You (well me, anyway) can see potential but not at this price...by the time you've picked up the replacement parts the bass ceases to be cost effective.

One consideration that seems to have been omitted so far is that of weight. I mention this as the OP is being steered towards a Sandberg, for good reason (build quality/ playability), however I know of a few BCers who have moved theirs on because of the weight issue. Though 1lb doesn't sound like a lot expect to notice this if you're buying either a 9 or 10lb instrument.

I can't for the life of me remember who it is/was, but one of the members here used to work at Trace Elliot when they were based in Essex. I remember as they sold me their TE Varsity jacket...not available for sale to members of the public. Paul Stevens told me he donated his to his local charity shop...

I have two 150 SMC and a 300 SMC (amongst others) - completely happy with them. I don't think that there is "a best" TE head - they're all good AFAIK.
