  2. Have posted about this a while ago, but following on from Rich, I thought I'd re-state my first Wal cost £50 (fifty), in 1989, and, no, it wasn't stolen.
  3. I play Alembics. Idiosyncratic is a word that I sometimes use. Sometimes, I use other words
  4. Rhymes with "doll". Paid £330 for mine in '86.
  5. I’ve used mine regularly through a barefaced 210, and it just about can keep up with a drummer but not with a completely clean tone. I’d imagine the 310 being just about perfect for it. I have plugged it into a BF 610, 810 and a big twin a few times - they were sublime! Great head
  6. 4 string set of Dogal Strings, Made in italy. These are the "Jaco System Ultraflat" Carbonsteel Strings. Gauges are 40-60-80-100. Have only been used at home ocassionally, and only wear is on the windings as they have been fit 2-3 times on a 4 string Fender-type headstock (at this point will not fit other headstock types). These flats are brighter than usual flats and more supple due to the round core, comparable to Thomastik Flats. Selling only as I realised I'm not much of a fan of flats generally. Shipment at buyer's expense or collection in East, North, or Central London. Thanks for looking.
  7. Original pickguard for latest Yamaha BB Basses. Colour is black/cream/black. Will fit the following Yamaha BB's: 234, 434, 734A, P34. Shipment at buyer's expense or collection in East, North, or Central London. Thanks for looking.

  8. Just got back from a gig where I used one of these, great sounding cab.
  9. Oh my, I think the bass gods are really toying with me; I was looking out for a Tune 5-string a while back (I have the TWB-6 and a couple of the later Korean models). Sadly, funds won't currently allow me to go for it but I can certainly vouch for the quality of these basses. Absolutely! GLWTS. 👍😎👍
  10. I know, but nothing sounds like a Wal. A proper Alembic would be an acceptable substitute, I suppose. That's a whole other can of worms.
  11. I was thinking that - I haven't signed anything. Andertons have ordered from EB so will see how it plays out.
  12. I think it's very significant that they've chosen a female drummer. Any male drummer is going to be directly compared to Niel Peart, probably not favourably no matter how well he plays. Choosing a woman for that role opens any such criticism to claims of misogyny. I don't doubt there has already been a narrative created that detracts from that motive, but it's unlikely to be a complete coincidence. I have to be honest and say that, although I'll be interested in how this all turns out, I wasn't that keen on the later era of Rush with Neil Peart, let alone a stand-in. I wouldn't have turned out to see Rush nowadays, regardless. It's not just Rush, I find all these stadium-filling rock legends shows to be a hollow shell of whatever they are trying to recreate. The Rolling Stones are still touring, but if you go to the show you still haven't really seen the Rolling Stones. That ship sailed decades ago. Your just seeing a few guys who were there at the time, probably from a great distance. It's not so much a celebration of the music as a chance to marvel at seeing them in the flesh for a bit while they are still alive. The same with The Who, et al. I expect this will be a greatest hits kind of show, fair enough I hope everyone enjoys it,bbut I saw Rush play live plenty of times in their heyday. They were a special band in those days, and that's how and when I like to remember them. I don't need any more momentos.
  13. In a flash of either brilliance or stupidity , I'm actually using a my old markbass cmd121p combo amp as our sub .. with the Tweetr disconnected inside, it seems to really supercharge the limited low end from our singers previously vocal only Yamaha stage pass 500. The combo has t been working a treat ... ... Has XLR in and It's light powerful and expandable with the second cab on the left side. I'm sure we loosing lots of sub 40hz frequency from it not being a real sub but they are compact loud and super portable and don't have pole sockets but other than that I'm struggling to see any downside. Our setup with this also has janky old two 80s peavy active 15 wedges 'which also sounds great .. but look ancient .. so much so the guitarist went out and bought a second one to match when we found the first as a giveaway on Facebook marketplace
  14. He may very well be Pete. He may even be good with children and animals and be a Blue Peter badge winner too. However, he has the whole "Youtube Persona" thing going on that I can't stand. So, by default, he's a megabell. However, your point that he's not going to comment on anything going through the courts is exactly why anyone wouldn't get involved in this.

  18. I do sometimes wonder whether the younger generations would bother with vintage basses in the future. Will they buy something from the usual big names such as fender, and just pick a bass because of the colour and perhaps weight? Some brands like Warwick for example , don’t seem to be in fashion at the moment . I could be wrong of course . My corvette ticks a lot of boxes in a good way . However, basses that look like tables are a bit marmite . The one I have is the weight of a buffalo ,but fine when playing with a strap, I listed it on here a couple of times but decided to have it tuned low and keep it . Metal style basses with pointy necks are also marmite etc . more headless basses are com8ng out now , but status and old steinberger will hold their value and increase imho

  22. Personally I bought my first double bass about 11 months ago after playing electric for 30 years. Loving it but I find it takes time and allot of practice to sound good. I don’t find it easy to switch between electric and upright yet. Used to have a NS Wav eub, didn’t sound like a double bass, or an electric, didn’t feel like one in terms of the physical part but it did have its own (good imo) sound and I could switch between them easily. jonny
  23. Playing by ear is not formally defined. Is it being able to pick up songs without a written guide? Is it being able to play something straight off from just hearing it? Is it being able to find the key and join in random songs? Is it being able to identify various intervsls by ear? Or all of these; something else; any one of these or a bit of all of them?
  24. I know Danny and he's a nice guy! Unfortunately, he's not a big lad and I can't imagine him wanting to get involved with anything potentially as serious as this. It is one thing to get annoyed and call out a YouTuber over ripping other YouTubers off (and then to benefit from the resulting online publicity), it's quite another to get involved in a case going through the criminal courts in the country he lives in, with a guy who is a career criminal and who has been known to make physical threats!

  26. Yuk! That is one horrible overpriced bass imho .
