Mickyk Posted Monday at 19:56 Posted Monday at 19:56 Spot the deliberate mistake around the 1:10 minute mark. 😂🤣😂. Quote
Lozz196 Posted Monday at 20:34 Posted Monday at 20:34 Happened to me when the strap button came out on my Thunderbird, it didn’t need that much of an excuse to dive to the floor anyway, but this totally floored it. Fortunately it happened on the last note of the last song in the encore so not too much of a problem. 1 Quote
Al Nico Posted Monday at 20:46 Posted Monday at 20:46 I put up with it for a long time in the 80's. Then one day, on the counter of a music shop in Leeds city centre, there was a sweet jar with hand written label "strap locks". It was full of these curious looking things. Have been using the same pair ever since. I recently took them apart and cleaned them for the first time as they were getting stiff. They must be 40 years old. How wonderful. 6 Quote

Me too - brilliant things. I’ve had my Dunlop ones for eons now and have never let me down once. ( Also used to use Grolsch bottle top washers which were also reliable, albeit a bit awkward to get on and off.) 1 Quote
chris_b Posted Monday at 21:26 Posted Monday at 21:26 I bought my first set of Dunlop strap locks in the late 80's. I'm still using the same set on my main bass. 2 Quote
Jean-Luc Pickguard Posted Monday at 21:59 Posted Monday at 21:59 I swear by Grolsch-type rubber washers and the various versions made in other colours by Fender, Ernie Ball etc. 2 Quote
tauzero Posted Monday at 23:41 Posted Monday at 23:41 Yes - when playing in my bedroom, the strap came off my Les Paul copy guitar and it hit the kickstart of a bike engine that was also in my bedroom, putting a big dent in it. Then in 1988 I bought a Warwick with Schaller straplocks, and every instrument that can be fitted with them since then has been. At last night's open mic, the strap came off the guitar of the guy who was doing house band duty with me for the final number. It was a straplock failure, a Fender one that had come unscrewed from the strap. Fortunately he had hold of it and was able to sit on his amp to finish the song. 1 Quote

police squad Posted yesterday at 05:52 Posted yesterday at 05:52 I have dunlop strap locks on my Slash Les Paul. I was bending over at a gig and the top one let go. Les Paul face down on the deck Luckily no damage but I don't trust them anymore. I don't know why it failed Mainly used schaller ones most of my gigging life 1 Quote

Raised his arms and the crowd went “YAAAAAAAY!” guitar falls to the floor and they all go “OOOOOHHHHH!” - a real Wayne’s World moment. 1 Quote

AMV001 Posted yesterday at 09:36 Posted yesterday at 09:36 (edited) Its interesting that Dunlop straplocks have been mentioned in relation to this. I do some work with a guitarist who has Dunlop straplocks on all his guitars and the only ones that have failed (repeatedly) have been fitted to Les Pauls. The top horn position. We have never been able to figure out why. They click into place OK and seem tight (we can't pull them out of the button) but once he's stood in playing position it only takes a few minutes for it to fail. Tried a couple of sets with the same result. He's got quite heavy leather straps so maybe the weight has something to do with it. Having said that he's got the same type straps and Dunlop straplocks on his V and Explorer and they are secure with no problems. Its very odd. Edited yesterday at 09:47 by AMV001 Wrong quote Quote

chris_b Posted yesterday at 09:48 Posted yesterday at 09:48 I've fitted Dunlop Strap Locks to every bass since the mid 80's and have never had a problem with any of them. 1 Quote
knirirr Posted yesterday at 09:56 Posted yesterday at 09:56 Never had a strap fail (yet) though I did once enjoy something like this on stage at a jam: Quote

It's happened more than once to me but I've always caught it in time, except the one time I didn't (luckily it didn't even go out of tune) Quote

Grahambythesea Posted yesterday at 14:00 Posted yesterday at 14:00 Happened to me on the Fender Jazz 5 string I had and it was fitted with Shaller strap locks! The strap lock nut came unscrewed, bass hit the ground take a chunk of paint off and also knocked the lap top flying I was reading from (it wasn’t my regular band). 1 Quote

Dood Posted 8 hours ago Posted 8 hours ago Ok, I'll admit to making a rookie error. It may have even been an album launch show, I can't remember as it was 25 years ago this happened. I had my wide strap, I had my well known brand strap locks and everything else meticulously installed and set up. Our band were a well oiled machine and were able to overcome most things going wrong in a show, as was the case this time. The screws that used to come with strap locks were woefully short (I am sure you can guess what came next...) So, I sought out a couple of long screws that had heads small enough to fit in to the strap buttons so that the straplock mechanism still worked correctly. Come the night of the gig, our drummer counted off the first song and with an enthusiastic leap in to the first note, the bass flew away from me with the same energy. I'd.... used.... brass.... screws 🤦♀️🙈🤦🏻🤦🏻♂️🤦♀️ I played the rest of the gig on a bar stool that as if by magic appeared next to me mid song! 1 1 Quote

You know what, that is a really good question and, on typing the post, I'd completely missed that very obvious point! What the hell was I thinking? Did I really only bring one? Which is very odd as I had two matching Tobias 6ers and a gorgeous Status fretless 6er for that band too. The screws breaking happened, but where was my spare? 🤯 #AgeRelatedMemoryLoss lol... 2 1 Quote
