Totally agree with everything above, some very good points made, but here's the kicker, or it was for me anyway. The hours. In the round, the entertainment game is predominantly a night time/awkward time business. You have got to be prepared to want to work all hours and that includes studio time too. The phone can ring at any time and you must never say no. It's a tough business and after 15 years for me personally I'd had enough. Also, a lot of it is personality driven, ie.. you have got to be the person other people love to be around and likewise, do you love being around other people, collaborating, sharing etc etc? Its a funny game.

Man this is a miserable reply to a lighthearted topic. Ive played in originals bands and covers bands (and jazz, which is sort of half way between the two) and experienced a lot of this. Worst experience I had was an Alsatian dog nudging - and breaking - a moving desk which resulted in the gig being cancelled.
-
Enough with the flucking metric/imperial debate! This is "How was your gig last night?" FFS! It's bad enough when people start using it as "Basschatters upcoming gigs" but I've come to peace with that. But this irrelevant bickering can GTF - it's making the relevant stuff disappear with undue haste. Take it to bloody Off Topic where it belongs!

As new still sealed in packs, 3 sets available £12.90 per set including postage. I have been trying various brands of strings on a number of basses, whilst these are very nice I'm going to Dunlop's for my fretted Warwick. To my ears these seem similar to Rotosounds, maybe not quite as 'zingy' initially.

A brief experience at the NW Bass Bash has persuaded me that it would be fun to pick up a fretless to muck about on, so I’m thinking of picking up a cheapish one and there’s a possible candidate in my local music shop. Apart from the things you’d check before buying a secondhand fretted bass, is there anything specific I should look out for? I’m pretty sure this one has been defretted, so are there particular signs of a good or bad defret job?

I have no idea but I always heard the mk2 didn’t have the baked in bass boost of the MK1 I categorically can not get the V to sound identical to the mk1, they’re close, similar ballpark, definitely based on the same topology but can’t get them identical. That said as long as I don’t turn the mk1 on the V is great, just the mk1 is easier to get the sound I love out of it. Got a few more low gain drives to work through anyway. They’ll probably all stay as it’s all far more fun than octaves, filters and other wacky stuff.

Overwater use his pre-amps a lot. Give them a shout?

Yeah, and there's always the old trick of marking a lower price on the postage form. The problem there is of course that if the package is lost or destroyed, the postal service will only cover what was on the form 🫠 Then again, I don't know if most shipping companies cover much by default without extra insurance. I know the Norwegian postal service only covers up to NOK 10k (about £700)
