I'd agree with the above, there must be an issue with the unit. Complete aside, but how similar does the Mighty Plug in Aguilar mode sound to the MLD preamp in the same setting? I have the Mighty Plug, love it and particularly their version of the Aguilar Sim, but I was thinking about picking up the MLD too. If it sounds similar I think that will tip it!

A bit late, but Thursday's Jam Night was good. We were on shortly after 9 followed by the band I depped for the previous Saturday (Matt Guntrip and the Roadsters). Matt and said Roadsters hadn't heard us play before. A few of my mates also came down, some of them for the 1st time The pub manager told the guitarist he'd had a few people asking about us and offered us a Friday slot if we want one. So I guess we either played well, or played songs people liked, or both.

Indeed, the best bass I bought for 260 quid will pay for a few holidays for my eldest when she gets her mitts on it (and I have no more use for it).

I'll happily forgo a fancy holiday for a lovely bass I will treasure for a life time. Each to their own eh?

But are you talking about Batt-O-Meter by Keith McMillen or any multimeter? I tested them connected in the bass, in my American Deluxe Jazz Bass, and voltage was 14,60V, without disconnecting the batteries. I disconnected both, and the voltage was 8.17V in both. So, it's not a good idea to test batteries connected to active previous? I wanted to test them without openning the tap.

Actually I think there's a small amount of cut in the bass control as well. About 80/20 IIRC. It's a "spirit of the law, letter of the law" thing. The control is actually boost only, but the whole circuit has a lot of bass loss, so you can still use the bass control to cut bass by not boosting as much, My point was just that it doesn't really matter where flat is, I'm still turning the controls until it sounds good.

I'm a fairly casual player these days, absolutely no classical aspirations, I either dip into the local free improv scene or play in folky acoustic or singer/songwriter type situations. I do bow a certain amount though, either for more melodic parts, textural stuff in improv or to work on my intonation when practicing. I play German bow and have had the same no-name wooden student bow for about 20 years now, a fairly generic Chinese one. I've had it rehaired in that time, but it's quite a bit overdue for another. Though I did some DIY repairs to it during lockdown in 2020 (when everything was shut) just to keep practicing- the tip facing has been reattached with CA glue and the wedge at the tip is a homemade replacement I whittled from a piece of maple scrap. I don't if those plus the low value of the bow might make it marginal for another rehair. I could look at a new bow, but in my budget it would be a <£200 student bow. There are probably more options today than when I got this one, but that's still not getting me into nice bow territory by a long way. I'd probably be looking at things like the Vingobow from China, importer brands like Gewa, possibly the P&H carbon bow, or I think Bassbags have Romanian made student bows. I know there's a rehairer just a couple of miles away from me, I could possibly drop in with my bow and see if they think it's viable for a rehair. But I'd be curious to hear the opinions of the Basschat massiv.

Oh, good shout, probably best avoid that weekend then - place will be hoaching with tourists probably in a sort of mini version of how Edinburgh gets with the Fringe.
