  2. Nearly everything true there is true of bands using backline and those without. The only difference is that you either need to find one (hopefully competent) person to control the mix or 4+ (hopefully competent) people to control themselves in the mix. Guess which is more likely? You are right that most sound techs are subpar, what are the chances you find a band that's entirely comprised of good ones? This thread about preamps is in danger of becoming "the pros and cons of ditching backline thread #18662" but I would argue that it's possible to get a bad mix and a good mix using either approach. What can't/won't/doesn't happen in an ampless setup is volume creep and volume wars where everyone turns themselves up throughout the night. Maybe you start with a quiet drummer, maybe you start with a loud drummer. What you don't get is a drummer who keeps hitting harder and harder because that bloody guitar amp is drowning them out. On drummers and electric kits: budget guitar modellers from Nux/Hotone/Valeton and the like are exceptional. Your own Paradriver is my favorite ever pedal and I would use that until the end of my days and sound as good as my crappy playing will ever sound for only £250. Great electric drum kits are hard to come by and very expensive IME.
  3. Is there a raffle or is it swap shop or something else? Happy to bring something down to be raffled off. I suppose a stroppy nineteen year old is off-limits? Two smelly and feral cats? A dodgy Scotsman? All suggestions welcomed. Thanks Rob
  4. Sunday!? That came around quickly!
  5. I bet anyone who went to this last month is feeling pretty pleased with themselves https://www.ronniescotts.co.uk/find-a-show/anika-nilles
  6. Mike bought my Lekato wireless immediate payment great communication absolute pleasure to deal with top guy
  7. As the first batch is about to leave your factory I would like to ask your next steps. 1) Will there be "always available" basic models like P and J with certain options mentioned here? 2) Will there be a possibility to order custom neck like with special neck width and thickness? Example: 5-string, 19 mm string spacing, no dots... I understand that the latter means also custom mould, that sure is expensive. But I don't care whether the custom would be headed or headless, I am able to build the parts for the headless. Any hint about your future plans?
  8. Unlikely unless agreed in advance. Even if turning up with a split, depending upon your sound guy, they may not like that either. As always, communication is key... and the sound engineer. Alot of sound engineers are paid up to just turn up and do their thing on the day in a manner they know... things tend to go south when you tipple that norm.

  10. The bridge/knob placements in those pics suggests it isn't just a case of how far into the body the bridge is set. The body shapes may have varied over the years.
  11. Maybe a hankey would be more appropriate? 😂

They explain why they chose her in the video. As bass players we should all know exactly why any particular drummer gets the gig in our band.
  13. I understand the reason for the position of the tuners: the half position is closer to the player and therefore more ergonomic. I have been looking at many designs where the bridge is (nearly) in the middle of the bass (starting from Alembics) and half position is miles away. Brown Bass is most likely OK for Jokic, and Antetokoumpo (and Clarke), but my reach is shorter. Long gigs are a real pain with XLong scale and that low B somewhere in the Far East. The design of this particular bass is a bit cumbersome, like @Bassassin noted. Most likely only a study of the design, and something that people can talk about (an advertisement of the maker per se). After all this is a plain PJ bass.
  14. Great set up. Ran exactly the same rig for a few years pre covid. GLWTS
  15. I’m really looking forward to that one. I’ve heard one (really excellent) demo. How is it? I’ve not been as excited by a pedal for a while. Maybe worth its own thread if there isn’t one already?

  17. Excellent solid and versatile active DI box from Canford Audio, only selling since I have three of these It comes with the instruction leaflet Inputs for Instrument or Amp output. Output jack for Amp input or speaker cab alongside. Balanced XLR output to mixer on the reverse. Instrument input 1.8M ohm impedance - so no loading of amp input or pickups Phantom powered off the mixer XLR or by 9v battery
  18. Lovely looking bass.
  19. Due to house move next week I really need to get this moving. You won't find better value than this!!!

Maybe they will do some new music. All we know right now is that they're playing some shows next year. Geddy and Alex are both in their 70s now, and, as you have pointed out, have other things going on. I doubt that two septuagenarians would be putting themselves through the rigours of touring again unless it was something they really wanted to do rather than just doing it for the money.
  21. LA Audio high quality active DI box, very solid construction; comes with an instruction leaflet - which is worth reading since the box is deceptively versatile! This works off an 18v rail so can cope with high or low level signals. Power via phantom from your mixer or 2 x 9v batteries Usefully it has a +20db switch to increase the level of low output devices and with 1M ohm input impedance is compatible with piezo pickups The Input will work with Instrument or Speaker levels ('Pad' switch is for speaker level), isolated XLR output for your mixer and a 'link' output to take the signal on to an amp or cab A separate unbalanced output is available as well as the balanced XLR
  22. Bi-Filter Fuzz! Winner!! Si
  23. Many thanks, Hellzero. I had not heard of the Leduc U-Basse. It sounds very interesting. However, I have just ordered the Godin A5 Ultra…it should arrive on Tuesday. If that fails, I’ll look for the Leduc!
  24. Tired of getting stopped at airports when the boss is fully wired up 😂
