  2. I’ve got a beautiful Epiphone Thunderbird 4 pro. It came with a Gibson TRC fitted. I’m funked if I could be bothered to source an Epiphone TRC just so I’m not playing a counterfeit. Anyhoo, it’s such a good bass I can’t believe an original Gibson would be any better. I’ll play it out live and anyone who’s got a problem with it can mind their own business. By the same token the last gig I did was in Sweden and I took a first generation Squier CV Jazz with its original logo. Again, if anyone has a problem with me playing a Squier (which is a better bass than some Fenders I’ve played) again, they can mind their own business! Ahh the beauty of getting older is definitely not giving so much of a funk! I would obviously have a problem with someone trying to pass something off as something it’s not. That is clearly wrong - most of us on here would practice due diligence in the transaction but I guess someone starting out could be taken in. Have a groovy Sunday folks!
  3. This is a bargain at this price, folks! Fighting the urge to buy it back.
  4. The Storm - Flying Colours
  5. As proven at the last em bass bash, I can fit: A 4/4 double bass, two electric basses and 450W of amplification In a (manual) Skoda Citigo 😁. no drummer tho....
  6. Basic laminate bass. Very shallow body. Likely to be short on tone, sustain and projection. Still, some of those 1960s east European factory basses are quite decent. Especially if youre going to use a pickup. I'd say make sure to play it first, but for £275....just buy it and see. Bear in mind that new strings will be £200+, a new bridge similar (tho it looks to have a good and well fitted one), and the cost of repairing any internal rattles will be way more than the value of the bass. But being plywood, it's likely just fine in that respect.
  7. Best of luck Steve. Hope it goes well
  8. The newer ones, like my old one are the Electra 2 VS4 without the push/pull
  9. Something a bit more up to date today - this one is only 24 years old - this is my interpretation of the complete Justin Chancellor bass part to the tne Schism from the 2001 Tool album, 'Lateralus'. I only heard this for the first time yesterday and love the bass hook that opens the track. Had to get it down. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/schism-tool/
  10. Messaged Brian.
  11. Price drop: £115 No I haven’t bought an MXR Bass Synth (yet…) but I’ve accepted I just prefer my Ftelettronica Suboctave. This is the same pedal as the now famous Taylor Shift but with a different visual design. It includes a low pass filter which sounds great and the octave circuit is one of the best OC-2 clones out there. Can either ship or happy to meet anywhere in London. Any questions let me know!

  12. This is the problem, I recently read a post from someone who purchased a VS4 Electra only to find it didn’t have the push/pull switch despite it being advertised. Thanks for your replies though. Guess I’ll have to contact Sandberg direct.
  13. List a Status Graphite 4-string Jazz neck for sale on this forum and it will be gone within minutes at a price higher than its original RRP, simply because of both rarity and the vast number of instruments already owned that it will work with (Fender MIA, MIJ, MIM Jazzes and Precisions, plus many other brands). Cheap? It's simply good business sense. A lot of businesses go under because they fail to recognise the nature of the market they're selling into.
  14. Right so for knocks and dings I literally didn't see a mark on it,I want to say 10/10 but let's go with 9.9/10 just to cover myself 😊 Barts (to me) lack openness and lean to the dark side, which is exactly what some users require so it's definitely a taste thing. What would I change them for? I have a thing for Nordstrand Big Singles if I'm being honest. Ha ha do you know that could possibly be my dream job the amount of time I spend noodling on basses in shops. The chaps in Bass Direct,BassBros,The Bass Gallery,Wunjos,Epsom, Camden and Birmingham Guitar Guitar and Andertons know me a bit too well. Dunno if I need counselling or not 🤣 I'm actually planning an Andertons visit later today!
  15. A good thing about fitting the Hosco saddles is that they keep the correct look of the bridge - i.e. twin saddles - and also utilise the stock bridge plate so no new holes in the body are required.
  16. Sorry, Lozz, can't seem to delete your tag, and this is not responding directly to you. Al, you have raised another very important point here. Your right hand technique does not want to be too strong. This is something I am guilty of - digging in. It really doesn't help your tone. You need to let the pickups and amplifier do the heavy lifting. Turn up, play lighter. You get a more even vibration this way. I was always a bit sceptical about this until I saw Nick Fyffe playing with the Temperance Movement. He had the biggest, most driving sound you could wish for, and was hardly touching the strings. Stupidly, I STILL can't do it (left it too late).

  19. A mold costs around £3000-15000. It needs some fixing, and its lifetime depends on the material (cheap and soft aluminium, or hard and pricey steel). Therefore the real price will certainly be higher than the given cost. And as the 4 string bass is the most common (90 % of all basses?), I would start with it.
  20. There's a list going in t'other thread! 🙂
  21. Which I think is so cheap: I would like to see shapes from other decades than 50's. I do not play surf. But commercially it most likely is the road to happiness.
  22. Look what I found. This neck was upgraded from a four bolt to a five bolt, without removing the four bolts. Nice tight fit tho. I'll scrape both sides flat with a tungsten stripper blade, and see how it sets up then.
  23. Biggest market has to be Fender Jazz in both fretted and fretless, followed by Precision and one or more Stingrays (depending on whether they are pre-drilled) 👍
  24. Of all 4 string carbon necks I've played I like Status MM4 a lot because of its profile. Vigier Passion II has another good profile. This is naturally subjective, because I've heard someone to love Steinberger (feels awkward to me). Five string is a more complicated topic. Most of the necks are with 17 mm string spacing and it is too tight for me. Modulus has thin and very playable neck but I never felt the spacing comfortable. I have found that spacing varies between 14 and 21.5 mm from bass to bass, and (18-)19 mm feels the most natural (to me, that is). I think that a 18-19 mm spacing allows tighter spacing, too, if the bridge allows it. But 17 mm spacing will never make 19 mm possible when the neck dimensions hinder it. Scale lengths, I like to be on the longer side, 34-36". But the spacing and neck profile are much more important to me. Why have I chosen graphite over wood? Environmental stability. No need to adjust. Black looks good. Matt lacquer feels good under the thumb. Tinting or the top twill gives a nice touch. And I don't care about suitability to some body or neck pocket dimensions. Neck is the thing and everything else follows that. (Brass or steel screw inserts, please.)
