  1. Past hour
  2. A very quick comparison between a Z3, a modern Ray and vintage Ray.
  3. I’m up against mr travis and his all-consuming GEAR maw no chance, I see that bass being dragged to a Manchester address, probably leaving scratch marks on the pavement as it is sucked in like some poor dachshund caught in a wizard of Oz style tornado Briefly. 😛 I Wish I could buy this. GLWTS
  4. Pity it has guitar string spacing, more or less...
  5. Okay chums, further price drop: now £60 including p & p in the UK. These are a good set of Fender pickups with some nice midrange poke to them. Grab yourself a bargain! 😜
  6. Open to trades with cash my way...
  7. Amazing enough to become your new avatar? 🤭
  8. Feeling below par so somehow got distracted by Teen Town (again). I've learnt the first section but there are a few bars I can't get up to speed, but it gets a little better with each attempt.
  9. I've taken several Double Bass pupils through the Bach Suites - the short answer is no. You won't be able to stretch your hand enough to be able to use one finger per semitone on a fretted bass, especially for the broken chords. Some of the Double Bass editions are published in different keys to the Cello version, but I've always found it best to use the original keys and bring the low C's and D's up the octave for the odd occasion you need them. They seem to fit better under the fingers in the original keys, particularly for Double Bass. That way, it's only me that has a brain issue, as the suites are programmed into my head in Cello fingering and now we're playing it on Double Bass/Electric Bass tuned in 4ths. Aaargghh!
  10. all loaded PA for the guest speakers.........................check Harry White 4003.........................check Warwick Reverso Adam Clayton............check Ashdowm RM500 + Mark bass 1x15 and sansamp svt pedal (a must for the HW4003) and for those of you into electric cars, MG4 too lol
  11. I’ve spent hours ever day on my Dingwall. It’s incredible. Its such an amazing thing.
  12. Erm...from a Jazz Bass?
  13. I just got management advice from my 17yr old stepdaughter for showing my wife a picture of a bass and describing it as “sexy”! 😂🙈

  14. Thanks, itu. Appreciated. I was contemplating the cheap Thomann fretless Beat Bass, £175, just for trying the project out, fingering-wise. I've already recorded first three suites on a tenor and cello-banjo, so have experience of CGDA. Cello-banjo:
  15. The emoji at the end of my sentence is a clue? Anyway it's funk all to you but to some individuals it will matter.
  16. I quit for 4yrs at the tender age of 27yrs old, because I felt that I was getting too old. I cringe thinking about it now but I needed to get my career and life in general kickstarted a lot more. I had always promoted my bands so had less time than band mates who were getting on with their lives away from music. I felt invigorated coming back. The pressure to “make it” was off and I have since worked in groups where someone else does the behind the scenes stuff. Ironically, I feel that I have had far more success in my later years. It is never wrong to stop or have a timeout when the mood suits. I have scaled back in the last year or so as the multiple band life was causing me a mild amount of stress. So, a soft reboot, of sorts.
  17. Not hate but relentless disappointment. Up until I decided enough was enough, every single Jazz bass I ever bought or tried out, including a super light and resonant Mex RW which seemed very good but I just cannot get on with the shape and the constant knob twiddling looking for that P bass thump which for me just isnt there.
  18. We’ll have to agree to disagree etc. no issue in my neck of the woods .
  19. I was referring to the dispersion of the woofer, not the high frequency element. One of the main shortcomings of many twelve and fifteen inch loaded PA tops is they tend to cross over to the HF element at too high a frequency, which should be no higher than 1.2kHz with fifteens, 2kHz with twelves. Those that do get it right tend to be in the upper price range.
  20. that's the numbers i recall
  21. Today
  22. Thinking about this a bit further, I think going to see The Sex Pistols when they reformed in 1996 was probably a big factor in me getting back into playing.
  23. I got distracted with various things and missed the date slipping by!
  24. A timely thread. I'm about where you are. Playing live for over 40 years. I find I'm pushing myself as I don't want to let others down. Two gigs this weekend, and if they were both cancelled, I'd be quite happy. Hadn't thought of a reset, but maybe finding something that suits me. I also think I should give the gig to someone else and not be selfish. I'm going to think about a reset for sure.
