I had read the original thread by Maddude. Hadn't heard of him or this Jimmy character before (mostly lurk the classifields, gear porn, basses and fx), but I genuinely felt for Jimmy's family and friends (I myself was bullied a lot when I was a younger teen and I've seen how someone's death, especially suicide, impacts all those around them). Even was on the verge of donating a few quid as well. Yeah, I feel like a bit of a mug, and/or tool now I am convinced that karma will intervene at some point in Maddude's life because of this.

Kudos to the mods! As others have said, this whole situation was dealt with in a mature and professional manner, and it is certainly a comfort knowing that you guys are keeping an eye on the proceedings of this forum

Playing Devils advocate here, all I am seeing is maddude16 not giving Hamster satifactory answers or replies.

Can I please ask that if this is a scam, then can one of the mods can explicitly state/post 'this is a scam'. The hate and vitriol on this thread is not going to acheive anything positive.

It is a blatant attempt at fraud IMO but I do feel for him as he must have something seriously wrong with him.

whatever the final outcome the last thing anybody wants is for this misguided 'maddude' (or whatever his other names are) to continue his life doing this and lets hope the good detective work has shown him that he cannot get away with this sort of sh*t and the error of his ways. Name calling is for the playground guys and only makes matters worse . He needs some help .

My 2p's worth to those who did donate or were about to. If this (as appears to be the consensus) is a scam, you should under no circumstance feel like mug's or the likes. The fact you were prepared to take somebody's word for, what sounded a terribly tragic story, says a lot about your good and generous natures and I for one commend you.

IIR, the mods tracked the IP address and came to the conclusion it was one and the same person. Hence BIG scam.

It's strange what some people do, and we will never know whetehr it was greed or some form of desparation that caused him to do this. Whatever the reason, a rip off merchant is one of the worse forms of life in my book - especially those that play of the decency of others.

If there is a positive side to all this ,imo it's that there's been some great points made about dyslexia etc.
Maybe a whip round for a relevant charity would end it all (not a pun!) nicely while everyones attention is on this.

If I wasn't so skint myself I would have considered donating after reading the original post having been through similar as a kid. To try & scam money out of people with something as low as this is just plain sick.

Still in disbelief about this series of events. Firstly, the very concept that someone would orchestrate a scam based around that kind of subject matter. Secondly, that it was sussed out.

That's some sterling detective work by the mod team. And yet, I'm still left sort of hoping the inconsistencies were down to human error or something, but there's no arguing with IP addresses I guess...

Only found out about the whole story from this thread but wow.
How low can a man sink?

Everytime unusual stories turn up on forums they are questioned and usually proved to be true (in my experience - speaking of the Arthur "Butch" Porter story from Talkbass that I'm sure a few people will have heard about!) but to find one like this that really was a scam, unbelievable. How can he sleep at night?

Another thing i forgot to say in my last post...
The mods have established both accounts belong to maddude, so did he set up the second one purely with the intention of starting a scam? That was the main thing that hit me when thinking about this thread. People say he even did business with other BC'ers on the second account, was the whole thing just biding his time until he could pull a trick?
Clearly there's no way to prove that without an explanation from the man himself, but what other reasons could there be? It really confuses me to think about it that way. Just...why?
Curious if anyone else has theories on the matter.
