Glad to say she was right - we now get over 100 in each week, along with a few who pop in for a swiftie as well, so her takings have increased a fair bit. Just wish there were a few more who had her vision & bottle to give it a go.

I'm intrigued by this bass - the review says it has very close string spacing at the bridge, and sounds quite 'uprighty' which apparently was it's design brief in the 50's. Really fancy trying one out, along with it's sister model the Kay Pro Bass K162.[attachment=141630:Kay bass.png]

I was in my late teens / early twenties when the disco thing took off, and working in a record store. It was nearly always women who bought the stuff, with a lot of men being afraid of harming their 'rock' credentials to admit to liking / buying disco music. Makes me laugh (now it's considered okay to like disco) how those same blokes often make out they were really into it back in the day, when all they listened to was lousy prog rock / early metal etc. And funnily enough they were the ones then who usually did n't have girlfriends - go figure!

Can anyone recommend someone who can do a set up on a Gibson Les Paul in the Hull / East Yorkshire area? Otherwise am guessing it may be York / Leeds etc which is a bit of a trek. Cheers.

Your amp will run a single 4 ohm cab or two 8 ohm cabs, but connecting two 4 ohms cabs (as you predict) will bring the load down to 2 ohms which your amp won't be happy with.

Agree with most of the above. However, if you keep an eye on local press/Gumtree/Ebay etc you can maybe pick up a perfectly usable Peavey/Yamaha top box style mixer amplifier that will have 6/8 channels and maybe pump out 400 to 600watts a side for less than £200 if you're lucky. Combined with a s/h pair of say Peavey HiSys 2 speakers, you should get a working system for circa £400. Add a s/h powered monitor for around £80 and some leads it will all add up to only a shade over £500. Plus, if/when you want to upgrade you should n't lose that much on your outlay. Big Deal on Eastgate in Leeds sometimes have good bits of PA kit.
