Owno Posted January 16, 2022 Posted January 16, 2022 Hatfield and The North - The Rotters Club. Richard Sinclair’s tone is absolutely extraordinary and he sings beautiful while playing as well. Such a great band from the Canterbury scene. Quote

bubinga5 Posted May 4 Posted May 4 Any bass player from Ozric Tentacles. Or Marcus's bass playing on any of Luther's records. His bass playing on this is the reason he is regarded so highly imo. It's just a masterclass in for the record understated slap. 1 Quote
Doc rock Posted May 5 Posted May 5 Joe Jackson's Look Sharpe! Because I really like Graham Maby playing. Pure pop goodness. 1 1 Quote
JoeEvans Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) In my early teens I heard a cassette copy of 'Green Bullfrog' and the bass playing on that was probably the single thing that most drove me to start playing the bass. 'Walk a mile in my shoes' in particular is just a pure exuberant blast. I only much later found out that it was Chas Hodges of Chas'n'Dave, which was unexpected to say the least. I haven't listened to it in years though, tastes move on... Edited May 5 by JoeEvans Quote

prowla Posted May 5 Posted May 5 (edited) You don't need to do the flash stuff to be brilliant. A few weeks ago I went to a Hi-Fi show where one of the rooms was playing this and it sounded great; I looked around and Mike Lindup had wandered into the room and sat down behind me! HeadlessBassist Posted yesterday at 06:31 Posted yesterday at 06:31 I've always looked to John 'Rhino' Edwards from Quo for excellent examples of how to build a bass line and vary your fills, all while keeping the fills very musical, so I'd go for "Ain't Complaining" by Status Quo and also maybe his latest solo album, "Just Sayin' ". I also find myself listening to simpler stuff these days - The Blues Alive album by Gary Moore has some great playing from Andy Pyle, who previously played for Blodwyn Pig, Alvin Lee, The Kinks, and Wishbone Ash. Well, I just can't listen to Status Quo, so they're out. I bought a bass amp off Martin Turner's son-in-law on Wednesday. 1 Quote
