Horslips to give them their correct spelling were an Irish folk/rock/trad band in the 60s. Check out trax like 'Furniture' and 'Dearg Doom'.Great band.

I'm aware. I was there at the time. I'm older than my avatar makes me seem ...

They were given the whole weekend, so clearly they were still a very big draw.

Yes totally.. that's surprising, you'd have thought they'd be thought of as very "old hat" by then, and it was kind of a bit before "retro" became a thing.

Agreed. I've never seen them but my sister did in Brum many years ago and raved about them. 'The Book of Invasions' is a cracking album

They're no longer touring having stopped in 2022.

Bill Haley & the Comets is a bit of an odd one too I'd have thought, for the time....

I seem to remember a bit of a teddy boy /rock n roll revival in the early mid 70’s.

Bands like Sha Na Na in the USA and Showaddywaddy over here sparked a lot of

interest in the 50’s, which were soon helped by Happy Days, Grease etc.

The London Rock n Roll Show at Wembley Stadium in 1972 attracted a massive

audience, and featured Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Little Richard and Bo Diddley

as well as Bill Haley & His Comets, all of whom were riding a new wave of popularity.

( I wanted to go, but as I was only 14 my parents wouldn’t allow it! )

Got their name from a band meeting trying to determine a band name when they were all extremely well-oiled, and one tried to suggest "The four horsemen of the apocalypse" but it came out as "The four poxmen of the horslips".

And supported Thin Lizzy on at least one major tour IIRC
