It's a single data point but the same BF cab scared me when I gave too big of a twist wanting a bit more loud. So yeah, not at all sensitive but a big amp with a heap of power will make big boom.

A bit of light relief today. I heard this a couple of days ago and thought I would take it one when I had a minute so here we are. The complete Chris Squire part for the tune 'Time And A Word' from the 1970 Yes album of the same name. https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/time-and-a-word-yes/

Gallien Krueger 700RB Mk2 (reduced to £200)Sean replied to basstone's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale Let's put some perspective on this. I've just paid £84 for a GK to be inspected and diagnosed. Tony (fab chap who knows his techy stuff at a level most of us could never achieve) is selling a top notch, recently serviced one for £200. And it's got a 2x10 with bi-amping and wheels included. Surely, this should be nominated for BassChat Bargain of the Year 2025. It's a gem.

I couldn't agree more! In my opinion, specs are supposed to help us choose products that will suit our needs. Unfortunately they rarely fulfill that function and, more often than not, just confuse the issue! It should be possible to do better than what we're currently given spec-wise, but there are always intangibles and personal preferences to take into account, too! Even trying in a shop has its limitations. I bet there are loads of people here who have tried an amp out in a shop and been blown away by it, only to find it doesn't cut it in a gig situation...

I’ve come to the conclusion I have far too much stuff, it’s time to let some things go and this is the first ... I’ve just had to admit that the music I play these days just doesn’t need those 400 watts of valve power. The sound of these Trace Elliot valve amps is legendary and it really does deserve the reputation. I spoke with Mr Green of Trace Elliot a few years ago, at the time he said the Trace pre amp was the most sampled valve bass sound in the world The controls are quite and the fan is strong keeping the six KT88’s nice and cool. The servicing engineer said the valves and transformers would cost at least £700.00 to replace, so this amp is realistically priced. Everything about it is quality, even the control knobs are solidly made, not the run of the mill stuff off a convenient parts shelf It has it’s own flight case (pictured) to keep everything in good order, probably the reason why it’s still in nice overall condition Collection really preferred, although I’m willing to drive a reasonable distance to meet and hand over in person I fang Q

The Short Scale Bass Appreciation Society!Stub Mandrel replied to Baloney Balderdash's topic in Bass Guitars Well you can measure 0.01 inch by eye, just, with the right ruler. 0.001mm is a few wavelengths of lightn about 1/50 as much. Quoting to a thousandth of a mm suggests they got the NPL to measure the scale length 😁

I see what you mean, but it has a valve front end, and to get the 'orange tone' one has to drive the preamp quite hard. I have plenty of other options for a quiet clean sound, itcwould be nice to experiment with my tone and different basses at home. When I wanted to experiment with my stage sound (also my pedalboard) I hired a rehearsal space for two hours (which was quite cheap as you get 1 peron daytime rate) and was able to do so at realistic settings.

I think that 4-string NT Peaveys are generally 34" while 5 and 6-strings are 35", although the predecessor to the Cirrus, the Zephyr (or C5) had a 34" 5-string neck.

Song writing partnerships: myth or reality?silverfoxnik replied to lemonstar's topic in General Discussion In my experience, songwriting partnerships work when the people involved bring different skills, experience, musical talents and personalities to the project. And another important factor is that there's got to mutual respect and trust too, just like in any relationship, otherwise it won't work or last.. Isn't there's a semi-serious and funny (if it weren't so true) quote or saying out there somewhere about it 'being impossible to be a musician and an adult at the same time'...?? So when it comes to trying to find a songwriting partner you can work with, you've got to hope they're similar to you in terms of that emotional maturity /sensibility.. After all, it's quite a personal thing when you're writing music and words to share with the rest of the world!
