  1. Past hour
  2. No pelting when I saw them in Aberystwyth, but I made the mistake of putting my pint next to the PA. Huw Cornwell disposed of it with a deft kick...
  3. So would The Chameleon in Nottingham if it was still going. Almost impossible to get to in motor vehicle that wasn't a bus or taxi, and when you did there was no where close to park unless you wanted to risk putting it on the pavement while you unloaded as fast as possible. Then it was down a narrow alleyway and up two flights of steep, dimly-lit stairs to the venue itself.
  4. Nobody's perfect...
  5. Me too. But today I've been playing my P with a vintage C-profile neck. Although it's wide, it isn't deep and it makes me less likely to wrap my thumb right around it. This is good for my arthritis ... food for thought.
  6. I cut mine a bit longer than Chris so about 2 1/2 inches which gives me 3 winds or so, it doesn’t matter how short or long you have them it wouldn’t change the silks lining up I don’t think, most of my labella’s just line up as it’s the way they are made
  7. I know a guy who does local gigs under one band name and originals gigs at festivals etc. under his own name with the same band.
  8. I cut the E string just past the A string tuner, and a similar distance for all the other strings. Looks like that is 2". Gives me 2 turns of string on every post.
  9. Caught this on Pick of the Pops earlier and the bass, and the very heavy use of effects, caught my ear. Found the isolated track and out of curiosity I was wondering if this is a very heavy chorus effect, or flanger? (Or maybe phaser, but thought not). Anyway, it’s very effective (pun intended…): https://youtu.be/AYtG3NSJ5CU?si=4WG4ym4_o98_laVT

  11. Bootleggers on Womanby Street would score highly...
  12. Blamb! - Brothers Johnson
  13. Just put a set of 760FS-TB’s on my Precision bass. As far as I know they’re the only ones suitable for through-body basses. Pretty sure all their tapewound strings would have to be fitted through the bridge
  14. Ha ha, I’m honoured Steve, that’s a winning combination of two very nice pieces of Warmoth at their very best and some nice components finishing it off. Also possibly the most edible looking bass I can remember seeing 😀
  15. La Bella generally say on the packaging whether the strings are suitable for through bass stringing.
  16. Thanks for replies so far. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not obsessed over the silks lining up perfectly, I’d just like them to be close, and for there to be a bit more silk showing on the E once tuned.
  17. 7.00am this morning - in the cool of the yard outside our Oil City workshop - I took off the extra unwanted neck heel - bringing the neck angle to 90 degrees. This was a bit of a 'brown trouser job' as a cock up here could ruin the whole neck. I am getting used to the Japanese saw ... it's very strange cutting on the draw stroke - but by the Lord Harry it razors through maple like soft wood! That's a huge slab of American oak everything is clamped to - somebody just fly-tipped down the road from my house a few weeks ago - amazing what some folks throw out! I got thing mostly bang on - with a bit of end grain No4 Stanley plane work which was pretty soon sorted. The only slight downer is that I now find out the base of the neck pocket itself is a tad out of true with the bass centre line - clearly their production tolerances were a bit iffy - so a little bit of extra plane work will be needed. The lower part of the heel also needs tapered down a lot ... but that's not so 'mission critical'.
  18. ooooooffffftttt (in a good way)
  19. Superb price for such a capable bass.
  20. Hi there - the SH1. Sorry, should have made that clearer!
  21. I can imagine at least a couple of drummers thinking, "Well, it's usually like this anyway, so big deal." I can imagine a few bassists thinking, "As long as I can get along with the drummer, it's all good. No one else ever understands the rhythm section anyway." I cannot imagine many guitarists thinking, "Excellent! That's what I picked up the electric guitar to do, serve the interests of the singer with no thought for myself, and no ego at stake."
  22. Beef ore You Go - Lewis Capaldi
  23. Today
  24. ... or are they rubbish? High proportion of breakages and the top chews at the slightest amount of torque. That's with pilot holes, before anyone suggests!
  25. Combining a rather fetching Warmoth body/neck combination from our own @Beedster (from his current sale of assorted bits), the bass sports a Lollar 5% overwound pickup and Gotoh Res-o-Lite tuners. The obligatory K10gon loom (0.1 cap) and barrel knobs. A nice weight and very resonant. This one's a keeper for sure.
  26. Tallow (Is It Me You're Looking For?) - Lionel Richie
