The more I look at BD's description..... 1962 Fender Precision Bass for sale, this bass plays beautifully but is made up of a few different parts. Replacement alder body, originally had a bridge pickup too (filled and refinished in Sherwood Green) 1962 Fender neck, had an ebony fretless fingerboard fitted at some point, but now wears a rosewood fingerboard, there is evidence of the fretless side dots on the neck now. Non original pots, non original pickguard. The more I wonder how they can possibly be asking £4.5k. 1. Replacement alder body, I assume if it was vintage Fender they'd say so, in which case we're talking a few hundred quid max 2. Had an ebony fretless fingerboard fitted is only relevant if some of that fingerboard is still in place underneath (I assume) the reosewood, that renders the neck value very low also. 3. Nor original pots and pickguard, again a few quid. It's odd that they don't make any mention of PUP originality which would be a factor, as well as tuners. But even if everything other than 1-3 were original, am I being too harsh in suggesting that it's a £1500 instrument tops, and that's in part because it looks bloody lovely?

I went inter-railing twenty odd years ago and one of our favourite things to do in Eastern Europe was to learn about the local saints and martyrs, and figure out what relics they had at the church (and hopefully get to see them). It wasn't a debauched trip, but that's the life I lead.

What does that monster weigh? Is it on wheels and motorised?

Out of curiosity what are the expected marks in a pickup cavity for a 60’s Fender?
-
yes, it's also possible to control multiple parameters simultaneously - e.g. I have an overdrive patch where the expression pedal controls the amount of overdrive, blend, eq settings and volume all in one sweep. Dead easy to set up too.
-
They vary, often stickier vinyl, or the same as the front - some are grippier. I have another two that aren't shown in that picture, one is pretty sticky
-
Interesting picture from 1963. Appears to show a bass with a Precision body but with an early Precision style neck - but dark fingerboard (guy standing next to Ringo).

My updated fretless pedalboard. 1. TC Electronic Tuner 2. Boss OC5 Octave 3. Harley Benton Custom Line Chorus 4. Walrus Audio Slo Reverb 5. Mooer Ambient A7 Reverb 6. Sonicake Boost 7. Ampeg Optical Compressor 8. Sansamp BDDI V2 Preamp Super happy with this and it sounds amazing. The only thing I would like to try for a possible change is replace the two reverb pedals with a Strymon Cloudburst. I'm happy with these two reverbs but the Cloudbust has a few features I would like to try out and still does what my current reverb pedals do.

Why can't you?

It's possible to put a refin body in a time frame by marks in the neck pocket or pickup cavities, and the dowel/pin holes that should be in the right place. The dowel holes on my refin are visible through the finish and otherwise a blacklight would point them out.

Can't believe this hasn't been snapped up yet!! These are excellent basses. I've had one and also the much more expensive Music Man version. To be honest there wasn't that much difference in terms of playability and the sounds were slightly different but IMHO equally good. In fact, there are some Talkbass members who prefer the 'voice' of the SBMM. AND I think the black/tort combo really looks the business. Add to that the lightweight tuners to counterbalance the very light body weight of this one (mine was heavier)... If I had the spare cash right now I'd be buying this. GLWTS.

Absolutely love that violet - could I ask who performed the respray?

A busy weekend for Nine Lives, two shiny new (to us) venues to play! Saturday it's the North Bar in Peterhead, Sunday it's the Pittendrum Bar in Sandhaven.

We are! A combination of the height at which I wear the bass and my own physiology I suspect but Schallers just don’t work for me - I tried the newer version but with the same result. Both my Shortys have Dunlop Dual pins. For security, I double over the ends of the Comfort Strapp, then add the rubber washer. This prevents any forward swivel and provides a bit of solidity and stability. I still have Schallers on the ‘bic shorties but only play seated - strap balance is a joke (again, preference and physiology - I’m sure they’re fine for many players). Here’s the Shortys - a rare day of strong sunshine up here
-
Yes it's (probably) a set of '62 pickups, some hardware and half a neck. Proudly listed as a 1962 Fender. Totally ridiculous to list it like that imo.

I remember solid-state plug-and-play valve alternatives advertised in guitar magazines back in the 80's. For the life of me I can't remember the brands behind them. BK Butler, or Seymour Duncan or someone! I wonder if this new product is a variation like those by AMZ or Soundsmith? **EDIT - Yellow Jackets! Such as a 6L6 / EL34 alternative, my brain cell came up with the goods today!

Yeah... We played with them at the Dopethrone gig and they're really good and a nice bunch of guys. Their logo is like a magic eye though. You've got to know what you're looking for!

Is that what it says?

I’d prefer not to choose a photo ta, so that leaves 2 😊
