Is Gear4Music still in operation? I ask because I have tried to order a new bass from them - on-line - but cannot complete my order. I have bought stuff from them before but it was some time ago. When I opened up their web page it recognised me and had already filled in my email and password for me. I went ahead and put the bass in my cart and went to pay only to be asked to log in. I thought I already was logged in! So, I clicked the "Log In" button but was told I had used an incorrect password. Given that it was Gear4Music that had entered the password I was somewhat confused! Counting up the Asterix I worked out my password and submitted it only for it to not be recognised. I asked to reset my password and was told that an email had been sent to me to enable me to do that. After four attempts to get them to send an email I emailed them via a link on their web page. The email failed to deliver! I gave up and left it for a couple of days during which I received auto generated emails telling me I still had something in my cart that needed to be completed. I went through the whole procedure again but with no success. I've put the idea of buying a new bass on hold! Has anyone else had problems with the company?

Level 42 a week on Monday. They have been fantastic the last couple of times I've seen them, playing as well as ever and having a lot of fun

Only saying that because £18.5k is still a lot of money for a bass guitar!

Yes, Berlin is different, but he sure can play. And I like his style a lot. He is also brave enough to tell his opinions, although I may not always agree with everything he says. Someone said he plays like brass players do. (I agree that the fuzz wasn't necessary here.) Well done @Bilbo!

I used to own one of those RMI (Mark Ramsay) Quantum Dominic Di Piazza 6 string basses.. lush instruments ! I am in the process of getting a second hand Ibanez SRMD200 (tight budget, only have a Sire P7 FL for now).. I have a couple of days to decide.. Am i making a mistake? -

Get a load of THIS! Impossible! Jeff Berlin's complete bass performance of the tune 'Porky And Beans' from his 2008 album, 'Aneurythms;. I have been at this for days and I can't see it now. It's as good as I can get it for now. This is the bass part and does not include the distorted bass solo. It is very indistinct and, if I am honest, I don't like it when JB does that (or anyone else, for that matter). I like to hear the BEHS! https://bilbosbassbites.co.uk/porky-and-beans-jeff-berlin/

Mine has a low 2 digit S/N and I was told by Status it was 1984. There's an older one (sold) on Reverb with 388 S/n advertised as 1988 by BassBros, whom I think are pretty good store.

NPD - Tonerider Classic P
Jean-Luc Pickguard replied to bassbiscuits's topic in Repairs and Technical
I fitted a Tonerider TRP1 in my Squier mini P Bass a few weeks ago, also making a new loom using mini CTS pots and other quality parts. I thought the stock ceramic pickup sounded okay, but the tonerider made a much bigger improvement to the sound than I thought would be possible. -
Great to hear Andy, I’ve said to hell with it and thrown caution to the wind. I’ve got one being built as we speak 😊

Erm, Status Graphite and Steinberger... I'm not sure what date mine is.

I like the look of them; a headless 5-string could be a goer for me. I'm not sure about locking jacks - I thought they'd been and had their day in the 80s.

Slowly and difficult! You have top play the stick through an amp; it doesn't really work not plugged in. (But plugged in it sounds really impressive.) I'm finding the fattest bass string gets in the way of the next one, which is a hindrance. I have done various bits of tapping on the bass, so I'm either really impressive doing those things I have muscle memory for or really useless searching around for notes. I play guitar, but fretting notes with my right hand and playing scales seems to go against the direction my fingers want to go. All-in-all, it's interesting...
