What bass is being played in this video?

Recommended Posts

It looks a bit like a Fender Aerodyne, with the slab body and binding, but this video is from 1984, and the Aerodyne didn't come out until 2003. That also doesn't look like a Fender logo on the headstock.

The bass player's name is Graham McGregor.

Hmm well if he wears it any higher it'll be up his nose! Can't tell I'm afraid despite the headstock being in shot a lot. I can't read it but perhaps a fellow BC'er will recognise the shape.

P.S. The drummer mimed standing-up! What's all that about!?

Could be a Washburn maybe?

That looks like a promising lead. I've done a little snouting around and while I can't find an exact match, I can certainly see some of their 1980s basses that have very similar features.

Given that I think the guitarist is using a double cut Washburn (I seem to remember wanting one of those back in the day), I think the bass might be a Washburn too.

Not a Washburn - there wasn't a P styled model in the range in 1984. Closest thing would have been one of the Force models & they're very distinctive & nothing really like this.

Don't know what the bass is but I've seen a few bound body/no scratchplate P types from that era - pretty sure Fernandes did something like that. Failing that it could be some sort of custom job. Apropos of nothing, can't read the logo but the placement looks really odd...

Yep, it at may well be easier to pay at that height but it just looks pony.

I remember that bass so didn’t even have to look at the video.

It’s a Schecter from back in the day when they were a small US based custom shop.

Cant find a  photo of a slab bodied bound bass but they did guitars in the same style in that period.
