  1. Past hour
  2. I was surprised...friend suggested that his was too heavy to gig...
  3. John Goldsby Jazz Bass Book - very good I sort of need to buy another one - my present one is beaten badder than a novice member of Opus Dei
  4. I knew Steve Berry was talented, but not this talented!
  5. Might need two sets then!😁
  6. The bass gallery have a wall full of fender basses. You’d easily find one there that suits you, and hopefully in your budget.
  7. it's a great thing to be able to play with thumb, fingers and plectrum I use an EQ pedal live sometimes or Compression / Limiting - it's set for what technique I use the least - stomp on
  8. Stingray sounds gorgeous with Cobalts. And so does P-bass.
  9. Request time! Can you do play by magazine? I'd come!
  10. Thanks mate. I've ordered a set (45-105) and will see how they sound. Guess it also depends which bass I put them on! Thinking P Bass or Stingray.
  11. Friend of mine had to stop playing due to arthritis, he changed his diet, lost a lot of weight and his arthritis eased right off, he's back playing again, I don't know the full ins and outs but it might be worth investigating? ...also, this is a stunning instrument!
  12. one appeared on the NZ auction site a few years back - South Korea made
  13. Invercargill BassChat has Victor Bailey Jazz Bass - I have always thought they look the business @basshead56
  14. did you upload the Diamond Comp video?
  15. It looks really fun, but the sound demos I've heard don't appeal; it's too cutting or shrill for my tastes.
  16. Have you experimented with where on the string you pluck or pick - as in, down near the bridge, right up over the fretboard, or somewhere in between? That can make a huge difference in tone.
  17. I played the Monaco at the last SE Bash which was now some time ago. It was really good as I used the TE1200 and @Merton ACG. I hope this doesn't constitute a thread derail, but I'm curious about a few things. Are there any bigger cabs in the works? Like a 2x12? Also, as the crossover point seems to be very low and in the 1.5kHz region, how does one mic the cab to record it? All the snap and attack will be from the horn. Just curious really.
  18. These are great strings, and the most opinions are sort of positive. But it depends on your technique, your mood, weather, and moon phase whether you like their sound or not. Give it a try, otherwise you'll never know.
  19. Just done a recent bass trade with Ben. All good and a trustworthy bass chatter - deal with confidence.
  20. Of course, one of the "interesting" things Fender do to muddy the waters is that the specs always tend to vary across the ranges - the neck shapes are different, different finishes, etc. so it's not that straightforward to directly compare them. I do think at some point in my future I'm going to go on a quest to try some "expensive" Fender J basses and I'm genuinely not sure what to expect. I do worry that none of them will match up the awesome cheapo Vintage (JHS) jazz bass that @mcnach stupidly sold me, then I stupidly sold back to him, then I think he stupidly sold it to someone else 😝
  21. This piece is usually classified as a "zamba", an Argentinean folk music genre (not to be confused with Brazilean "samba", way more popular worldwide). The song is called "Alfonsina y el mar". Hope you like it.
  22. I've got one, it's actually a decent bass, sounds good with it's Powersound pickups. I paid the princely sum of feck all, probably worth a bit more but not much.
  23. It's Firewood. Well - 5-string version of the same thing, for sale in Slovakia. And here's one in Poland. I'll stop now. I think the light's attracting them.
  24. I gigged my sub £1k Mexican Player Plus Jazz V just last night and it did everything I needed it to do. Would it have done more if it was a £4k Custom Shop model? I vote no. I like my Fender but at heart I'm a Warwick fan.
  25. I've always liked a pickguard on a pickguard, especially if they're both machined from a half inch thick slab of plastic with a beaver held by the tail, a la Flintstones.
