1. Whilst not virtuoso stuff, I think that there are some interesting bass lines from each of the players you mention. The bass lines on the Cult's first album are far busier than on Love or Electric, so I suppose it may come down to 'serving the song'. I would also say that they execute what they do very well (ever heard of a bad AC/DC or Quo gig?), and it is also harder than you think to get the 'feel' right on Quo numbers. Would love to see a Michael Anthony or Cliff Williams bass clinic though.
2. Could listen to him all night. Excellent stuff, thanks for posting.
3. Bump!
4. Looks kind of mid-way between the two to me, so you're both wrong/right!
5. Won tickets to see Motorpsycho tomorrow. Any fans on here?
6. This is one of my faves: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tPTEOpOb844
7.
Blimey... presumably he doesn't go out after dark?
There is a guidebook called 'Home Truths - a Jaunt Around the Decaying Heart of England' that describes Braintree's inhabitants as "the ugliest collection of people in the UK outside Wales" and where "a good number of its female inhabitants resemble sea monsters". And no, I don't go out after dark. It's like an episode of Seventies-era Doctor Who.
8. No. I tend to get 'Braintree singles' and 'Russian dates'.
9. It's funny how many covers bands end up gravitating towards the same stuff, despite the very best of intentions! A difficult lesson I had to learn in a previous band was: if you're not the singer, you are essentially part of the singer's backing band. I believe there are only a few exceptions to this rule.
10. You've got three yesses - you're through to the next round!
11. Being honest, I would like to be able to slap in a tasteless way like a typewriter. I'm sure I'm not alone.
12. Good advice at the start of the Nile Rogers programme on BBC4 on Friday, which was along the lines of: Make sure you enjoy what you do, because at some point you will experience failure
13. Price drop bump!
14. Soundcraft Gigrac mixer and 2 x 500w amplifier. This has just been sitting around for around seven years. I got it checked out/serviced by an electrician at that time, and now all channels/effects are in good working order. Haven't used it in 'anger', though, so can't vouch for how loud it is etc. Dimensions are 20" x 14" x 10". Looking for £50. Collection preferred, or buyer to arrange shipping. However, I would be happy to meet up within a reasonable distance (I am based in North Essex). Pic below.
15. Just sold my Precision to Alberto. Great guy to deal with - prompt communication and payment, and he also arranged the shipping to Spain. A pleasure. Enjoy the bass Alberto!
16. Dweezil Zappa at the South Bank on 10 October!
17. For sale is my first bass, a Westone Thunder Jet, bought new in 1985. 18. It seems that I have recently given up bass playing, as I now just play on the configurator! Getting ready to pull the trigger, but I have a query about the zero fret - does anyone use one of these basses with a Hipshot D-tuner? Is it OK?
19. Hi Geoff. I am near Braintree in Essex.
20. All PMs responded to. Weight is 9lb exactly.
