    Shared back-line in many cases is cabs only/bring your own amp head, as a lot of bands don`t like others using their amps. I`ve been in originals bands for years and this is pretty much the norm, unless full back-line provided by the venue. Having a pre-amp pedal can work nicely if there is either an amp already there that you can use, or if not, good monitoring with the option of going straight to the PA. I tend to take both amp and pedal (my pre-amp/DI is a Behringer BDI21 which costs about £30 so not a huge outlay). I think given that you loved the Orange Terror go with that or the Little Bass Thing.

    I guess if they pay the bands then there's no money left for the charity so it's no longer a charity gig. A mate of mine puts on a metal bands night once a month and gets all the ticket money to pay bands. If they get £100 each for the three bands then they're lucky. If they set the door price over £5 then people moan and don't turn up. Fortunately, most amateur metal bands seem to be happy just to play.

    Aah, in the decades I've been playing I've used everything from hotwired bell-wire through to my current @obbm Speakons. Never suffered damage, any (noticable) loss in sound, no explosions etc. Maybe I've just been lucky, or maybe we were too stupid to know better.

    Did you mean trade for the v1? From a nostalgia point of view, I wouldn’t mind having a v1, but I wouldn’t use it (which is why I sold mine) and I could really do with the money at the moment.

    It's amazing how many times venues have tried to book my (originals) band under the premise of a charity gig, i.e. we don't have to pay the bands. Charity is a good thing; not paying bands isn't.

    Boss WL-50. Performed for every gig and rehearsal without a glitch for 5 or more years until I switched to the Legato bugs.     Trace Elliot Transit B pre-amp that has the famous Trace Elliot EQ, pre-shape, drive, compressor and tuner all in one pedal. heres the .pdf from Trace Elliot explaining it all https://www.traceelliot.com/resources/te-transit-b-om.pdf I found it incredibly useful to have all my favourite things in one off-the-peg unit and it glows green when you switch it on. What else could you ask for? I stuck a bit of luminescent tape to mark where the DI is. These are north of £270 new, this works and is in good nick so I am asking £150 posted to UK mainland. You are welcome to pop over and try before you buy.

    I think the arguments for specialist speaker cable are weaker than for instrument level cables. For bass stacks cables are so short any losses are negligible. For long PA runs maybe. The speaker cables I made in the distant past used cable designed for repeated coiling and flexing and I've never had a failure. I do use branded off-the-shelf speaker cables now because I greatly prefer speakon. Instrument wise, I use decent cables and prefer my Van Damme/Neutrik ones for reliability and 'limpness', although I have many others.
