A light, affordable and decent powered cab is not common. Why not get a combo and dial back the input sensitivity (or use the line input if it has one - many do). Failing that, an active PA cab would to the job for not too much money.

Barefaced Three10 Teaser: Anybody Know More?
BassAdder60 replied to Obrienp's topic in Amps and Cabs
I guess Alex is right they have sold you as per the details on their website Problem is 10weeks is crazy so they need to start building some for stock like other manufacturers do so in cases like this it’s possible to correct errors even though it appears it’s the buyer who made the error not the seller -
Highly recommend Laney.

Ian Martin Allison is a session player. great personality. He is also a part of scott's bass lessons. The company probably thought it was a good idea to collab with Ian as his done things with mike lull, La Bella and dunlop. His signature Mike Lull is rather cool. https://ianmartinallison.com/

Absolutely, based on that summary of the response. It just looks like a stock One10 to me, I'd perhaps understand a little more if it was customised and harder to sell to someone else.

I haven’t posted on this thread for a while now, mainly because my gigs are often residences and subsequently fairly similar, rinse and repeat jobs etc. Usually in a duo these days too, with the occasional dep here and there with other bands. I did just short of 100 gigs in 2025, ( so much for semi retiring etc.) so still doing a fair few. 2026 is looking around the same so far which is good. Anyway, couple of recent ones worth a mention. Scarborough Yacht Club was an interesting venue, located on a pier in the harbour and part of the lighthouse building. Needless to say a challenging get-in, where we nearly drove the van over an old bridge which wouldn’t have held the weight! (See pic 1 below) So we had to carry all our kit on foot, with heavy rainfall not helping. The gig went well, although a very boozy do with plenty of audience ‘interaction’. Been promised a return gig in the spring so think they liked it. Played a nice gig at a lovely hotel just outside York in December. It was a trio, headed by wonderful saxophonist / flautist and singer Jon Taylor. Jon has played in many bands over the years, and is a great character. First time I’ve played with him, and a thoroughly enjoyable gig, at a great venue. (Pic 2). We did our annual Christmas gig at Beverley’s ‘The Sun Inn’, where we get invited guests up to sing with us. As last year, we had some mega volunteers, including landlord Paul and also Dave Hemingway from ‘The Beautiful South’. Dave did a version of Bowie’s ‘Starman’ which was really good, and the pub was rammed with a ‘one in / one out’ policy to avoid overcrowding. (pic 3 shows the group shot). My go to rig for most of the gigs has been either a Fender Kingman electro acoustic, or a Squier Jaguar SS when I know it may get a bit loud and lairy. Then one of two Rumble V3 combos, either the 100 or 500. Shoes have varied but often black Chelsea boots.

Bought a fuzz pedal from Aaron. Was well packaged and dispatched flexibly to account for me being away. Communicated up until delivery since there was a slight delay from the courier, which he was apologetic for despite not being his fault. Great guy, quality Basschatter.

It depends how it stacks up against other boutique pres. Nobles are crazy expensive, Caveman too. Origin Effects are less expensive at around £550, as is the Jad Freer (IIRC), which, given the similar pedal board nature of the Walrus, I think is where it should be pitched. For my own use, £250-£300 is going to be my top end and there are plenty of offerings up to that figure for preamps that do what I need/want.

You'd definitely have to joint it (as in glue a couple of sheets along the grain). That's normal though and adds stability. As said you could specifically seek out redwood 'furniture board' for this, never had any problems with it myself. But good ply is durable, and looks very nice finger-jointed (or dovetailed. Tufts list 'marine ply' albeit only in 6, 12 or 18mm. Could try calling? 12mm with more bracing is a good route to a lighter but still decent cab. My best stage monitors are 12mm birch with 12" drivers, and they've doubled as excellent bass cabs in the past. I'm sure there are other suppliers, often sheet material suppliers are specialist and distinct from timber merchants.

Shocking! I would be inclined to just return it for a refund and stuff them. Don’t get these issues with LFSys and their 10” cabs are definitely a cut above BF IMO.

Sorry, I seem to have started a hare running! I have no idea where I would get decent timber in my part of Norfolk. There must be places but the nearest to me are the usual culprits and even as a complete woodworking novice, I can tell the quality of the solid woods on offer is abysmal. The pine looks not much better than balsa wood and there aren’t any sheets wide enough to do the panels of a 12” cab (yes, I’m posting in the 8” thread: it seemed more active). My gut says 15mm ply but not from my local B&Q: the sheets there are all bashed about, full of filler and voids and most are warped. I am thinking I might have to order online from further afield. Big risk; as any pre-cut sheets might arrive dog eared from courier handling. If anybody has a good experience of this and can recommend a supplier, I would be really grateful. My mate has been making open back guitar combos: I don’t think he has realised the dimensions I will need for a closed, ported 12” bass cab. He might change his mind about solid timber when I show him the dimensions, besides I’m paying, so I get the last say. I will definitely go for the finger joints though. I might also need to seek advice about port size and length in due course.

Hi @Shaggy, I’m selling an Ultralite Xtender - it’s not the right one for your bass but I’m fairly sure that they all have the same fixing plate so see the pic below, should give you an idea: -

The SRs are great. There's a 2105 prestige model for sale in the for sale section at the moment.

Is it ok to use BEAD on a normal 4 string or does it put too much stress on the neck as it's made for a 4 string?

Hi. Here’s my 2010 USA Musicman Stingray 5HH in excellent condition. No damage or signs of wear apart from some really thin cobweb like lines on the pick guard which dont show in the photos even, so will probably buff out. Just one very shallow mini dimple on the back of the body. My lamps make it look worse than it is, to be clear. So only a 9.9/10 for condition ! Excuse the conservatory roof reflections (the parallel lines) and there’s a palm plant too. Better light though. This bass plays both beautifully and thunderously depending on your preference with the 5 way pickup selector and powerful 3 band preamp. All the electronics perform perfectly. Everything works as it should and the alnico pickups give a rich variety of useable tones. It’s a very responsive and dynamic bass in tip top condition and priced accordingly. The frets have most of their depth left and were professionally dressed just after I bought it. See the close ups. They were polished today and I only had to use a little oil to clean the fretboard today so this bass is ready to do the business for you. New battery too. It has a lovely smooth and dark rosewood board. Shiny gloss black finish over the ash body. Nut width 44.6mm 66.6mm at 12th fret String spacing 17.5mm at the stainless steel saddles. D’Addario 40-125 roundwound nickels. Weighs 4.55kg , 10lbs 1/2 oz with the lighter original metal black knobs and 4.6kg, 10lbs 2oz with the chrome ones. Nicely balanced with a strap in either case. I’ve had it nearly 10 years but need to raise some funds now and recently got a 4HH Special so that can take over now. I bought it used in 2016 but it’s only had minimal home use in that time as my other basses need playing too. It’s all stock apart from the chrome knobs but I have the original black ones if you’d prefer them. Both photod. Price reflects the excellent condition and perfect working order. It includes the original Musicman Stingray 5 hard case and insured UK Mainland delivery costs but I will send it further afield if you contribute the charge beyond UK mainland. Thanks for looking.

Nice one! Looking forward to your review and bass sound samples / YT clips if you're up for recording some for us? If this really is as good a filter as it promises to be, there'll be a few more of us in the queue to get one, I suspect!

Extra long scale perhaps?

Number of strings, or frets for that matter, doesn't influence me. I always stink:

Caveman Audio BP1 Preamp - £550 Delivered in UK. In immaculate condition and boxed. Purchased from Bass Direct in September 2025. This is a superb preamp and is the fourth one I have owned but I keep struggling with the amount of pedal board space it needs. This time I am determined to downsize to a smaller board. I would consider a trade for a Jad Freer Capo with a bit of money coming my way. https://caveman-audio.com/bp1-bass-preamp/ Potential buyers are welcome to demo in Glasgow.

Only the intro. Tool songs use the other strings too!

I've had a response to my email now. I'm not best pleased with it really, I've basically been blamed for not noticing that the handle and feet placement had changed in the pictures on their website, and if I'd wanted it to match an older style cab then I should have specified it, despite there being no option to specify it on the website. They have offered to collect this one, and make me one to match my existing cab though, but I don't know how long that is going to take, I've waited over 10 weeks for this one. Humbug.
