1. I also noticed that bit of unfortunate editing! I personally get round this problem by always playing really badly. This ensures that I am left alone.
2. Very good, but still prefer the original by Fleur East
3. Will also miss the website and radio station. This seems like bad news for the genre as a whole.
4. Very impressive. I like it. Are you the lovechild of Cliff Burton and Stuart Hamm?
5.
you shouldn't have to adjust the EQ to make it sound the way you want it? I've heard people moaning about playing the Jazz bass on two pickups full and getting lost in the mix... no surprise if you essentially have a very scooped sound and the rest of the band is prominent on lows/highs so you're directly competing rather than fitting in. That gets solved by changing the sound... different pickup balance (adjusting heights slightly differently also has a big effect on how scooped the sound is to start with), different EQ. I don't think the Stingray is that different a case.
The point I was trying to make was that to make the G string more prominent I had to dial in a tone I didn't really want! I also don't think that it was my amp/speaker as I had used various basses with the same set up for 25 years. I'm not slagging of Stingrays, though. In every other respect I really miss mine.
6. I parted company with my Stingray for this reason. I read that it's an issue with the electronics - I would definitely agree with this as acoustically it was fine. Adjusting pick up height didn't appear to help me. Adjusting the EQ helped a bit - but you shouldn't have to do that. Playing with a pick helped a bit - so possibly a technique issue, but again a compromise you shouldn't have to make. In the end I lost patience and went back to Fenders. A great bass in all other respects though.
7. Chris recently bought a speaker cabinet from me. I can echo the above comments about him being a great guy, making the whole transaction simple by coming to collect, and the impressive facial hair! Cheers Chis - hope you have fun with Amanda!
8. Attic storage never harmed mine - and they were up there for years. Maybe I was lucky though.
9. Thanks for the Heads Up. The BoG album always made me feel that Jimi had so much more to give. The only other artist I feel like that about is Jeff Buckley (Hmm this could turn into a whole separate thread...)
10. Once a punter was screaming right in my face, so I gave him a friendly 'tap' with my bass (a Kubicki Ex Factor). He loved it.
11.
Like the guy that wants to talk to you while your playing, I have a rule. No eye contact and ignore him. Blue
This is a pet hate of mine, particularly as I can't hear them, so I tend to mouth "I can't *effing* hear you". Things took a turn for the worse at a recent gig, when the punter responded by typing his request onto his phone. I then said "I can't read that - I'm 47". The next time someone does this to me I'm going to lick their face. I'll let you know how this pans out.
12. I thought Axl was like a breath of fresh air. Apart from arriving on time(!), and nailing the songs, he looked like he was genuinely having the time of his life and 'living the dream'. (but then, who wouldn't if they got that gig)
13.
The band are way past their best imho anyway.
In terms of new material definitely - but, then again, who isn't?
14. AC/DC with Axl were awesome when I saw them in June - even better than with Brian the previous year. I think Cliff's great, but his absence would not stop me going back for more.
15. Downloaded today. I'm really looking forward to reading this.
16.
At 16 it was all about Iron Maiden for me, but then David Lee Roth released 'Eat Em And Smile' the same year, which blew me away!!
Likewise. Although I had just turned seventeen when I heard Yankee Rose on the Casey Kasem American Top 40 radio show, so I left this off my earlier post! At that time my first band was at a low ebb and I was thinking that bass playing may just have been a flash in the pan. Hearing that song changed everything for me.
17. When I was 16, Iron Maiden were my world. I don't recall there being any other bands around at that time!
18. I started playing bass in the 1980s to get in a band and be part of a gang, to get girls, and because I wanted to be Steve Harris. Although those who book my band may perceive me to be a musician, I know in my heart that I am really a pretend pop star (and proud of it).
19. This amp has served me well since it was bought new, and it is still in excellent working order. Hard case and tuner also both in excellent condition. Looking for £200 complete with SKB hard case and Korg DTR1 digital rack mounted tuner as shown in picture. However, also happy to split, say: Amp: £150 Case & tuner: £40 each Details here: http://support.swram...dfs/st220om.pdf http://www.swramps.c...rt/vintage.php/ Collection preferred.
