  1. Bought a Mahalo MEB1 mini-bass from eBay. So many things wrong with it that I'm having to send it back.

Unlikely...there's a used, red (a No-no for me) Kala for around the same money.

I think I'll wait for another to come along...or @Jabba_the_gut to sell one of his creations.

I did look at that red one momentarily, but I've got a few projects on the go and wouldn't play it.

Never heard of it so had to have a look. I'd be a bit drawn if there was a fretless version. I assume build/finish was disappointing though?

  2. SOLD OUT!! Now there's a surprise...I bet most went to users of this forum.
  3. I've had three Rays since I started playing again back in 2010 (IIRC). The first was a '96 with a highly figure neck and the muted bridge. The other two - a 2006 and one built in Japan - neither came anywhere near to the '96. I should never have sold it. As others have said, find one you really like (and you have the budget) and keep it....or do as @Cuzzie says and have one built with all the "right" bits.
  4. Like the Reflex...hate the Bongo
  5. That list is why I refuse to be in a covers band. Those and "Hey Joe"...
  6. Electric Bass strings?? I thought that bronze strings were for acoustics only?? FOLLOW THE RULES PEOPLE!!! ☺️
  7. Aren't there short scale Ashbory basses (not the rubber fat string things). IIRC there have been a few available on ebay recently.
  8. Fill the house with equipment before she fills it with shoes and handbags
  9. Must be a trick of the light (they don't make black fret wire) the frets look black. Coming on nicely....
  10. Yeah, cos that would make a lot of difference
  11. Sold!!!
  12. Not a transaction as such... Mike directed a buyer to one of my For Sale items - a Yamaha BBN4 11 - and acted as a go between to facilitate the sale....very much obliged. He's a good man...despite what his wife says when he's not in earshot😉😉. Thanks Mike
  13. Nell was referred to me by long-standing BCer @scrumpymike as he was looking for a reasonably priced bass. Enter, stage left, my Yamaha BBN4 11 which is due to be collected tomorrow. A welcomed new member to the forum, hope he sticks around. Trade with confidence.
  14. He lost a bit of credibility with me when I found his dad is the person on the R White's Lemonade ad..you know the one I mean.
  15. I agree...I bought the Jeff Berlin combo on recommendation of a friend - so disappointing. I couldn't get anything like a usable tone. Love that Ashdown tonal palette...and the customer service is probably the best in the UK. I love that classic Trace Elliot palette. My suggestion would be to whip the head out of your combo (or pick up another for virtually nothing) and use that. On their own, the heads don't weigh that much (12lbs??). Don't be tempted by the Elf - it may say Trace Elliot on the case but it doesn't have the original tone package.
  16. Ha!!! Got you...You're not a bass player....you're a saxophonist. Welcome
  17. I thought you were talking about my ex for a second...🙄🙄
  18. Something similar on ebay https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Yamaha-BBN4-electric-bass-guitar-in-black-EFFECTIVELY-NEW/293513641803?hash=item4456c6bf4b:g:jasAAOSwcOBd3CMI

    Hi All

Welcome John The trick is not to stretch your hand, rather pivot off your thumb. By doing this you have a reach of maybe 7 or 8 frets. When you know your way round the fretboard you'll see that you never need to reach more than 4 frets anyway. Good luck
  20. I had the 4 string version of your GB Spitfire...
  21. I'd forgotten how good an album this is...ordered from Amazon

  22. Got it in your music collection?? https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mirror-GRAHAM-CENTRAL-STATION-2006-05-03/dp/B01G9AF216/ref=sr_1_79?crid=1U28G6LZ2Q8V1&dchild=1&keywords=graham+central+station&qid=1586611260&sprefix=graham+c%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-79
