Eggbound and down - Jerry Reed

45-60-80-107 D'Addario EXL170BT. I use those on Spectors with EMGs and the Haz-clone preamp dimed through a GK and play lots of high register stuff. Sweet as a nut. Other than that, it's all in the fingers.

Just thought I'd show our most recent set up to show the lighting. this was a huge hall probably 250+ capacity but it cgace us a chance to set up as we wanted. The overhead house lights were on so our lights more effective once the ordinary lighting was off, but you can see how effective our lights were by the colour changes on the floor. The phone kind of makes them look like white lights but the clours were pretty intense in the room. We had our six pixel bars running together via DMX using the internal program from one of the lights. They are all on 1m high stands. The rear curtains are illuminated by Two 180W led floods on a sequence program, again with one slaved by DMX. At the back is A KAM REM1 with four PAR's, no longer available but similar units can be found pretty much anywhere. The venue had it's own lighting but we only had axcess to the extremely grimy mirror ball and some old school incandescent overhead floods with straw filters. You can see the ones with the barn doors at the top of the pics. The flashing is to recorded music. The Pixel Bars are around £60 ea and the stands £20 so you are looking at £480 worth of lights in these alone but they were bought a couple at a time and were useful even when I only had a pair. Most of the money I've wasted has been by buying random lights on impulse I'm now planning the lighting a bit more and I think getting better value for money, Now and Then new lights 1.MOV

Their 7/8 string guitars are pretty popular with the progressive/technical metal crowd. Not sure I'd seen the basses before though.

Hurr hurr, G-string

Keep it clean and on point please. My regular strings are D'addario Pro steel rounds 45 - 130 which I really like. The only issue I have and it's probably due to physics rather than any shortcomings of the strings. That is, I find that I don't want to play any notes below the 7th fret on the G-string as there does not seem to be enough warmth in the tone so I tend to use the D-string for those notes instead.. I'm due for a string change in the not too distant future and would like to try a thicker G-string but keep the rest of the set the same. The constraint is that all my basses have brass nuts and bridges where some are plated so i'm restricted in opening up the plated ones and for the non plated ones I don't really want to open up the slots until i'm sure that the larger gauge will give me a bigger sound. So i'd like to know how far up in gauge I can go on the G-string without having to open the slots so I could investigate. Thanks in advance.

Having a good preamp sound is quite key, so finding something that works for both FoH and in your IEMs is definitely worth investing a bit of time on. HX Stomp can be a little harsh from experience, unless you've put the time into sorting the EQ. I've found the IEM tone from my Boss GT1000 Core and same patch on the GX-10 to be excellent for both IEM and FoH. The other big difference can be from the IEM ear pieces themselves. Several of us in my band are using KZ ZARs (£90 Amazon or £35 Ali Express) and I'm sure others on the thread will be able to recommend other models.

switching to IEM is enough of a learning curve without everything else!! I had a fun Sunday, the PA guys had mixed me really subby and not much middy punch... so after practice I may have been a bit naughty and turned the mids up on my preamp... sounded great. Took one of my ears out halfway through and my word people were singing loud!

A whole bunch of classic Billy Joel songs. Some nice bass parts. I know very little about who the players are so will get googling…

How would you rate it? These have been on my radar for quite some time as they tick so many boxes for me.

I got the mini QC yesterday, and have only had a quick go on it, but first impressions are that it is awesome. I tried the Anagram, and the Nano Cortex but returned them both. So far I think it’s worth the extra over the Anagram. I like the ease of use of the cortex cloud for downloading presets and captures without having to hook it up to a PC. The QC mini has factory presets for Steve & Duff, and they both sound great.
