One day like this - Elbow. Bassline query..
Heathy replied to solo4652's topic in Theory and Technique
I always went for option one, mainly because this makes the outro more impactive. I recall that Elbow's bass player plays a keyboard on this one live. -

This is what I thought of when I saw the post title. Turns out that it's 2018 though.

I liked the MTD Super 5 and the Warwick. It also struck me how much the Yamaha Attitude still sounded like Billy Sheehan with Scott playing it.

So, what music related gifts did we all get today?
Heathy replied to dave_bass5's topic in General Discussion
Mrs H did exceptionally well. I got a EHX Freeze pedal, a Levys strap, the Flea and Tony Iommi autobiographies, and a book by Zappa's former housekeeper. Most other gifts were either grooming or gin related. -
Still waiting for Maiden to play the Olympic Stadium... a 40th celebration of the first album there would have been perfect.

NBD Because those bottles don't open themselves
Heathy replied to Skinnyman's topic in General Discussion
Great! I've got some strap buttons with no bass attached. I'm off! -

What's that thing on the pickguard above the neck pickup. Is it a removable thumb rest? -
Me too. And they were great live. I was sat directly behind JPJ at the Albert Hall when he was playing the keyboards. He plays better bass with his feet than many do with their hands! Can anyone think of any 'supergroups' who exceeded expectations though?

Thanks for posting. This looks like it could be an option for my deluxe precision. Although this does bring with it the added complication of getting a customised pickguard. Any recommendations?

Why didn't this clip ever go viral on Basschat

Annoying singers and how bassists can deal with them
Heathy replied to Cat Burrito's topic in General Discussion
Better results can be achieved with the other end of the bass. -
The Bass Centre was a fantastic place. I went to see a Billy Sheehan clinic there in the early 90's, and the amazing @neilmurraybass was stood behind me in the queue! Pics below (Awww, look at his little face!):

Still the bass for me. Although my first instrument was a Casio keyboard, and I do wish I'd taken that a bit more seriously.

I've never felt like quitting altogether, but have had a couple of periods of downtime. Once of these involved a 'cleansing' exercise, which involved selling everything and buying different stuff. This was a lot of fun as you can imagine.

I love this. It has to be worth re-subscribing to SBL just to see this course!

There was some serious cowbell abuse going on when I saw them do this live a couple of years back.
-
I could say everything in the past 15 years, as my tastes have come full circle. It has been a useful learning experience though, and I have owned some great basses along the way.

Always full up or off for me. An on/off switch would be a better idea. I've not had a bass yet where I felt the volume increased uniformly either.

24/9/91 all three of these were released!
Heathy replied to hiram.k.hackenbacker's topic in General Discussion
Of the three, BSSM had the biggest impact on me at that time, and probably still to this day. The Nirvana one was ok (I like it more now), and Soundgarden completely passed me by. -
Worst and best versions of the same Beatles tunes

This could be the winner in either category. Enjoy: -
I've done this a few times. Always prefer the tone to be honest, but I do miss having air move behind me.

The only thing I've had problems with when using a wireless system was an annoying click coming from the tweeter on a 4x10 cab, which didn't happen when using a lead. Turned the tweeter down; problem solved.
