  1. Past hour
  2. Alanis Morissette’s performance was outstanding at Glastonbury 2025 Thank U
  3. In response to OP question, 'does anyone have one', I have several and would happily buy another if required. Agree with lots of what has been written above: try the bass before purchase, try different strings, etc. Never had a problem with the B string on any of my Fenders, but beauty is in the eye of the beholder as they say.
  4. My ‘72 Jazz makes nice noises with TI Jazz flats. Before those it had LaBella DTB Flats.
  5. It's not great is it? Hopefully this won't offend anyone, but the Fodera's I've tried have been so boring sounding it was outrageous that such a well crafted set of instruments would sound so anodyne. Kind of like Dingwalls actually. The type of music Mudvayne make needs what one might call a "character" bass. For example, you play an Alembic, Wal, Status, Warwick and you know exactly what they sound like and what you're going to get. They have definable sonic properties for the most part that you struggle to replicate with other instruments. I was always surprised he went to Fodera as to me, it seemed like a mistake as they're exceptionally well crafted, instruments that sound like nothing.
  6. Weird. There was a thread in Bass Guitars about this (which I assume was posted by the seller), looking for info & advice about the bass. I do know a little about MIJ Squiers so I contributed, but the thread seems to have vanished now. Hope the seller didn't accept £43 for it...
  7. I've had plenty of my ideal gigs back in the day when I was in my mid 20's and lived in Hong Kong and gigged a lot on the ex-pat scene PA & back-line provided, so only needed to carry my gig bag. A busy pub with an appreciative audience who wanted a good time. Free alcohol all night for the band. Decent pay. Spending my gig money in my favorite bar afterwards, usually accompanied by our drummer. The sort with Filipino dancers where you buy them expensive soft drinks for the pleasure of their company. Enough left for a taxi home. For just me in case you were wondering about the above. I'm now much older and drive to gigs so don't drink or go to any bars afterwards.
  8. Nice. I’ll keep an eye out for it if you decide to sell it…. I don’t need another bass of course……
  9. Tell them you have a job . (Full time , long hours ,preferably with HMRC ) Tell them you have a wife . Tell them you have children . When I use all three , it normally allows me an easy exit from a band .
  10. This is literally my dream bass and it's come at the worst timing 😓
  11. Over the years I've tried out a few Fender 5's and thought the sound ranged from great to meh. On the other hand, I don't think I've heard a bad Fender 5 string in a band context. My #1 basses for the last 25 years have been US Lakland, Mike Lull and Sadowsky. I wouldn't rule out buying a Fender 5er if I found a good one. Fender's problem is that it's easier to find better 5 string basses from other manufacturers.
  12. I've played mainly LaBella flats for about 15 years. When I (rarely) switch to my Ibanez with rounds I find I've become really sloppy with finger placement, sliding between notes and preventing fret buzz. Flats seem to be better (for me anyway) at hiding poor technique. I need to do some work for a couple of hours to get roundwounds sounding tight and precise. Maybe I should do it more often...
  13. Awaking this thread from the dead a little. Mudvayne have released their first new song in the "Ryan Fodera" era. For me, it's awful, but notably the bass is absolutely missing in the mix, all the signature Ryan playing, if its still happening, is buried. Is this a very odd shift in mix approach, or do his Fodera's just not have any of that mix cutting Thumb character? Not unexpected, but a real shame.
  14. Then by this parameter I guess I hate tbe sound of the high C string. How that belongs on an instrument known for providing low end is beyond me.
  15. Pete bought a gig bag off me this week. Paid promptly, good comms, a pleasure sir! Deal with confidence. Cheers, Rob
  16. Would it be sensible to do a private message welfare check on those who are "Still In" 🙂 ?
  17. ...and yet as someone who has an entirely analogue board the appeal of a pedal with a familiar shape and a few extra tricks up its sleeve for occasional use is appealing... never even been remotely tempted by the Line6 stuff as too much scrolling...
  18. Tone , volume , and a baritone switch , that gives it a little top and mid boost. Makes it a bit brighter.
  19. Bought a Reunion Blues gig-bag from Rob this week. Excellent communication throughout and package arrived exactly as described in what can only be described as bullet-proof packaging. Trade with Rob with utmost confidence. A credit to Basschat in my book. Snorkie635
  20. Well, they're on the bass now ('73 Precision). They are going to take some getting used to after playing flats for a long time! Also had to have the neck off and tweak the truss rod, as well as action and intonation. I've stuck a bit of foam under the strings by the bridge to lessen the difference until I get used to them. I got a message last night asking if I was free to be house bass at a funk jam tonight, so I'm thinking of taking this bass. Nothing like being dropped in at the deep end! This is potentially 2 hours of playing, so that should give me some idea. Rob
  21. You’re trying to drive your audience away? Why exactly would a bass solo help ?
  22. 99% off bass solos suck. Jaco Pastorius bass playing isn't enjoyable. Better to study and learn then listen to for enjoyment.
  23. It’s interesting how at various times Zoom and Eventide have tried the “buy the hardware and then paid software add ons” - which in theory should work - but in practice people just want to buy a thing and have all of it.
