Do people really think that this is what holidays are all about… At least Los Kareokoes is making a buck on top of singing his way for tips while driving the Uber to Albufeira …..and back. ah well , as Mr Green once sang edit to add sat on the room balcony now , and am regaled by the sound of the wind and rain (slightly) drowning the cheesy rock being belted out from the tower block ballroom next door. algarve R us I’m heading next door tomorrow night , sounds like a party from here , they may be playing to the bar staff for all I know , but it will be at least the bar staff and me tomorrow 😂. cetera Posted November 4 Posted November 4 A quirky gig last night.... My Wife & I went and saw the fantastic 'El Pony Pisador'. Impossible to describe but their wiki gets pretty close: "El Pony Pisador is a musical group from Barcelona that mixes various styles of folk and traditional music from around the world, including Celtic music, sea songs, bluegrass, tarantella and yodel." Great fun! We discovered them at Cropredy Festival in the Summer and loved them. Last night was in a tiny village hall near Chichester... 1 Quote
Peloquin Posted November 5 Posted November 5 I went to see Suzanne Vega on Saturday then Macc Lads on Sunday. Both great gigs. 2 Quote
TeresaFR Posted November 6 Posted November 6 Fields of the Nephilim in Manchester on the 26th (October, that is). Met up with my own band's singer whilst there, when the mosh pit started up, she went towards it, and I backed away. I am not into that kind of thing. Quote
nekomatic Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Emma-Jean Thackray at Band on the Wall last night. Absurdly enjoyable. Matt Gedrych doing crucial stuff to the low end. Quote
SteveXFR Posted November 7 Posted November 7 Nuns Of The Tundra in Frome tonight. Absolutely brilliant performance, solid desert metal riffs and a mountain of groove. I booked tickets as soon as it was announced and then my daughters band Butane Skies were booked to support and they went down really well. 1 Quote
NancyJohnson Posted November 8 Posted November 8 (edited) Public Service Broadcasting (with The London Contemporary Orchestra) at The Barbican. 1st November, evening show. 3rd row. Just splendid. The current tour is supporting their Last Flight album, with a few older crowd pleasers side loaded in. I've seen this band evolve from a two piece to a five (which expanded at various times when a three-piece horn section came out), and now again - albeit for a limited time - with the orchestra. I'd love to sit down with J Willgoose Esg (the chap in the courdroy and bowtie) and try to understand how his stage set-up actually works. Edited November 8 by NancyJohnson 2 Quote
rwillett Posted November 8 Posted November 8 We went to the Wheatsheaf in Ingleton, a little bit smaller than the Barbican. Two Hoots were playing with @vsmith1 doing an excellent job on his rather nice Marcus Miller bass. A lot of fun with 60's, 70's and 80's covers. The only table available was right next to the ProSonus PA speaker. I can assure people that the PA does an excellent job and is very, very loud. Thankfully we brought ear plugs which made it all rather bearable. They played from 20:30 to nearly 23:00 with a short break. A good time was had by one and all. Well worth the free gig Rob Quote
Lozz196 Posted Thursday at 23:58 Posted Thursday at 23:58 Just got in from seeing Volbeat (with Bush as support) at Wembley Arena. My first time seeing them and they were really good, very nice to see a lead singer that sounds just as good live as on the recorded material. Quote
TrevorR Posted Friday at 08:24 Posted Friday at 08:24 (edited) I originally popped this in the wrong thread so… Big Horizon were fantastic at Pizza Express Live - Holborn in London last night. A lovely evening of Yacht Rock, 70s West Coast pop tinged music. These guys are absolutely top of their game (which explains why the spend most of their time backing megastars on tour - ELO, Take That and many more). Great set, great playing and what a fabulous voice Iain Hornal has! They did a couple of Jeff Lynne’s tunes (an obscure ELO one - Four Little Diamonds, and Handle With Care by The Traveling Willburys). As Jeff Lynne’s backing band for the last 10 years, they paid tribute to him and the unfortunate way the tour ended with him being too unwell to continue to his big Hyde Park retirement gig. Wonderful evening! Lee Pomeroy was a highlight, of course but watching him mangles my brain because all the strings and fingers are in the wrong place. Fab to see Gary PB and Costas there too! Saw them at one of the Last Flight album launch gigs last year and at the Proms doing their concept piece about the history of the BBC and (obvs) Public Service Broadcasting. Their stage set-up is stunning and, I guess why one of the five members, Mr B, just focuses onstage on the AV elements of the show. Quote

It transpired that the singer in my old project knew J Willgoose's father and offered his son some sage advice when he was starting out. I popped Willgoose a message and he was kind enough to respond and confirm: ...don't get too moist here, but there was also a bunch of other stuff on the thread discussing the possibility of exploring Atmos/5.1 mixes of the albums. Cato Posted Friday at 10:13 Posted Friday at 10:13 (edited) Went to see the Horne Section last night at Warwick Arts. I'm not familiar with Alex Horne's comedy outside of Taskmaster so I wasn't sure what to expect but it certainly wasn't this. The show is basically an eclectic mix of bad puns, comedy songs and surrealism, at various points I was a bit baffled as to what was going on but on the whole it was an entertaining evening, at times very funny and never boring, the 2 hours (with interval) flew past. The musicianship on show was of a very high standard, the bass player was outstanding and sounded really good. 90% sure he was using a Wilcock, a Mullarkey in something like Aztec Gold (though might have been natural with the stage lights giving it a glow) it definitely looked like one only it didn't look short scale, though that may have been relative to the size of the guy playing it, difficult to tell from where we were sitting. 51m0n Posted Friday at 10:24 Posted Friday at 10:24 Wet Leg at the Royal Albert Hall Cracking gig, loads of fun, slightly marred by the return journey taking an extra two and a half hours due to unscheduled emergency engineering works on the mainline to Brighton. Still, worth it 😀 Quote
EdwardMarlowe Posted Friday at 15:19 Posted Friday at 15:19 Last actual gig was the Saw Doctors at Hammersmith Apollo (or whatever corporate nonsense name it now has. Eventim?), with original bass player Pearse Doherty now back in the band as of this last couple of years. Last event with a bass player was last night at the Walthamstow Rock and Roll Book Club's event at the Red Lion Hotel (in, er.... Leytonstone). Some in these parts might have heard of this as it was the venue for an early Led Zeppelin gig, among other big names in that world. Last night's session was a Q&A with Mickey Bradley, bass player of the Undertones. Lots of fun, he's a funny guy. Mickey's the one on the right. Ignore the ninny on the left. (That would be me. I am the ninny.) 1 Quote
lurksalot Posted 2 hours ago Posted 2 hours ago Friday was Ferocious dog at the live rooms Chester , great energy and a monster mosh pit , haven’t seen the whole crowd moving like that in a while ! suppported by Voodoo radio , a father and daughter duo who were very entertaining good night all round. last night was the Black charade and Fell out boy. Both put on a great show , more dancing , no moshing and a noticeably smaller crowd ,the quantity of people was similar but I could see the stage easily without the hassle of peering between all the tall ones 😁 Quote

I must have done , but that was a crazy night all round, wind and rain, bus , train , random strangers being related to business contacts, and some very odd type dudes who must have snorted a weeks entire pharmaceutical output . Voodoo radio then, must have done , hardcore fan me 😁 Quote
