War Pigs always gets our audience singing along too, especially at the end.

Well, if the zombie apocolypse hit tomorrow and I needed to defend myself with a bass, a Steinberger L2 or XL2 would be my weapon of choice. BTW, I had a XL25 for a year or so but couldn't get on with the ergonomics.

I’ve got one of those Albridge bridges going begging if you need one. I’ll get around to listing it here at some point.

What's the going rate for Stingrays nowadays?
albertoss replied to Supernaut's topic in General Discussion
I’d say that’s more instagram dealers artificially driving up used prices, some of the ones I’ve seen are described us being in much better condition than they actually are also. -

I agree with Skybone. If you were to place a wanted advertisement in the Marketplace on Basschat I think you’d get something suitable. -
BC Thread Update – I’ve Joined the Hard Wax Oil Cult 🧴🔥 Right then… after lovingly oil sanding this thing up to 2500 grit like some sort of wood-obsessed monk, I’ve now slapped on the first coat of Osmo Polyx. And honestly… I may never use clearcoat again. The grain has absolutely gone feral. Those dark streaks? Now look like they’ve got secrets. The lighter areas? Full-on 3D shimmer. Move it in the light and it does that “oh hello” thing. The roundover has come alive as well — warm, glowy, and just enough sheen without looking like it’s been dipped in toffee. It’s got that “touch me” finish without actually feeling sticky. Which is ideal, because I will keep touching it. Application notes for fellow wax dabblers: Super thin coat Worked in properly Wiped back like I meant it No gloopy corners No panic sanding No new swear words invented (a refreshing change) This was always meant to be a “let the wood talk” build rather than entombing it in plastic, and it’s paid off. It looks like a bass that drinks espresso and judges your slap technique. Plan now: • Leave it alone • Stop poking it • Pretend I have self-control Second thin coat to follow once it’s cured properly. Honestly… if this goes wrong from here, it’ll be because I couldn’t resist “just one little buff.” MGCS – Made to Play, Built to Last (and occasionally stroked admiringly under workshop lighting).

Jonesy started following Memorising song structures
-
If I have odd structures to figure out, I usually go by one of the below..... - I write out structures for the songs (nothing as technical as charts) and they live in a doc on the band shared drive. - Sync a change to a line in the vocals and use that as a trigger. That's all well and good unless the change is in an instrumental part of a song. - Sometimes just repetition is key and sometimes the charts go out the window, to be replaced by nods when playing. Easy in a 3 piece band, harder in a 5 piece! - If all else fails then we rely on our drummer to play some sort of fill into a change. It's their job to count and it's about all they can do, so may as well put them to use.

Ian McFly started following Warmoth/Fender Precision Bass
-
Hi all, I got this Pbass assembled last year by my local luthier. It’s got the following specs: -Warmoth Alder body, Inca Silver finish -Fender American Performer Maple neck with Maple fretboard -Fender lightweight tuners -Parchment pickguard -EMG GZR pickup with passive EMG solderless electronics -Hipshot B-style bridge It is a fantastic bass, that sounds amazing and the neck is extremely comfortable…. Very well balanced. The Warmoth body is really well built, as you’d expect from the brand. A couple of dings that show on the photos attached. The Fender neck is a really good one with perfect frets. All in all a fantastic Pbass. It comes with a Fender gig bag. I’m happy to ship it across the UK for £30. Or collection in Edinburgh/Central Belt. any questions let me know! cheers
-
Not quite to steal your thunder, but a Gemini thunderbucker pickup to start with and then I spoke to Mojo about something like this for the bridge. Or a humbucker hidden in a P90 style housing.

Well, after years of enjoying writing music, I decided I wanted to be an artist that actually released something. I was keen for it to be all my own work even though I'm sure it could have been better with some outside help as I gradually learned how to mix and master. Being a child of the 80s, it tries to reflect the sounds of my formative years so may appeal to those of a similar age! It's really nice to have it completed and the second one will be much easier to produce. I'm happy that the world can listen even though it will probably only reach the ears of half a dozen people! Hope you enjoy it. https://thesilentedge.bandcamp.com/album/i-am-who-i-always-was

Well, thats not surprising, the crowd spend 40 years yelling freebird to every band that plays and then someone actually plays it!
-
I know exactly what you mean, it's got a that old Shaftsbury look, or something else on the cheap side. That's why I was nervous about the order, because with the shipping and tax it just slipped the wrong side of four figures. But nothing ventured, nothing gained, and it paid off. In the flesh you can see it's a really well built and finished off bass, one of the best quality basses I've owned. I genuinely think if it was a Rickenbacker it would be £3-4k and not as good quality. I know it hasn't got a 'brand' name attached to it but I don't care, or maybes I don't know. It's designed by Dennis Fano of Fano Guitars (which seem to attract big price tags) but I don't know who he is. I'd not hesitate in buying another Rivolta if this is their standard.

This looks like someone has removed the heel for some reason...very weird....

The estimate is 10-20k, i could see someone going to about 10 but you’d have to be a really serious fan to go to the 20k mark for this , A comparison for me would be if one of my all time idols Aston Barrett’s iconic 72 jazz came up for sale , would I spend 20k on it ?, I probably would -
Played the Sterling Castle in Bridlington on Saturday. A good gig overall with our new drummer- second gig and hes match fit! the sound guy James was superb, great not to lug any pa in to the venue as RCF stuff already set up. IEMs working great. Such a small stage but its amazing how much room you have with no bass amp taking up the space!

It definitely is a lovely sound, it just works so well in this bass.

Guitar Shows. Are they a good place to buy a Bass?
Skybone replied to Useless Eustace's topic in General Discussion
These things tend to be more geared (sic) towards the guitar collector types than towards someone after something cheap & cheerful. There may be some deals to be had, but for something a bit "road worn" / "player grade", IMO, you're best off scouring the For Sale ads here, Gumtree & FB Marketplace (locally to you). Guitar shows are a nice way to spend a few hours, nerding out at what's on offer (whist baulking at the prices).
