So , it will depend on the finish of the bass itself , Poly / VS Nitro ... i would avoid trying to stick anything on Nitro finishes ... that way lies ruin. I've had pretty good results with this Clear mounting tape then cleaning off any residue with Isopropyl alch but this was on THICK Glossy 90's Poly on an old Aria .... I think kiwi's carpet tape solution looks like it might work pretty well too ... Again clean off residue . with Iso or non acetone based nail polish remover

I've never tried using an adhesive to secure a pickguard but I have changed a few and I would say that they don't always sit flush to the body prior to being screwed down. It may need to be fairly strong adhesive to stop the edges rising up over time.

It depends on what kind of finish you have on your bass. I've found nitro cellulose can be fairly reactive with even the EVA foam rubber in guitar stands! If your bass is finished in poly eurathane (aka poly) then it should be relatively safe. I would suggest using carpet tape because it contains a textile weave which allows it to be pulled off in one piece. Luthiers use it all the time for sticking down routing templates.

2025 SE Bass Basheroonie! Sunday 9/11/25 *CONFIRMED*
Phil Starr replied to NancyJohnson's topic in Events
If anyone wants to build the 8" design it is here. It works as it is but we are tweeking the design by a couple of mm to make panel cutting a bit easier. the designs should be tweaked in the next few days. Heaven knows how BassChat chose a pic of a different cab to show -

Hi guys, I'm thinking of putting a pickguard on my bass that has never had a pickguard and I don't want to go drilling holes in it, I've seen some pickguard material that is self adhesive, has anyone ever used this? I'm just concerned that if I take it off it could have ruined the paint. Thanks in advance. Terry G

The E140 was rated at 200w. The problem with pairing it with the 2515 is that their T/S specs are wildly different. As for sealed versus ported, with sealed you give up about an octave of low frequency extension and take a huge hit on excursion as well. Besides that neither the JBL nor 2515 have specs that work well sealed. The net volume of the cab is probably closer to 200L, so by no means is it too large for two fifteens.

I love Indonesian Squier basses -fantastic basses for not much money. My favourite flavour is the P/J, but this is a lovely looking thing. While I love tort plates, I think the pearloid plate works really well here. Good work fella!

Anyone else done a hard reset?
christhammer666 replied to bassist_lewis's topic in General Discussion
i stopped playing 2 years ago when my dad died. it wasnt an intentional reset but it happened and i had my first jam a couple of weeks ago. my forearm was sore for days but i thoroughly enjoyed it -
I did a Tru-Oil finish on an Xotic bass a while back and can really recommend this approach. Wet sand with tru-oil will grain fill, and it's doesn't take long to start seeing some true lustre come through.

I seem to be using amps on stage less and less and this seems to be sitting around in my music room, plus add on fewer gigs for me in the interim due to personal reasons - I think it's time this went to a better home. QSC K12.2 - excellent condition and no issues. Comes with the tote bag and the locking power cable (although this is quite a short one - always meant to get a longer one!) No box or manual I'm afraid. I have a PA speaker box so will be able to look at postage but collection is preferred for obvious reasons. Postage with insurance won't be cheap in this instance. Amazing bit of kit for the FRFR route, extremely powerful and I ran it with my Microbass 3 and it gave me a punchy modern sound. I would also use it (very occasionally) as a vocal monitor as well. Presets built in for bass, this is very much the mack daddy of speakers used for bass if you are looking for a FRFR solution. The times I did use it, in front of me, wedged up, it was simple to set up, sounded great and had PLENTY of everything a bass player needs on stage. If I start doing regular gigs down the line again on stage, I will definitely be returning to one of these. I will add pictures later this evening when I get home, I jus wanted to get it listed - I won't bother adding stock pictures (it's easy to find online) and if you are looking then you know what these are and how good they are. I will highlight any scuffs or marks with pictures. I am looking to put the money into a new bass - in particular a 5 string Sadwosky Modern or Cort GB5 Modern (or something similar...) obviously I will add cash to the deal. Carl

I have two used Spector USA bass bridges that once belonged to NS2 basses I no longer own, I had taken these off in favour of black hardware. One is the heavy all-brass version, this has faded somewhat on the bass side. I’m not sure if this could be polished up. The other is the lighter, aluminium version, this one in better condition. It is considerably lighter. Note: these will not drop into a Euro bass without some re-routing to enlarge the space slightly. £150 for each bridge or £285 for the pair. Price includes UK shipping.

Nothing says 80s/90s tone more to me than a Warwick (Thumb/Streamer/Corvette) into a Trace Elliot (the bigger the better!).

I now know someone in Coalville m1 j22 who is ridiculously talented he built his own cello from raw lumber and builds/plays double bass. details on request

I the early 2000s I joined a band where I felt fretless bass would go well. To test this out I bought a cheap defretted Wesley Acrylic bass off eBay which told me I was right. After something a bit better and being somewhat short of funds at the time I was attracted to the Squier VMF Jazz which had received nothing but positive reviews in the musical instrument press and plenty of love on the bass forums. I played one for about an hour sitting down in the shop and it seemed perfect. Unfortunately once I got it home I discovered it wasn't as suitable for me as I thought. I wasn't used to Fender-style basses, up to that point my greeted basses had been a Gus G3, Overwater Original and a short scale Burns Sonic, and so I wasn't prepared for how relatively large it was and how badly it hung on the strap on my small body. I couldn't reach the G-string tuner without shifting how it hung. Even the 36" scale Overwater felt more ergonomic and well-balanced in comparison. The biggest problem was that it sounded weedy compared with all mu other basses including the £60 Wesley and the ancient Burns Sonic. I bought a Badass Bridge for it, which tightened up the tone somewhat but didn't make it any less weedy sounding. I then fitted a J-Retro pre-amp which gave me lots more tonal control from the bass but didn't make it sound any chunkier. I was seriously considering going back to playing the Wesley, when I spotted a Pedulla Buzz for sale which I could afford, and which for me was everything the Squier was not, and which was my main fretless bass until I finally received my custom-built Sei Flamboyant.

I am delighted to see that you have rediscovered the joy of bass with your much-missed Suhr. They are top quality instruments, and an active Jazz Bass like that really can do it all. May you get much pleasure from playing it. That said, may I offer some well-meant but unsolicited life advice without causing offence? It's just that now your financial and domestic situation has eased a bit I would strongly recommend putting some thought and planning into how to improve things even more in that respect going forwards. That might mean holding off a bit before putting financial resources into buying many more basses. Take it from me my friend, there isn't a bass in the world that is more important than a stable and happy home for you and yours. I am speaking from personal experience when I say that we all need a safe haven in this world, and no bass, however nice, will provide that for you. I know it's none of my business, but there, I've said it anyway.🙂

I've had a few breaks. I quit my last band about 14 months ago as it was becoming very stale - I couldn't influence it was organised by the local educational music trust. The new arrangements were dull and kind of were a reflection on the band leader rather than what everyone actually wanted to play. It started to kill my desire to play at all so I knew I had to go. I didn't play at all for at least 3 months, didn't even get a bass out of a gigbag. Then I started noodling a bit and playing along to CDs but that wasn't really doing it for me either. But now I find myself writing original stuff again and that is definitely flexing a different set of mental muscles. I play bass, guitar, a bit of sax and I can sing (although painfully out of practice) so I'm doing that. I have no desire to gig at the moment, but I'm enjoying the creative process. My favourite band format is the power trio, or maybe the usual guitar, bass, drums with a singer who can occasionally join in with another instrument so I'm writing with that approach. I like the space and the easy dynamic changes that come from having fewer instruments. A change has definitely been as good as a rest for me.

Thanks Guys, loads of pointers there. In fact I like Option 1 AND Option 2. Not sure if we can have too many Cabs knocking about? I'm handy with wood so will get some exact measurements of the present Fender Cab, which I do have the urge to tidy up, cosmetically and functionally. i'll get another Deltalite Ordered and pop it in. I did try the 9 volt trick on the phase of the present cabs and matched them up. So I dont think the farting is that. Possibly pushing the mismatched speakers? Delta was 5.6 Ohm and the Fender/JBL 7.9 Ohm which I found odd. "Eminence Deltalite II 2515 - 15" 300W 8 Ohm. Recommended Enclosure Volume: Sealed 42.5-48 liters, Vented 51-119 liters." Rough dims for Fender CAB: "The volume of an object measuring 45.5 inches by 30 inches by 11.5 inches is approximately 256.77 litres." Such a thing as too much volume? Sould I seal up or go vented on the Fender Cab and what are the pro's and cons? From googling the Dual Showman, its pushing 100watts ish so 'shouldnt' blow anything? But it does all feel a bit wonky and it doesnt inspire confidence to push the volume. The speaker is for practice and recording so wont be humping the beast anywhere in a hurry. I've been playing with the crosssover in a Quad Cortex which is giving interesting results. Splitting the frequencies, high and low pass, to various amps. The flapping of my flares is an added bonus.
