  1. Past hour
  2. Not a specific tone, as the Electric Bass was a natural progression from classical Cello & Double Bass, but the early playing tone I really latched onto was John 'Rhino' Edwards' Status-Graphite tone from Status Quo's "Ain't Complaining" album. Later, it was Mark King's glassy tone from his early KingBasses with Trace Elliott rig. Much later, I really got into the richly scooped Jazz Bass sound, from such players as Jaco Pastorius, Will Lee & Marcus Miller.
  3. Lovely stuff. What a band. And Martha, as well as being a great singer, was a bit gorgeous, wasn't she?
  4. Ended up with the above after looking at and listening to several practice amps. For a small combo it has a lot of bass. It is actually almost a mini PA system and reminds me very much of my old Ashdown acoustic amp, but with less controls. Bluetooth music sounds okay from my iPhone, almost good actually. To get a decent snappy crisp bass tone with plenty of presence and definition and any kind of decent jazz bass growl I still need to use my valve preamp, but it sounds better than my small recording guitar cab which is what I was using. Although, one of the reviews I saw on facetube, it had a lovely growly tone with just a passive jazz bass with the tone control wide open, so it might just be my Sire bass has less oomph. Nice quality and solid construction. No nasty vibration or rattles even at full volume. Think I will be getting one of the Ashdown new British made 100 watt single 10 combos. They have valve crunch built in to the preamp. Whenever I make a purchase of a significant bit of gear i never get it right first time, but then the grass is always greener………
  5. @knicknack [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Get Mark to blanket email the above executive contacts within Parcelforce. I had a similar issues some years ago (bass of higher value as it goes). After a good number of emails back and forth with the above contacts (firm but diplomatic from my side) they eventually offered a 'goodwill' gesture that covered the costs of the lost instrument. They didn't admit any guilt, but their 'goodwill' gesture covered my losses. Worth a go, so long as you approach them with a firm, respectful and diplomatic email and tone of voice, often they do capitulate. Hope this gets resolved. Russ.
  6. It might just be knocking around a depot somewhere. Years ago I had a bass that went missing for a couple of days (my Zoot in a massive Warwick flight case) which was shipped via PF24 or whatever it was called then. The only reason it made its way to me within the same week was our Parcel Force guy (I worked for a mail order company that used PF almost exclusively at the time) spotted it leaning up against a wall, recognised he'd delivered waaaaaay to many similarly shaped boxed to me and checked the label. So really the moral of the story is the more basses you buy the safer you are.
  7. Yes sunburst with tort. The colour scheme of champions this is nice too
  8. Thank you…..you don’t see the swearing, sweat and tears.
  9. Is there a finer colour scheme?
  10. Still only done that 1 gig in 2023 and literally only brought out when I need to learn a new song for the band which isn't that often.
  11. Moog Minitaur Bass Synth Module This is the up to date v 2.2 edition, comes complete with box, PSU and manuals. Lovely two oscillator synth specifically voiced for bass but can produce lead sounds too. The ladder filter is classic Moog with weight and width to the oscillators. It is a US made synth - Moog has since changed ownership and now mainly manufactured in the far east. The Minitaur is well constructed in a pressed steel case with nice positive action on all buttons and knobs. It is based on the classic Moog Taurus bass pedals of the 70’s as used by Rush, Genesis, Yes and more. All works as it ought to with plenty of control via the front panel, also presets and the ability to hook up to a computer and fine tweak sounds via free Moog software. The module is in excellent condition albeit with some cosmetic ‘rack rash’ on the sides of the unit. UK only, I’d prefer pick up in person but can post at buyer’s expense.

  12. The best Ashdown cab I ever had was the BP1510, with 2 10"s and a 15" in a tall-ish enclosure. They haven't made it in quite some time now though. I've been running mine into a Barefaced BT2 and I have no complaints. I did get to try Ashdown's Rootmaster 2x12" cab from a few years back, and it sounded good, but couldn't handle all that much power on its own. I'd quite like to try a pair of them and see what that sounds like. I've just got hold of a RM800 Evo III, and, sadly, it's the first piece of Ashdown gear I've had a problem with - something's up with the input gain (not sure if it's the knob or something else), so that's going to have to go back. I've had the original and Evo II versions (the Evo II is my workhorse) and never had any issues, so it's a bit disappointing. Their stuff is usually absolutely bulletproof in my experience. Should have held out for the new UK-produced version, really.
  13. Lined, with a polyester coating like on a Pedulla, so it can withstand the abrasion of roundwound strings. It's a light one, too. Weighs about 8 pounds. Lakland CEO John Pirrucello sorted it out for me.
  14. Is it your clothing or footwear causing static build up? Try taking your clothes and shoes off and playing. NB: not in the rehearsal room, or with the curtains open.
  15. Yes - Foxton on Eton Rifles was sensational.
  16. I have just purchased a boss BC-1X Compressor from Mark. Very smooth transaction, great communications, and prompt delivery: deal with confidence. Thanks Mark.
  17. I'll be bringing fretless and fretted @Jabba_the_gut short scales, QSC K12.2, Grace Design Alix.
  18. Sold (traded!) - subject to a late night meeting in a service station car park on the M4! 🤪
  19. They're also wonderful to play. After playing my '87 JD Thumb, I just had to have it, even though it cost about six times what I got for my tatty Precision in part exchange.
