A quirky gig last night.... My Wife & I went and saw the fantastic 'El Pony Pisador'. Impossible to describe but their wiki gets pretty close:

 

"El Pony Pisador is a musical group from Barcelona that mixes various styles of folk and traditional music from around the world, including Celtic music, sea songs, bluegrass, tarantella and yodel."

 

Great fun! We discovered them at Cropredy Festival in the Summer and loved them. Last night was in a tiny village hall near Chichester...

Nuns Of The Tundra in Frome tonight. Absolutely brilliant performance, solid desert metal riffs and a mountain of groove.

I booked tickets as soon as it was announced and then my daughters band Butane Skies were booked to support and they went down really well.

Public Service Broadcasting (with The London Contemporary Orchestra) at The Barbican.  1st November, evening show.  3rd row.  Just splendid.

 

The current tour is supporting their Last Flight album, with a few older crowd pleasers side loaded in.

 

I've seen this band evolve from a two piece to a five (which expanded at various times when a three-piece horn section came out), and now again - albeit for a limited time - with the orchestra.  I'd love to sit down with J Willgoose Esg (the chap in the courdroy and bowtie) and try to understand how his stage set-up actually works.

We went to the Wheatsheaf in Ingleton, a little bit smaller than the Barbican. Two Hoots were playing with @vsmith1 doing an excellent job on his rather nice Marcus Miller bass. 

 

A lot of fun with 60's, 70's and 80's covers. The only table available was right next to the ProSonus PA speaker. I can assure people that the PA does an excellent job and is very, very loud. Thankfully we brought ear plugs which made it all rather bearable. 

 

They played from 20:30 to nearly 23:00 with a short break. 

 

A good time was had by one and all. Well worth the free gig

Just got in from seeing Volbeat (with Bush as support) at Wembley Arena. My first time seeing them and they were really good, very nice to see a lead singer that sounds just as good live as on the recorded material.

I originally popped this in the wrong thread so…

 

Big Horizon were fantastic at Pizza Express Live - Holborn in London last night. A lovely evening of Yacht Rock, 70s West Coast pop tinged music. These guys are absolutely top of their game (which explains why the spend most of their time backing megastars on tour - ELO, Take That and many more). Great set, great playing and what a fabulous voice Iain Hornal has! They did a couple of Jeff Lynne’s tunes (an obscure ELO one - Four Little Diamonds, and Handle With Care by The Traveling Willburys). As Jeff Lynne’s backing band for the last 10 years, they paid tribute to him and the unfortunate way the tour ended with him being too unwell to continue to his big Hyde Park retirement gig. Wonderful evening!

 

Lee Pomeroy was a highlight, of course but watching him mangles my brain because all the strings and fingers are in the wrong place. Fab to see Gary PB and Costas there too!

I love this band. They are so, so good. Saw them at one of the Last Flight album launch gigs last year and at the Proms doing their concept piece about the history of the BBC and (obvs) Public Service Broadcasting. Their stage set-up is stunning and, I guess why one of the five members, Mr B, just focuses onstage on the AV elements of the show.

It transpired that the singer in my old project knew J Willgoose's father and offered his son some sage advice when he was starting out.  I popped Willgoose a message and he was kind enough to respond and confirm:

Went to see the Horne Section last night at Warwick Arts.

 

I'm not familiar with Alex Horne's comedy outside of Taskmaster so I wasn't sure what to expect but it certainly wasn't this.

 

The show is basically an eclectic mix of bad puns, comedy songs and surrealism, at various points I was a bit baffled as to what was going on but on the whole it was an entertaining evening, at times very funny and never boring, the 2 hours (with interval) flew past.

 

The musicianship on show was of a very high standard, the bass player was outstanding and sounded really good.

 

90% sure he was using a Wilcock, a Mullarkey in something like Aztec Gold (though might have been natural with the stage lights giving it a glow) it definitely looked like one only it didn't look short scale, though that may have been relative to the size of the guy playing it, difficult to tell from where we were sitting.
