  1. What about 'The Bubinga Five'? If the other band members are not on BC, then they'll never know!
  2. It's only dead in terms of providing an income to Bobby Gillespie! Similar to why Gene Simmons says the same thing. The 'industry' as he knew it is over. The music, not so much.
  3. Nobody Does it better This was the first Bond film I saw in the Cinema - at Great Yarmouth. Afterwards we went into a local department store, which had the Lotus Esprit, and some other models from the film on display. I have always thought that there is a high correlation between the quality of Bond theme songs and the quality of the film. Anyone else?
  4. I have recently made the decision to give up playing slap altogether. It has taken up an inordinate amount of practice time over the years, so I suppose it's just not for me. Added to that, I struggle to actually hear myself live when slapping. The chorus to Peg is really hard to play fingerstyle though, so I may change my mind again before my next gig!
  5. I had some problems in the early 90s. Went to a chiropractor who sorted me out - apparently some of the smaller bones in my wrist were out of alignment. I believe the problems were a combination of 100 press ups a day, 'upside-down' writing style, and poor bass technique. I wore a wrist support for a while, which was mainly as a reminder that I needed to address these issues. I did and 25+ years later I'm still fine. So - not nearly as serious as CTS, but I hope the above is of some use.
  6. I feel I should point out that this rule only applies to cats, so don't try this in your local music shop. I learned this lesson the hard way.
  7. Really enjoying this. Do you incorporate runs like this into your playing? One more thing - What's the chord on the backing track?
  8. I once decided to have a 'black knight' evening at a function gig. It's surprising what that riff will fit into.
  9. The down side of playing stage right is that one drummer I played with used to really whack a china cymbal he had on that side of his kit. I'm still hearing it 25 years later!
  10. In recent years I have always ended up on stage left. Although I think stage right would be better as I would be able to see the neck of my bass and the drummer at the same time.
  11. I have two Hipshot bass Xtenders for sale. Both are in excellent condition. They are: Chrome BT8 – previously fitted to a 2012 American Deluxe Precision Details: https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-xtenders/products/bt8-bass-xtender Chrome BT12C – previously fitted to a 2016 American Standard Jazz Details: https://hipshotproducts.com/collections/bass-xtenders/products/bt12-bass-xtender Looking for £45 each including postage My feedback thread is here: https://www.basschat.co.uk/topic/124316-feedback-for-heathy-steve/?tab=comments#comment-1137183 Pic below
  12. For sale - my American Deluxe Precision in natural finish with maple fingerboard. P/J pickup configuration. 21 Fret. 3 band active EQ with Active/Passive switch. Weighing in at 9lbs. The bass dates to 2011 (based on the serial number), and is still in excellent condition with all original parts. There is one ding on the top edge of the body, which I only recently discovered by feel, and couldn't capture in a photograph. Looking for £950 £850! Price includes spare tort pickguard, original Fender hard case +candy, and two planet waves straps with strap locks (if you want them!). Inspired by a thread on this forum I recently considered converting this bass to passive, so will also throw in the custom pickguard I bought for this project. Both additional pickguards are from WD Music. Collection preferred, or buyer to arrange shipping (I am based in North Essex). 13. For me, the most shocking was Zappa, Bowie, and more recently Keith Flint. I also always feel a sense of loss when listening to Hendrix and Jeff Buckley, even though they both passed way before I was aware of their music. A kind of 'what might have been' kind of thing...
  14. Have you tried recording yourselves and listening back to it. In the past I have done that, and it help identified note choices and lengths that weren't working well.
  15. The Prodigy at Brixton in 97 was the only gig I've been to where it felt like the bass had rearranged my internal organs. Keith Flint was an outstanding frontman and will be sadly missed.
  16. I like the idea of a passive Stingray, but the absence of the tone knob and the oversized volume knob just turns this into a novelty item IMO. I'm sure that the 50 will sell, though.
  17. I'm not offended by this post. And that offends me.
  18. I'm a lefty who plays right-handed. That always felt the natural way, however in recent years I have realised that my right hand is a real weak link in my playing.
  19. So you've had a dream about someone being keen to give you wood - exotically - and then charge you more than you thought. Have you posted this in the correct forum?
  20. Loved it before they played a note.
  21. Have held off buying tickets as the timing's not good for me. However, if Ike was also in the band...
  22. There is often a big difference between the music I like to listen to, and the music I like to play. Also, occasionally after regularly playing music I like to listen to, I no longer like to listen to it! So in IMHO, probably not worth getting bogged down with the choice of songs if everything else is good.
  23. Pretenders - brass in pocket and I'm sorry, but...
  24. I understand that nose grease is also used by watchmakers, and apart from the human nose is only found in a certain type of shark (I don't know if this is true, I read it in a Jack Reacher book). Anyway, clean, dry hands work best for me.
