I avoid any 'influencer' because I'm not interested in their content. Bite me. 2 2 Quote

I’m not sure that anything’s changed in that respect. Its always gone on. Sponsorship, not necessarily signature instruments, that's a more recent phenomena with mass production making it simple to do a run of 1000 instruments all exactly the same. Certainly bands sponsored by strings companies, some BassChatters have got free strings for tours etc. I imagine Paul McCartney got given a fair few basses. Quote

Crusoe Posted December 3 Posted December 3 5 hours ago, Dan Dare said: Exactly. It had to happen that someone would play the "Jaco" card and sure enough... Who cares? Jaco may have been a great player, but he was also known to be, erm, difficult. You wouldn't want him in your band. He'd turn everything into the Jaco show, arrive for gigs off his face and generally be a PITA. It got him killed in the end (you have to be pretty deluded about yourself to think picking a fight with a doorman is a good idea). People like that are best admired from afar. I'm one of those who finds Danny K amusing. I wouldn't pay money for anything he's played and I wouldn't claim he's the greatest thing since sliced bread, but I like some of what he does. He seems a decent sort. Who cares that he doesn't have "ground-breaking talent"? Few do. Is this a new variation on Godwin's law? 😄 2 1 Quote

I like his irreverent attitude and Yorkshire sense of humour. How he got voted Bass Player Of The Year is beyond me but I'm old fashioned and think that such awards are for people who make records and do gigs ect. Good for Danny, anyway. He was actually voted Behs Player of the Year, and was the only nominee. 2 Quote
SteveXFR Posted December 4 Posted December 4 He can play slap but chooses not to and for that reason alone, he's alright. 10 Quote

Meanwhile young bassists who can play (and unknown to most of us) are busy with real world gigs. Have you been vaccinated with seriousness? Quote
Mokl Posted December 4 Posted December 4 What do I think of him? Not sure tbh; expect he's a decent bloke but haven't watched any of his vids for long enough to comment on his playing. I've heard of him, and we're all discussing him which I guess means he's winning in this day and age. 2 Quote

Cato Posted December 6 Posted December 6 He just turned up on my Instagram feed doing this. Colour me impressed. 4 Quote
TimR Posted Thursday at 12:21 Posted Thursday at 12:21 He's obviously not a serious Bass Player, even SD has posted on this forum. Well, in two threads anyway. 🤣 Quote
Dad3353 Posted Thursday at 12:34 Posted Thursday at 12:34 One day I will understand, but that day is not today. Quote
Gray C Posted Friday at 16:11 Posted Friday at 16:11 Watched a few of his shorts when they’ve popped up and often find them funny, mentions of the ‘Dipstick lick’ in particular 😂 Quote
bubinga5 Posted 6 hours ago Posted 6 hours ago I think he's great. And he can play when he shows you. But he's part of a bigger picture of the way Bass playing with Instagram YouTube AI and music in general is traveling.. and I don't like it.. This ain't a 90's Freddie Washington' groove lessons DVD anymore.. Quote

There’s an insane amount of content and entertainment out there which is immediately accessible thanks to the internet. The overwhelming majority has no interest for me either, if I don’t like stuff I just move on, there’s plenty for everyone. Quote

When I see something 'recommended' by others, I'm sometimes inquisitive enough to have a look, and sometimes I come across some Good Stuff. It still amazes me, however, just how much is Out There that, if one was to put it into a novel or TV story line, would be thought of as too improbable, or too tacky, or just plain ol' nonsense, to be credible. A sign, amongst many, of fast-approaching old age, senility and decrepitude, no doubt; maybe I'm just unlucky in the choices I make when deciding to look at New (to me...) Stuff. No problem, the World spins on. T'is, however, a funny ol' World. Peace. Quote
