7. There's what looks like an new (unused) Fender hard case to fit a Jazz advertised on York Gumtree for £75. (Says its situated in Kirkstall though, which I assume is Leeds.) Good price for one of these I reckon - they're £132 on Thomann. Worth a look if you're after one. Cheers, Pete.
8. Love my 2 band, love my 3 band too! Bit miffed at selling my mint Sub last week, as I also loved that! Just great reliable basses.
9. I use my Dano Longhorn for country/rock and roll/rootsy gigs. Everything else then its Stingray 2EQ with my own rig, and 3EQ if its anyone else's! Job done.
10.
For all those that have slated the show, or the bands appearing just what would you prefer? This is a live music show with a mix of tastes/artists/talent and although I don't always like what I hear at least the BBC are trying. So, I'm very interested to hear what these people would prefer?
+1

13. If the Marshall has been modded that much and is not great cosmetically, don't think its going to be worth the cost of a refurb. Also to get the max from your Carlsbro you'd probably need to have it wire to a 4 ohm load, which wouldnt be in keeping with the spec/era your Marshall dates from (am guessing it would have originally been 16 ohm cab), thus making it even less desirable for vintage freaks. I'd put the money towards a good bass cab, and flog the Marshall as it is - someone may give you a decent price for it,you never know!
14.
I don't watch it as much as I'd like to, but I still think that it's a fascinating window through which you can view a multitude of different styles, approaches and degrees of talent. There was a time years ago when I couldn't stand all the 'cr*p' (my perception at the time) bands that went on. But now I find even the woeful performances have points of interest. Boy are my opinions of music mellowing out in my old age!
+1 Thought it was ok - I usually record it and then skip through. Weakest thing IMO was Phil Collins/Klaxons, best maybe the Manics or Queen Emily? As for Mark Ronson,WTF? I always look forward to this show though - (mostly)100% live performances, lots of acts I would maybe never have found otherwise etc. And I don't think the sound is that bad either (maybe thats just my 52 year old ears...... )
15.
I know someone using the SWR 8x8 cab. He's very loud which is probably why he's blown every speaker over the last 5 years. I wouldn't use 8's.
I had an SWR Henry 8x8 cab. Used it with GK700 head which suited it fine. Absolutely superb thing, more bass than you'd ever need! Dont forget the reluctance of the bass world to accept 10 inch speakers not that long ago, and now look....... If it had n't been so heavy would still be using it now.( Easier than an 8x10 though ).
16. Fantastic clip, love it. Think the amp is an early 70's Fender Dual Showman head / matching cab. These were basically a Twin Reverb amp section, with the reverb tank in the bottom of the amp cabinet. The cabs were 2x15's, with JBL's being the usual option. Bit of an all round set up - guitar/keys etc, although the cab could be specified with bass spec JBL's too (K140's). Looks like James is using the 'normal' channel (rather than the more guitar friendly 'vibrato' one!)
17. Just sold a MM bass to Jim. Easy transaction / quick payment with no messing and great communications too. Top feller, recommended. Cheers,Pete.
18. Just got back from the show. Some nice basses on Nicks Guitars (of Wetherby) stand (www.nicksguitars.com) Bought a few bits and bobs, watched Jerry Donahue for a while and had something from the 'Pie Menu' in the canteen- (how very Yorkshire is that! ) Can think of worse ways of spending a couple of hours on a Sunday. Anyone else go / buy owt?
19. These were originally marketed as suitable for guitar/keyboards etc as well as bass. Great amps, and a cracking deal too. Bump!
20. Its okay- not as good as the Manchester one maybe, but still worth a look.
21. May be worth a look at this show, usually some basses kicking about as well as good deals on strings and accessories etc. Also Jerry Donahue is performing along with some other live bands. Pudsey Civic Hall, Dawsons Corner,Stanningley,Pudsey LS28 5TA. 10am till 4pm. Cheers, Pete. (Realise this may have been already posted earlier, just thought I'd put up a reminder!)
22. There are regularly fake Gibsons for sale on various sites in the UK which are obviously disregarding numerous trading laws. Even the cases are Gibson branded, and the guitars may easily be mistaken for the genuine article by young/inexperienced players. Seems more than a bit wrong to me, am just amazed they have n't been rumbled yet.
23. Recently bought a cab from Rob. Exactly as described, and he helped with delivery by meeting me at m'way services to do our dodgy deal! Lovely bloke, thoroughly recommended.
