  1. Of the three, BSSM had the biggest impact on me at that time, and probably still to this day. The Nirvana one was ok (I like it more now), and Soundgarden completely passed me by.
  2. I've done this a few times. Always prefer the tone to be honest, but I do miss having air move behind me.
  3. The only thing I've had problems with when using a wireless system was an annoying click coming from the tweeter on a 4x10 cab, which didn't happen when using a lead. Turned the tweeter down; problem solved.

    Why?

I was in a band with friends from the age of 14 - however nobody could play anything. Over the next couple of years people learned instruments, and other musical kids joined. One day one of them asked "Why is Heathy in the band? He can't do anything." I was heavily into Iron Maiden at that time, and also thought Phil Lynott looked cool playing 'Out in the Fields'. I spotted that our band didn't have a bass player, so used my first few months YTS wages to buy a bass and amp. As well as securing my place in the band, it also enabled me to lever out the guy who wanted rid of me. And the rest is history...
  5. I was once asked to turn down by a punter as the bass was affecting their pacemaker. They were sat about 3 feet away from the PA! I simply adjusted the 'producer switch', and they seemed happy. Fortunately they didn't die during the gig.
  6. I used to work with someone who went to the 1970 IoW festival. Being a big Hendrix fan, I asked him what he was like. He said that his only memory of the event was waking up on a pile of beer cans. So, @KiOgon, what was Hendrix like...?
  7. Particularly if it's part of a new series of 'Sunday Night Live...' Not sure what Tarby would make of it all.
  8. This looks great. Thanks for posting.
  9. Someone once referred to me as 'the bass player who looks like Matt Damon'. I'll take that.
  10. I'm now gassing for a Shuker bass, damn you.
  11. Completely disagree. He was great with AC/DC at the Olympic Stadium a few years back. Aside from nailing the songs, he looked like he was living the dream. I guess this post is about replacement singers, because (like it or not) the singer is almost always the focal point for an audience and everyone else is essentially a backing musician. A change in a high profile frontman can be hard for some fans to take, but - so what. And just for the record, I think that Adam Lambert is awesome with Queen.
  12. Sounds to me like he might be doing you a favour. Part of the challenge of that solo for me is coming back in with the low F on time.
  13. This song is an ongoing challenge for me. The latest change I am making is to stop slapping it altogether (after 30+ years, I've finally accepted that slapping is not for me). There are two bass lines in many of the verses so this allows me to take more of a best of both worlds approach. But if I fall flat on my @rse at the next gig I'll probably change my mind again.
  14. I think the open notes are there (apart from the open E). I thought they were ghost notes until I slowed the track down to 50% on You Tube. I really like the cross string approach - so thanks for posting this. Always reassuring to me that Paul Simon's bass player messes it up live. I think it's important to remain loyal to that!
  15. I'm afraid not. That is just as much hard work.
  16. In the 90s a friend of mine had over £10ks worth of 'borrowed' gear. He and his partner split up soon afterwards.
  17. Looks like the musicman now has a tone knob.
  18. Another one! While I was waiting to go in to a job interview, a couple of guys who worked there recognised me from a gig I had played in that town. When the interviewer turned up, she saw me in conversation and getting on really well with a couple of current employees. Maybe it made a difference - I got the job!
  19. I was once in a department store and a guy came up to me saying he recognised me from a gig that was around 15 years prior. He went on to say how much he enjoyed it, and listed off several of the songs we did. It did feel good.
  20. It used to go down well, even without the right effects (I think I just used a big muff). Need to watch the tempo though. I also played it depping with another band, far too fast and although I could keep up it sounded terrible! I spent a lot of practice time playing the Hysteria riff with a metronome to build up right hand stamina. We also did New Born, which took even more work. Knights is another stamina song - we never did it live though because the singer could never find the first note... Good luck!
