  1. Past hour
  2. This one was for me. Chuck Rainey's part for 'Haitian Divorce' from the 1973 Steely Dan album, 'The Royal Scam'. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/haitian-divorce-steely-dan/
  3. The Stinger pickup sounds so good, that I fitted it in the Seafoam Green P-Bass, my 2 tone burst bass, and i have a spare pickup in my spares stash. The pickup is expensive (cost me around £185 including import taxes, but when you find something which works so well, you want to use it over and over again.
  4. Apparently no good for jazz basses (according to two reviews on Amazon) shame if that's the case.
  5. He always sounds like that.
  6. Thanks. I have a few preamps I will be putting up for sale over the next few days.
  7. No, wait. I can procrastinate a little longer, I could move the existing pickup's wiring to go through the selector switch and the switch output to the volume pot. Needs doing anyway...
  8. Amazing the amount of overdrive/fret-buzz & rattling there is in the original.
  9. We play this. Can't say I'm ever particular about getting the tone 100%. We only have guitar, bass and drums. No one has ever said to me "Great song, but you need to be playing a jazz with the bridge pickup on full". Play hard. In fact, we get people up and singing along to this without fail.
  10. 50 minute afternoon spot at Ellesmere Port Summer Jam today. Only our third ever gig. It's a slow ball to get rolling right now but we're getting there. We all use IEM straight into the desk. It always sounds fine at rehearsal but I need to do more work on my gig mix as it's never as well defined. Played well, pretty happy all round. Sun came out and people listened. Nice things were said afterwards. Unfortunately the wrestling show had finished by the time we got off stage sonny plans for a top turnbuckle band pic were scuppered. Here's a little phone clip of Macy Gray. Of course, our friends & family managed to catch the bit where I trip over my lead, nearly stack it then hit the wrong note. 11. These are super heavy, but they are THE best bass combo ever made in my humble opinion. I've had two in the past and £200 for one of these with the tone and flexibility (and volume!) is super cheap... If I didn't have an Eden WT1205 and 610 cab (and live in Essex) I'd have taken this.
  12. Selector switch arrived today, so it's big drill time - no pressure, yay! Going super careful, I put masking tape over the hole and its edges, then went up 1mm at a time from 9 to 12mm. Despite the tape, I did chip the finish a little in one place around the hole, but thankfully not a big bit and hidden by the dress washer. Attack a perfectly nice bass with this monster using a hand drill? No, it wasn't scary at all, lol. Unfortunately, that's all the "easy" jobs done. Next step is to make a template for my pickup route, then take a big, deep breath and attack the front of the body with forstner bits and a router.
  13. The Anadime was the next choice - in fact it was the first choice and I'd been hunting for one for a while, but one never showed up, then this got me excited. I'd used an Anadime before at a bass bash and thought it was very pretty sounding. I tend to use chorus more for that tool-like swirling vibe than the classic 80's use (with bass at least) and this seems to nail it perfectly. It seemingly adds a layer that just makes everything sound awesome. Excited to experiment with it over the next week or so.
  14. The Devil Made Me Do It - The Golden Earring
  15. OK. I've listened to that and in my opinion that song works really well arrangement-wise amd sounds really tight with nothing wrong. So I went in search of more examples and found a live one from a few months ago. Others can search if they're that bothered. 1. The keyboard player has a full size 7 octave stage piano! 😳 In the video I've watched they're really bashing out the same notes as the bass, with double octaves. I think they're used to playing alone and have a bit to learn about ensemble work. In that situation the keys needs to chill, absolutely no need for those notes, and playing like that will clutter up the sound space because they won't be exactly in time, and any 'groove' (playing ahead or behind the beat) from the bass player will be lost. Especially when the drums are joining in. I suspect the video you have posted was recorded with protools and has had all the notes quantized and aligned. So live it probably sounds quite a 'mess', and that's probably more the problem. So yes, get the bass and keys to meet up separately from the rest of the band and have a sensible chat about bottom end arrangements. Is that a 5-string bass there as well?
  16. musical is good for a pedal, I picked up an Anadime chorus and had it at the same time as the Tech21 bass boost chorus - the Tech21 could do more - the Anadime just was more musical - good effects don't sound like effects - just glued on change in tone
  17. Looks like we're doing this album after the Pixies, never sure if it's a good thing to listen to the isolated bass line of your fave track
  18. Every time I see this I have to quickly close down my browser. 🥵
  19. Of all the things I'm having to dispose of, this one hurts the most. It's time for my Metro to move on to pastures new. This is a 1999 model, with a maximum output of 600 watts into a 4-ohm load. It's not pristine, far from it, but it's served me well. It's had a couple of mods - the crossover plate has been replaced with one that allows cabs to be daisy-chained and the castor holes on the bottom have been plugged. Eden cover and footswitch included. It'll need to be collected from Edinburgh, as it's too heavy to courier. Any questions, please ask.
  20. Satan Is A Lawyer - Gojira
  21. If you go into amazon and search Kinsman wooden guitar stand, you'll find it.
  22. I've been on a quest for a chorus for some time. I moved from stand lone to a multi for modulation, but regretted it. I've been through a lot of chorus pedal over the years and just had an urge to try something different - something that doesnt go with my usual needs. This video convinced me: I've been playing with it for a few hours and it's insanely musical. On both bass and synth (I have a Moog Sub 25) it's honestly stunning.
  23. Really hoping I can make it this year! Diary is clear at present, but will have to confirm closer to the time. May bring eldest son too, as he is now also a bass player!
  24. I got the Mvave today but not sure I'll keep it. For one im now used to not using a cab sim with headphones, the EBS has a pretty good tone on its own, but another reason is the IR's I like seem to have a slight phase issue. They seem to have a very subtle hollowness about them. Also there is quite a big drop in high freqs. I will have a play with the EQ section (and the Hi Cut is full up/off), but the sparkle is gone. Still great value and I might keep it just incase I need it at some point, as the cost was pretty much nothing.
  25. niceeeee. I'ld love to try some of his pedals! (His being Horrothia's, though Pantherairsoft you've probably got some nice ones too!)
