  1. Past hour
  2. Aleš makes wonderful basses. A friend of mine has a P5 like this (a red one), and says that it’s fantastic. At another time, I’d be all over this, the wrong time though unfortunately. GLWTS Si
  3. Yep, they're branded Neutrik, but I think that's just the plugs. They're made to order but I can't remember where I got this from, maybe someone else can advise. 🙂
  4. Try stuff until I like how it sounds, and realise it will be different for different venues, bands and even tracks. Don't get too cork sniffer about tone.
  5. Bought in the hope i could get away with 30 all valve watts but unfortunately not. Brand new JJ EL84’s fitted and comes with a spare set of EH valves. Really nice amp and tone to die for - if i could have this tone with more power id be in heaven! Collection from Bolton or could do a meet up. Could cut a deal if you want the ABM 4x10 ive also advertised on here. Would consider part ex for a Cali 76 Bass compact

  6. A choice between finishing the bass or a six string ? Oh come on Rob , this is BASSchat . 😁
  7. Sweet. Love to hear a review once you've had a chance to play it. I'd love one or even a 6. Which finish did you get? Sire told me 18mm - I asked them a while back.
  8. This ought to do it for you. 250k pots all round according to Seymour Duncan. And the pot type is typically referred to as a "blend" pot. That ought to help you find one.

  10. The SR5 mould has been completed and this is the neck I've ordered for myself. I'm going to change the dots to something else though.
  11. Update time: Final coats are now drying.
  12. Key areas for consideration. 1. Musical compatibility. 2. Similar level of commitment 3. Personal compatibility. 4. Long term aims.
  13. The detune mode is beautiful on fretless and the possible harmonies on bass look promising........... In my band many of our songs are capo-ed and to change pitch accurately is a real boon!
  14. Your ears continue to grow/change shape and around 4 years is when you'd usually look at replacing moulded IEMs. If "years ago" is longer than that, then it's probably time for fresh ones! I can highly recommend Cosmic Ears. UK based, options at various price points and very good service.
  15. Hi everyone - given the production has moved from 5 necks of each type to 5 necks of any type, I'll keep a running list of order slots here so everyone who has placed a deposit can see what is being worked on and what is coming up and also check the details of the order are correct. Batch 1 - JB4 necks (in progress) 1) @Rich77 - 20 fret PEEK fb, standard dots on front, luminay side dots 2) @Phaedrus01 - 21 fret PEEK fb, standard dots on front, luminay side dots 3) @HeadlessBassist - 20 fret PEEK fb, standard dots on front, luminay side dots 4) @Blartfactor10 - 21 fret PEEK fb, standard dots on front, luminay side dots 5) @WalMan - 21 fret PEEK fb, standard dots on front, luminay side dots Batch 2 - individual orders 1) @Raslee SR4N, 21 fret PEEK fb with MOP dots, luminay side dots 2) @BlueMoon PB4, unlined fretless PEEK fb, no dots, luminay side dots in fret positions 3) @Jo.gwillim JB4, 20 fret PEEK fb w/ abalone dots, luminay side dots 4) Me - SR5N prototype, rosewood fingerboard, some kind of custom fb inlays, luminay side dots...maybe test out fingerboard binding. 5) (SR5N...pending confirmation of logistics to the US.)
  16. And here I was thinking I was the only one with the Schatten mini pre, I use it with my DB's and love being able to adjust volume so easily. I run the NuX from the bass to the mini pre that is mounted on my mic stand using a bracket I made and then it goes by cable to my amp or directly to the PA. Cheap, you can adjust the impedance and it's simple to use, can't get much better than that!
  17. Thank you - I can't find a Bossa bass anywhere in the UK. I have another Bossa guitar that was Brian Monroney's (Tom Jones etc) and it's my #1 💛
  18. Thanks Dave, I hope you guys have a good one too. Yeah, August was slow for me. September has been busy. Daryl
  19. I think DI is the way to go for small venues. I use a pretty basic DI. I wonder if I should shop some of the high end bass DI/ pre-amps with all the bells and whistles. Daryl
  20. The physics of bass notes being an octave lower than guitar means they are more difficult to track and I've not yet found a dedicated pitch shift pedal that works really well on bass, particularly moving more than a couple of semitones. And multifx have, in my experience, been significantly less good than dedicated pedals - certainly the ones I've used. As you say, the drop tuning seems to be excellent for guitar! If it gets comparably close on bass, colour me super interested - having singers who have different vocal registers means that this could be ideal for use with my crew! Although £195 is going to be a decent chunk of change to part with.
  21. There's a high-mid/treble bump that you get from a G&L that's quite reminiscent (to my ears, anyway) of the Wal sound with the pick attack setting activated. It's a lower frequency than the characteristic biting MM "thwp" sound (which is at around 8kHz). That rubbery Wal tone you mention is what you get if you run the filters between about 30-60% - if you run them wide open, you get a flatter sound that a G&L can do a decent facsimile of. To me, the main drawback with a G&L with the L-series electronics is that you only have a 3-position pickup switch and not a proper blend control. I do maintain that a G&L is one of the best rock basses out there though. The M-2000/M-2500 basses had a more conventional blend and 3-band EQ setup, and they had a more MM-like sound - the treble boost was higher up the frequency range. The sound, when dialled just a little off centre, favouring the neck pickup slightly, and scooping the mids a little, was one of the biggest rock bass sounds I've ever come across. I used to own an SB-2 and it was one of the best P-style basses I've ever played.
  22. Me too, that's only a few miles from home. Good choice with a decent car park and local shops close by.
  23. I think you are right. I’m such a silly goose…….I have changed the advert. I think they are big singles.
  24. Small venue tonight so I went DI with one of the 'baby' devices. Struggled all first set until nearly done when I realised the PA on my side had the top turned down. Used it to Bluetooth music to the pa in the interval... then struggled for two songs until I realised it had reset and was on a preset, then I got my sound back. All this combined with gigging flats gor the first time, I couldn't relax and felt awkward. Ironically a bass player in the audisaid I had a really good sound... I just wish I could have heard it better. Conclusion... if I go ampless again, I will need IEMs. But it took me decades to find earplugs I like so... Took me a few minutes to pack away, then 50 minutes helping the others...
