Daz39
He's a total maverick, cool dude and ace player. I used to follow his blogs last decade when he would describe his portable espresso machine he designed for his motorbike, and his endless travels on tours. Dude's been around so long he played in a school band for JFK in err '62? I do want to know what Bass he plays and how for his tracks on the Union album for Yes. Sounds like a metal fretboard fretless, it's amazing. Let's not even start on his stick playing (GAS!)
dmccombe7
Prefer his Gabriel work too. Def an inspiration on bass. His standard 4 string work is amazing let alone the stick bass playing. Not so keen on the finger stick thing tho. I find it a bit messy. Dave
wateroftyne
I love his more trad stuff - '50 Ways to Leave Your Lover' is a great line.
Kevin Dean
A huge influence on me , but I wasn't impressed with his first solo album .

John Giblin if so. (TLev is only on I Don't Remember on PG3). Lovely stuff either way!
toneknob
On top of Crim and PG, with whom I've seen Tony Levin many times there's a load more outside stuff he's done. The BLS albums are great. This always comes with me when I'm testing a new hifi amp or speakers. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PfbdBZO9td0
toneknob
And this from BLUE Nights (with Bruford, Chris Botti, David Torn) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A0C7nZ02UiA
lowdown
Always liked Mr Levin.Top, top player, I especially liked his early New York session days. I know this will go down like a lead Balloon on this here Basschat, but his Jazz playing with the Buddy Rich Big Band was superb. He could certainly swing. On the second and third videos, he played some classy classic, 70's Funk (Although BR is crawling over it a bit.) toneknob
Another relative obscurity, this from the late 80s [s]Yes[/s] ABWH album. Lovely video. You'll find a live version but that's Jeff Berlin. ezbass
I thoroughly recommend TL's book, Beyond The Bass Clef, it's full of anecdotes and tips, not all music related.
KevB
Cheers for the Family Snapshot info folks, as he's on the 'Plays Live' album I just assumed it was him on the studio track too. So to redress this let's hear him... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sHviPKJDEs4 Edited January 23, 2017 by KevB
gapiro
Funny this came up as I was enjoying some PG live stuff last night. I noticed the funk fingers are available again after decades without.
Leen2112
Simply THE coolest chap about, When i saw him with Peter Gabriel 'In the round' he would walk against the turning stage swinging his bass side to side and his long black coat trailing behind him....Incredible, and he's quite good on a bass too!
