  1. Past hour
  2. Wow! I was in the shop 2 weeks ago and had a long chat with Hamilton all about the process of bow rehairing. No one mentioned imminent closure. 😞
  3. Aye, the wind was fighting me at times on the walk home (thankfully managed to get a bus half way), and today just seen that the garden took a bit of a hiding
  4. Thanks, looks like they are standard size then. My tent pole bag is 120cm which just leaves space for a few leads as well as the lights. Whilst I was checking the dimensions of my existing lights I tool a pic of my adapted bass case with the 'spare' lights in. You can see where I removed some of the foam when I cut it out to accommodate the lights. As a case it offers good protection and will take 5 strip lights at a time
  5. I need a small amp for home use, low volume, headphone option, play solo or with backing tracks, 4-string bass so no need to be concerned about articulation of a low A 5th string. Both the Nano and the Double 4 are similarly priced, the Double 4 being slightly more expensive. I'm wondering what the difference might be in sound quality. I don't slap, am more focussed on 1950's to 60's-style jazz playing with either a fretted instrument or a fretless. Your thoughts would be appreciated.
  6. Was the weather not a bit horrendous up your way last night @neepheid. ? Dave
  7. Purchased a while ago but never used. Stingray 5, 3 eq pick guard.
  8. Running Out Of Time - Ozzy Osbourne
  9. Hourglass - Squeeze
  10. It is separate subs that cause power alleys.
  11. What a Waist - Ian Dury and the Blockheads
  12. I concur with Misdee. I previously owned a four string Persuader, and as nice as it was I would expect an Alembic from much higher up the food chain for the asking price quoted. The signatures add minimal value in my view.
  13. Ah, I didn't know he did commission sales at 15%, that's useful to know thanks. Rob
  14. I think pre EB MusicMan stuff has also gone up a great deal over the last year or so - it used to be priced similarly to Fender stuff of the same vintage, but the fact that they now have their Retro '70s/Pino basses sold new for over £3000 new means that no-one, shop or private seller, is going to take anything less than £3000 for any pre-EB stuff, unless it's modified/very bad condition.
  15. To be honest I've never received a decent offer from any shop for part exchange/buy in, and I think these days Andy Baxter won't accept any part exchange against a commission sale. However, when I sold through him his commission was 15% while a lot of other shops take 20%. It's swings and roundabouts I suppose.
  16. Tech 21 bass fly rig 2. Owned from new. Very useful pre amp, I no longer use back line live, just this into the mixer. Included tin, sticker, manual. I have an after market 9v psu as the original one died. i’m based in Milton Keynes.
  17. My lad's not coming now, so if you take a sharpie and write on the bottom of one of the strips "Sponsored by David R, who would rather stay in bed", you can keep the door fee I paid for him 😉
  18. I've gone ahead and bought 4 strips of the cable guard recommended by Stub Mandrel for the Bash to complement the rubber guard I normally bring. Apart from the aspect of keeping tape off the floor, the hall Trustees have been having a blitz on risk management and I'm having to do this as I've assessed tripping over cables as one of the main risks of the event. As everyone realises, the Bash has always been priced to break even. I'm therefore asking/inviting/imploring/begging (delete as appropriate 🙂 ) everyone to pay an extra £2 on the door to help cover the £68 unexpected additional cost. At £15 a head, the Bash is still a bargain. (If anyone isn't prepared to contribute, that will be OK too.) No need for discussion on here about the above btw. Whatever happens on the door will be fine by me.
  19. Thought I’d better update … D’adarrio EXL 165-5 string bass strings ,custom light 45-135 long scale £ 29.99 silver guitar service Bass £50.00 Total £ 79.99 😼👍 Hats off to Absolute music for doing another nice setup . When I put bass in for service , the tech man wasn’t there , but one of the staff pointed me in 5he direction of the strings , and that he did this to his Warwick also. I’ve just got back a short while ago , and the job they have done is amazing ! Even the frets look as new . I forgot to enquire about that . They serviced one of my other basses ( a headless fretless purchased from mybass here . ) That was tuned B-E-A-D also , and after not giving it much of a chance I love it ! The strings I purchased at the time were D’darrio from Amazon . They were a 4 string set meant to be tuned low apparently . A slight tangent ; I was thinking of other Warwick’s , the Taranis sprang to mind but I think I’ve gone in the right direction by sticking with this. As I’m old ..ish and just mess around at home , I was thinking about selling a few basses that I have trimming the heard and get a proper status and or steinberger from the golden age when I get a little inhertance . I’ll probably not do that ,now that I’m pleased with today’s outcome.
  20. It also has the effect of making less original or post CBS basses appear to be good value, despite them being incredibly expensive
  21. Today
  22. I think one reason that could be because he gives really low prices for part exchange and buying in, I’ve known him for a long time and I know money has to be made but I haven’t been able to do any deals because of what he offers, quite disappointing sometimes
  23. hippy hippy shake - swinging blue jeans
  24. That's going to suck for me getting the train, however, hopefully the rail replacement bus won't be awful.
  25. To be fair, I think Andy Baxter has a more realistic experience of the market than some other dealers and knows what something is really worth. He tends to get in the extremely rare/valuable stuff perhaps more than others do, and it is often very expensive. However, refinished/stripped/altered basses are often considerably cheaper at his place than other dealers - just recently I've seen refinished mid '60s Fender basses go for around 4K, and early '70s ones for around 2-2.5K. Compare that with the likes of the Gallery and Vintage Bass Room for their '60s/70s refins and he seems much better value.
