    PMT

S'been a long time since I last saw printed price tags.
  3. If they are a physical shop mostly making their £ selling mass produced new instruments then they can't compete on price with big online shops for price, so what's their selling point? Even if people want to test the instruments, they can just do that in the shop then buy online. And even that isn't really necessary as all online sales can be returned for refund within a month. I don't think they've adapted with the times. We've seen it with shops like Our Price and HMV going under while shops like Rough Trade have expanded. They do in shop signings/gigs, have cafes, have fairly obscure vinyl and merchandise that can be tricky to get online. Personally I'd try and do similar with an instrument shop - don't compete directly with online shops for shifting mass produced boxes, put some effort in to offer alternatives: In shop demos, talks from musicians and manufacturers, small gigs, product launches, lessons, good part exchange deals, second hand, servicing, in shop experts happy to help, equipment rental, practice spaces, cafe/bar, boutique brands and custom stuff. Incentives like 'buy here and get a free lesson on how to use your new keyboard/set-up your bass/pair your mixer with your Laptop' etc. really make it a 'go to' hub for musicians. I think places like PMT have dropped the ball on this.
  4. Had a fretless 1990 Stingray 5 with a Pau Ferro 'board. It sounded fine (apart from my intonation!), and was as tough as you want.
  5. Another Wednesday evening at my new residency playing rock and roll dance stuff. Great selection of tunes - some standards plus some deeper cuts from Elvis, Johnny Burnette and Big Joe Turner. I sang a couple of Chuck Berry songs, ( the inevitable Johnny B Goode and Roll over Beethoven), so am looking to expand my repertoire of his stuff to lesser known songs that are still immediate & danceable. Bit of a NAD for me - first time out for a recently acquired Hartke HA3500. Not much time to fiddle with it so pretty much straight in, and it sounded as well as I’d hoped. Only got it as we can leave our gear at the venue, so no heavy lifting required. Using a Fender Rumble has turned me into a right wuss….
  6. French, too by the looks. They love an eSEL. Britain has been much slower to adopt them.
  7. One of the best Precisions out there, forget for the money, just one of the best out there.
  8. That'll be a B-Word consequence, I imagine. One of those oh-so benefitty benefits. 👍
  9. Well, that wasn't their product so it doesn't count!
  10. I've got a white Matt Freeman Squier precision with Seymour Duncan upgrade that I'm looking to move on for about £350 in a hardcase. Excellent condition, hardly gigged, non-smoker etc etc etc
  11. IME it doesn't matter when in the week you order something from Thomann, if it's destined for the UK it gets dispatched late on Friday afternoon.
  12. When I order something from Andertons or other large music shops, more often than not it is despatched the same day and arrives the next. I placed an order with Thomann on Monday. All of the items are in stock, but today (Thursday) the order is still showing as: open - Not yet processed - Order will soon be commissioned and shipped. Obviously it will take a few days to arrive once it has been despatched, but does anyone know why have my last few orders have taken so long to actually get processed and despatched? I am wondering whether there's a logistics reason such as all UK orders get grouped together as a single shipment until they reach the UK, so they only despatch those orders on a certain day of the week. I have sent them an enquiry and will report back if/when I get a reply.
  13. Where are you based? I've seen someone selling a mint Chinese Classic Vibe P Bass in Sonic Blue for £300, but they're up in Lochgilphead which isn't really near anywhere.
  14. We're Delta Smoak. Played Sunday 13th April, afternoon spot and back Sunday December 7th again afternoon spot.
  15. Read that earlier today - shocking, but has been going on unregulated for years. All it would take is for people to stop buying tickets like this for a week or two and things may change. Same as ‘dynamic pricing’, another dreadful idea brought in to rip off audiences. 😡
  16. I'm looking at something with a Pau Ferro fingerboard but I've never tried one before. The colour of the wood notwithstanding (I find it to often be too light and streaky for my taste but the one I'm looking at is quite dark and even), what's the grain and texture like compared to the traditional rosewood? I've tried instruments with Indian Laurel fretboards before and really didn't like it; it felt very dry even when it had been recently oiled and had a very open grain that you could comfortably stick a fingernail into.
  17. It`s amazing how far bass gear has come isn`t it. Way back when that weight was pretty much the expected, and whilst - imo - it probably sounds a lot better than the lightweight gear, it`s great we have the option nowadays.
  18. Given the goth style makeup she went out in last night I beg to differ... 😊
  19. I bought a bass from Stuart. All went well, good packaging, quick delivery. He is - as always - one of the good guys. Thank you Stuart
  20. I bought the Laney and I was massively disappointed in it and returned it. I also found the EQ to be very weak and subtle and if anything, it sounded very sterile and bland.
  21. The Sire P5 was £400 new so the top end of your budget although they may have gone up in price. But they are worth the money. I bought one recently in Dakota Red and it was perfectly set up out the box and I havent had to touch it since. Much better than a Squier, Harley Benton and as good as a Fender Player for half the price.
  22. I use that combination when playing live, and change it to the Starlifter + Trace Elliot (or Markbass) when playing through headphones. Great stuff.
  23. I too kept the NUX, it is a great little amp and the IR's do really change the sound which makes it very versatile.
  24. If you look at it one way, Isn’t it v2 of a MOD dwarf with added Darkglass?
